For some reason Ineos try to ride like they did when they were winning but now it's to protect a top 10 finish. Until they have a GC contender they need to concentrate on stages. or a minor jersey.

exactly. And at the Tour, they brought a lot of talent - but what was actually their goal? It's not clear to me. Did they expect to play a role in GC without a GC rider? Feels to me that they're not accepting the current reality they're in. They should ride smart instead of dominant and then lose it all in every mountain stage.

They should be cleaning up those smaller races and tours honestly... they should be sending strong teams to those events and making sure they get podiums otherwise they're just riding for top 10 in the grand tours and some classics

@@marcr7583 I do actually think that they thought that Carlos Rodriguez could get on the podium, misguided but I think that's what they believed, much like G has in recent years. What they don't seem to realise is that this was very unlikely to happen, that teams have massively invested in top class riders, even as super domestiques, that Rodriguez was always going to find it though to beat. If I was being kind to Ineos I think they are, maybe so are, hoping that Bernal do get back to his best again and become a GC contender, I guess he's still under a long big money contract that they can't get out of and so they are stuck hoping he'll get back to be able to compete with the very best. I kind of agree with you about focusing on the week long races, this might work, this or concentrate on the lesser GT's (although this year with Pog going the Giro it was going to be too win here),but to implement this decision has to be to change strategy in order to do this. I think the problem has stemmed mainly the riders they let go, namely Martinez (who seems better than Rodriguez), Sivakov, and even Geoghan-Hart, and not replacing them with riders equal or better quality. They seem to rely on G a lot, why he even went to the Tour after doing the Giro is beyond me, even if it was only we a support rider, he just had nothing to offer and can't do this at his age now.

That may have had something to do with some of the dumbest racing from the Dutch team, not realizing there was another rider out front - giving the breakaway a 10 minute gap, and then sending solo attacks instead of using the team to close the gap.

Basically Froome and Bernal's crashes doomed the team. G is a good rider, but old. Bernal was meant to be the teams future, but since his crash he hasn't really come back to form - which is fair enough considering his injuries!

@@twatts4436 Obviously without the crash he would've improved, but even then I don't think he could've matched Pogacar. Given what riders Ineos does NOT have, I don't see their fortunes changing quickly. But they also are not developing riders like I would expect. But, that's an example.

I listen to Bernal's weekly podcast (Cyclast, in spanish), and two months ago his mindset was going to the tour to support Rodriguez, and as preparation for La Vuelta (he would like to win it, so he can say he won all grand tours). But then, we all saw how he faded away as the Tour progressed this year, and then straight after he finished it, he announced that it was unlikely he would take part in La Vuelta, and that he needed to sit down with his coach and develop new training plans. Huh ?? I think he's realised that he just can't match the best of the post-covid cycling era. All the talk is about enjoying his rides, the bike, how precious life is... which is understandable after doctors told him that there was a 75% chance he would not walk again when he had his accident, BUT... that doesn't help the team much, Ineos aren't going to pat him on his back and go ohhh well... let's just keep training and see if you get another top 3 on a week long race next year.... they need big results, and they won't come from Egan. Just saw news that Ethan Hayter is leaving the team as well... the ship is sinking and it's every man for himself.

@@matthewlewis2072 Who should they have identified and managed then? Ineos definitely identified top riders at a u19 Junior level. Martinez, Dunbar, Bernal, Narvaez, Sivakov, Pidcock, Rodriguez & Tarling either won u19 seasons or in the top 10 the last 10 years. I would agree these young riders perhaps don't reach a potential you expect at Ineos after Froome, Wiggins, Thomas & Bernal, but when these guys leave Ineos they rarely progress any more. I mean do we see Tao winning another GT at Trek, Dunbar's gone backwards, Sivakov's done a Landa and given up on GC it seems, yet all these riders were given GC leadership and got pretty far. Sivakov is now ranked as high as he was in hist first year at Sky. End of the day Pogacar was locked out of the market forever, nobody other than UAE could sign him. Jonas wasn't on anyone's radar and barely racing to identify and doing a Froome transformation is clearly not possible to plan by any team, it just happens. I'm not sure what their answer is when 3 GC riders are so far ahead of the numbers at the moment.

Yes, Ineos are struggling now, the more important question, is whether they can pivot and improve. There are so many reasons for this, not least others have closed the gaps and then moved it forward and radically improved, such as Jumbo et al. UAE has a once in a generation with Pog. Back to Ineos, Dave B is the MVP with his vision, leadership and management. I think Dan Bigham's recent resignation and what he said is exactly the issue. They are stuck and do not have a clear idea about direction. Previously, the team had a big budget and the best talent, now they have a big budget and talent that is on par with others (the professionalism within the whole peloton has massively improved, training rest, diet, CHO, etc). Nothing wrong with that, but if they do want to attract the talent they need to have a better plan especially as other big budget teams are competing for the same pool of talent and it would seem less of a risk to those people to join teams others than one that looks like it has problems...

Just a few solutions, playing backseat manager: 1) Old contracts - Ineos is carrying huge contracts from riders who made their name 5+ years ago. In 2026, Kwiato, G, Castro, Swifty should all be gone or in DS roles. 2) Equipment. When Pinarello dropped Movistar and said they'd work exclusively with Sky to develop bikes, it sounded like a great idea. Now Ineos is stuck with a mediocre supplier and the laughing stock of the casual consumer. I would a) either drop a lot of money to get Remco and bring Specialized along with him, b) try to sign three young riders with connections to a better brand (Specialized, Trek, Cervelo, etc.). 3) Invest in young riders looking for an aggressive racing style. Play moneyball a bit. Find the next Columbian phenom and let him race the Vuelta or Giro at 16. 4) Tell Pidcock he can't race the Tour until he lands a weeklong GC podium. In other words, we'll pay you to ride cross and MTB and have your fun (and we'll make you our social media project on those grounds), but you won't mess up the marquee event for us.

one thing i dont agree is the "big budget". i dont think INEOS group have limitless budget. They do have a budget. and unfortunately their top 3 paying riders not performing in INEOS jersey. Egan, Tom, Carlos haven't been able to perform. You can also clearly see the structure of INEOS as they're signing all the "young" "upcoming" talent in hoping to search for the next pogacar/Jonas.Tom is under contract till 2027 and i suspect he feel he deserve a "pay raise" after the olympic gold in MTB but thats not what INEOS is about... The only way INEOS can save itself is by signing the next Pogi/Jonas/Remco type of riders. INEOS owner said before during an interview for manchester united that he would rather search for the next mbappe than paying for a mbappe. this mentality certainly applys to INEOS too. Dont expect INEOS to sign pedigree riders again unless theres a change of mind.

Watched the women's road race live. Firstly congratulations Faulkner. Excellently timed attack. But I was frankly staggered that two of the greatest female cyclists ever, didn't react to Faulkner's attack. I'm hoping it was just exhaustion, but looking at the body language it simply looked like a complete lack of will. For two champions to just sit there and capitulate like that was extraordinary. Indeed disappointing on such a big stage. What's more, Bas - who'd been off the front with Voss for ages, chose to copy what the 'greats' chose to do and also not chase Faulkner. She chose to follow their (apparently) better racing intuition and as a result went from having a chance to podium, to coming fourth. Tough.

sure Ineos would like Pidcock to train for and go for the win in TdF, in next 2 years, before the Olympic MTB qualifying cycle starts again. Think Pidcock would like to go for a TdF overall, but I think he get bored of just doing road.

Ineos have no Game plan! They're still rolling tactics they were using 6 years ago. The world has changed and they've been caught in no man's land! What are they? What does the team stand for? Are they a Grand Tour team? A classics team? Stage robbers? Nobody knows. Pidcock is not a grand tour rider. There's too much old wood propping up the youngsters. Jim Radcliffe has said they won't buy in talent they'll build it yet they've "Had" to sign 2 older riders to fill gaps! It's a shambles. It needs a firm hand from outside with no "friends & buddies" on the pay roll to come in and get a grip! At the moment there's no team just a bunch of old mates getting paid well running out their contracts before retiring! That's not how you win things. Time for Sir Jim to take 5 minutes away from old Trafford and get things sorted out!

Still just running the “Sky train” for some reason with no real GC contenders. Every time I see Ineos pace at the front, I know exactly what’s going to happen: they use up their guys one by one, then when the real attacks come, Rodriguez and Bernal fall off the back. You’re right-it makes no sense to employ these tactics for them today.
@iansingleton
@iansingleton Ай бұрын
@@lordofthemound3890 exactly! And the whole Peloton know it. Thing is it's like the Ineos riders themselves know it's bullshit but that's what they're being told to do so they just do it. Which is probably why the likes of Pidcock are leaving not because of a lack of ambition but rather a lack of understanding modern racing and a lack of tactical awareness and ideas from the so called management!

This years Tour must a be a low point for INEOS. Mikel Landa, riding as a domestic finishing ahead of Carlos Rodriguez. Their team roster for stage racing is hampered by having Bernal, who hasn't returned to his previous level and is a top 10 one week stage racer. Thomas did OK at the Giro but is at the end of his career. Carlos Rodriguez doesn't seem to have progressed and doesn't look like a podium contender for grand tours. Pidcock has the engine and talent if he is able to focus on GC or is he better concentrating on 1 day races? INEOS do make some strange selections, such as putting Cameron Wurf in the Classics.

I suppose the leadership knows each and every rider's plans and ambitions for every year, they also self each of them after a fitness test. If there could be anything to blame, may be it should be to the leadership. TP does not select himself for the tour s. If the team has other riders stronger than him for the team's complement, then those would be selected ahead of him.

Ineos dominated as long as they had twice the amount of money of the second richest team. They won on easy mode. Competent management was all that was needed. Now they have had bad luck, especially with Bernal. Hard mode. One of too few riders getting results is a whiny brat, horrible for team cohesion.

This whole ‘Ineos is done’ is a bit overblown imo. Yes they’ve lost some talent, but they’ve also had some bad luck. Management in an organisation will always see change over a period of 10+ years. They may not have signed remco or pogacar, but actually some of their signings this year have decent results and won’t be costing a fortune in salary. Pidcock is certainly overpaid for what he’s delivered, but they do need to work it out to keep him on, perhaps with a bit more focus. Bigham’s departure was undignified and his part in their success is overblown. Unfortunately in both Bigham and Pidcock (among others) there are/have been some very big egos which management have failed to get a handle on. Unfortunately ineos’ past success is their own curse now, and cycling media seems hysterical about it.

Ineos were v.unlucky with the Froome and Egan crashes… and Nico Portals very sad death - also pretty clear that Jim Ratcliffe has moved on to Man Utd..billionaires aye? Their recruitment isn’t the best and they look like a team with no clear direction…and Ratcliffe hasn’t given them an open cheque book … I’d say they’re stuck in the past - expecting either Ganna, Hayter or Tarling to become the new Wiggins or not learning from Froomes crash that when injuries are multiple, serious , affect physiology and life threatening getting back to where you were is unlikely. As such they should have gone much harder for a GC rider and they need mountain domestiques..they didn’t get Simon Yates cos Visma LAB did but they got Bob Jungels ( for what?) And they do give very long contracts to people as though the real aim is stopping other people having them etc etc.
