Great review! I also tried blowing my brains out in my Discovery TD5 . Unfortunately the gun jammed, so I pistol whipped myself unconscious. Woke up 3 days later, hideously disfigured a brain damaged, yet with a strange urge to find another Discovery.

They're everywhere in australia and because they are mostly owned by enthusiasts and obviously rust isn't really a problem here, half of them are still mint and actually don't break down every 2 minutes 😂

I believe that the Toyota at the end of the video is yours? Just had a quick look at it and what a bag of shit that is according to the MOT data! I actually like the style of these videos and I recon you could go along way with this channel... but I think the truth is that everything you own is knackered because of the sort of person you are! I am a discovery owner of 20 years, We’ve looked after it from new and not used it as a farm hack and then starting pissing and moaning when it has rust after being covered in shit for 12 years! If that old land cruiser can make it down to the south west without the exhaust gassing you, offside front body structure failing, near side front body structure failing, off side rear body structure failing, off side front suspension mounting prescribed area corroded failing, or all the brake pipes failing because of corrosion then I’ll show you around my fleet of well kept and trouble free land Rovers! That’s just a small snippet of all the advisories K126 YRM has according to the MOT data! Second thoughts, maybe it will be best for me to come to you...lol Anyway, keep up the good work with taking the piss and I’ll do the same, banter is what makes the world go around in my eyes mate!

Don't let this video put you off. Just don't have one as an alternative to a euro hatchback, expecting the same output. But if, like me, you use your vehicle for occasional trips at a sedentary speed in the knowledge that if something hits you they are going to come off worse, then get one and enjoy. They are "reasonably" easy to service and my td5 will return nearly 40 mpg on a motorway at a steady 55. (Let the foot to the floor merchants get to the next set of roadworks first). Yes they rust with age, don't we all, but if you are daft enough to take it through a ditch just hose the mud off before it gets into the crevices and starts the rot.

There were two variants of the Td5 engine, the cylinder head issue was fixed on the facelifted model by giving stronger retaining studs, they also moved the fuel return pipe. They are gutless in stock form I agree there, remap the Td5, and be amazed at what it can do. I've had my 03 since new. Had the leaky sunroof thing. And the ACE pump did spring a leak last year, I've replaced the pump and ACE still works great. I'm actually really happy with my old girl. But I know a lot of people have had some drastic experiences with the Disco 2's. Its funny, you mention about new gearboxes, I did change my Transfer case internals to have a diff lock on her. So my transfer box... the only original thing is the metal case! But that was my choice, there was nothing wrong with the old internals at all, it just didn't have a diff lock.
@ptr60923 жыл бұрын
The head went on my 15p engine. They are shit. The faults are common and numerous. Don't forget the propshaft which can wreck your transmission, numerous coolant leaking points, body linkages that always fail, rear body rot, electronic fuel pump failure, exhaust manifold weakness, ABS problems, and many many more. Oh and the AC vent is above the auto box electrics so that will be sure to fail in time. I had all of these things in just 3 months of ownership.
@mikeb533 жыл бұрын
@@ptr6092 I was going to say its sad you had a poor experience with your D2, but frankly, to have all that wrong with it, in 3 months... if its true, that's a remarkably extreme case. I appreciate LR are not synonymous with dependability, and do require vigorous maintenance, but 18 years into ownership and so far I have had... a leaky sunroof (Fixed), a duff ACE pump(fixed) and last year, new air compressor and air springs. That's it. As for the chassis, that does need ongoing yearly treatment if you want them to last longer than 10 years.
@ptr60923 жыл бұрын
@@mikeb53It is absolutely true, and I've had a lot of Land Rovers with a similar amount of problems that occur. It's a never-ending list of problems all the time. Yes, parts are widely available and you can skimp and get britpart cheap if you really want to. But decent parts do cost. Perhaps I'm an outlier and I've just had circa 8 bad landies. I've just got into Japanese 4x4's and the biggest thing I've had to do is replace an oxygen sensor. It's night and day really. Btw, have you had the same disco fro 18 years?
@TommyAutos3 жыл бұрын
It's not a remarkably extreme case at all. Living in a rural area many of my peers choose to punish themselves with a Disco 2... the problems are never ending. I had one break down 3 times in 2 weeks once.

@@TommyAutos I've had to experience it to believe it but now I understand what everybody says. Still, I have a defender 110 at the moment. Your video on the landcruiser has made me want one. It seems you have a realistic perspective on these vehicles. Do you have any other recommendations?

LOL LOOOOO This video absolutely finished me off and is the funniest video I have watched on KZbin looooo. That Guy who shot himself had me in stitches lol. I am rolling over in Laughter. You have just saved me a fortune. I wanted one of these for a future trip to Iceland and Faroe Islands, where there are very steep hills and rough terrain. I need something reliable. I am quite handy at taking vehicles apart and know many people who could help me if I was stuck. I was thinking? Is it worth purchasing one of these for a restoration and modification project to make this a better vehicle? The price of the later versions of these are out of my price range. I would modify the electrics, study how this vehicle is put together and see if I can improve it to make it workable. This will include the chassis strengthening and modification. The problem is cost compared to purchasing one that works already. Is it worth it. Thank you for sharing this video and saving me money. Subscribed. LOL LOOOOO You are so funny looooo The guy who shot his brains out with all that yellow looking egg yolk splashed over the windscreen looooooooo You have done me in lol

Comedy gold! You’re not gonna buy a disco 2 nowadays unless you want an older 4x4 that doesn’t look like a giant car and will make your hands dirty. I’ve had two disco td5s in the past 10 years and I’ve had to replace the ACE block and find a new engine after the oil pump bolt worked loose on the motorway. Saying that, I’m still not ready to get anything else. When compared to new trucks it isn’t fast, but its 20+ years old and wasn’t built to be - but its not awful and has never got me in any trouble. As for handling - it’s a big old beast, and the ACE does a fantastic job countering roll and keeping the body upright around corners… it’s actually quite satisfying and my gf (who gets terrible car sickness) much prefers to drive the disco over the car. It’s pretty damn good off road, and can take punishment. Lastly there’s a huge selection of aftermarket parts and enthusiast support networks, meaning that if you like getting your hands dirty, it’s actually not that expensive to run and repair in most cases. Horses for courses…

You may take the piss, but when a 1970s Land Rover Shames a 2000s Japanese Off-roader, go ahead and knock a car which is 50 years old for needing repair but think that a Japanese off roader 30 years younger than it is even rustier, that chassis part was a load of 💩
