Not a Leafs fan or much of a fan of Matthews but he hits the nail on the head. The players need to be less robotic and embrace their personality. Nothing worse than hearing pucks in deep, shots to the net, playing our game ad nauseam.

It's a tough reality but it becomes very necessary at a higher level of play. You literally have to stick to basic fundamentals to win the game. Sounds boring, looks boring, but it wins games and the reminders are needed more than you think.

A few of the top draft picks in the past decade have seemed extremely self-conscious to me. Patrick Kane and Tyler Seguin, especially, come to mind.. those two in particular seemed like they would always speak in a faux/imitation macho/deep voice, and their eyes always seemed "glazed over" to me, like as if they were completely caught up in their own atmosphere. Auston Matthews sometimes seemed ALMOST the same as them (the moustache seemed like a teenager hipster-y thing), but he also seemed just slightly more grounded/real than them. This video helps show his humanity a bit more, good video.

Not everyone. I love the Leafs. All of them. Marner is a shuffle dance unicorn, Matthews is a human sized alebrije with pyramid powers, Bunting wants nothing more than to call his mom after his first goal, Sheldon is always nice about everyone...They play the 500 days of Summer song when they score. It´s basically the ONLY non toxic (big) team there is. Maple Syrup is DELICIOUS. I have a lot of passion for this topic, please accept my apologies for the massive rant if need be.
