How ASSISS Helped Banumathe Walk Again

𝗦𝗢𝗖𝗜𝗔𝗟 𝗪𝗘𝗟𝗙𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗜𝗡𝗣𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗠𝗠𝗘 (𝗦𝗪𝗜𝗣)
Meet N. Banumathe, a 69-year-old from Setapak, Kuala Lumpur. Since 2012, she has endured excruciating pain in her left knee, which prompted her to use a walking frame.
Despite years of physiotherapy and seeking medical advice, her pain persisted, making simple tasks like sitting and standing unbearable.
Banumathe, a widow and retired cleaner, lives alone with limited financial support. Thankfully, the Social Welfare Department (JKM) provided some financial aid, and that's when she discovered ASSISS through its Mobile Clinic at the JKM Centre in her neighborhood.
In 2023, she was discovered with knee osteoarthritis after undergoing a medical check-up funded by ASSISS.
She underwent a successful 𝘁𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝗳𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗲𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘆, performed by Dr Chee Eng Keong (Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Assunta Hospital). She was discharged on the 20th of February, 2023.
Banumathe now walks unassisted after just two and a half months after surgery.
In her own words, Banumathe says:
