BS! If anyone could make a car that drives like it did 15 years ago they would have 100% of the car market. 15 year old cars have ancient technology and none of the latest safety features. Lastly no one has a 15 year old luxury car that has not needed replacement brakes , tires, battery...... Those cost luxury brand prices for service and parts. As he rightfully points out there is a point where the costs ,even on a Lexus, makes it impractical to own. There is always someone who claims they have a one in a million car. If this were true you should contact Lexus as they will buy your car as a publicity dream for Lexus. That’s not going to happen as we both know that this is a nonsense claim regarding this car.

Alex Perez None of which has anything to do with the facts regarding depreciation of a car. Name one research source that contends that anyone can buy a car that will be in the same condition as when new 15 years hence. Lastly some people can buy an older car that they can service but if you buy a modern car it requires software and hardware knowledge. This is different than a car made 15 years ago. I’ve done hundreds of passes at the drag strip, beaten a lot of different cars, canyon runs and several road courses with no issues. Regular maintenance and consumable parts only. What a great car and even better knowing I bought it right at the 4 year sweet spot and love seeing that it’s holding value well. 😎😎😎

Buddy of mine bought 2011 ISF (that was about 3 years ago), ended up selling it 2 years later, took him 6 month to sell and lost $11k in depreciation in those 2.5 years, plus spent $1500 in maintenance. RCF even worse....those tank in value faster then Maserati :) So while ISF is a great car, no it doesnt hold value and never did, especially now that GSFs are dropping.....$45k can get one any day and some higher miles can be found below $40k. My grandma still drives her 2006 Lexus LX470 she bought brand new 14 years ago. It has never given her any problems. All she has ever done for the LX is oil change, replace brake pads, and the timing belt/ chain. She gets oil change every 6 months for her LX470, a bit extreme and wasteful but she likes it that way. It looks brand new although it already has 150,000 miles now. One time the service manager thought my grandma's LX470 was in service for sales inspection before it can be put on the dealer's lot for sale. so he wanted to buy. The service consultant who serviced my grandma's LX470 told the service manager that the SUV is in for oil change service and that it's not for sale. Few people have asked my grandma to sell her LX470 to them but she said no. I hope she'll give it to my when she's ready to buy a brand new Lexus LX570.

@R A got it for 20k, how much you think will it depreciate compared to the other cars I was looking at? 2016 Audi A4 and Infiniti Q50
@Chr15Payne5 жыл бұрын
@R A yes I'm in the US. Toyotas and by extension Lexus hold their value very well here, more than any other brand. I had a Nissan Maxima before, and I liked it until it started giving trouble. while looking at Q50s (Skylines in other markets) I noticed their prices for the same year was much lower and I kinda figured why just based on experience. I opted against the Audi because I hear even tho they are more reliable these days, maintenance is still a little more expensive and I'm not sure how it will affect their value in coming years. I know a car is not an investment but I'd like to hope I'm spending and losing less on the car I intend to keep a couple years.

@Boulder Pathways ''As a car enthusiast, I'm not looking for a Lexus to have fun in because it does not have the same heritage OR performance.'' Fair enough, as it's the luxury brand of toyota. And yet the ISF can compete against the M3 quite well. I am more of a mountain roads n corners guy than straight but here goes : Skidpad 0.96g vs 0.9g M3 0-60 is 4.6 vs 3.9 but it will catch the m3 at higher speeds. Both have limiter .. Isf around 280kmh and m3 250kmh Without limiter isf 333 and m3 roughly 300kmh (if speed is what you;re looking for) 1/4mile the m3 is 0.2 faster. The isf is around 100kgs heavier aswell. they're both great performance cars and i appreciate the engineers work(after all theyre Sedans and you can fit 4ppl n luggage in). But to call yourself an enthusiast and then saying Lexus does not have heritage or Performance is just Ignorant.

I got as a CPO with 30k miles. Came with a two year unlimited mileage warranty including four 5,000 mi services. Just had the last one done a couple of weeks ago at 52,286 miles. I love the rear wheel drive. And mine has every option. No blank spaces where a switch or light should be. I paid $50,000 and don't ever plan on selling it unless I win the lottery. An older Lexus with higher mileage is better than a cheaper car with fewer miles. I always recommend them to friends and family.

This analysis is all well and good. But the real reason you see that drop around the 3 year point is that is when the average vehicle is due for tires and brakes and random other maintenance. If you are a retail buyer I really think the best advice is find the exact vehicle you want with the colors you like and negotiate your best deal. Overall this will bring you more value than slicing and dicing numbers like a robot thinking you somehow outsmarted the used car market. If you are not a retail buyer (like me) you patiently watch FB and CL posts and you find a buyer that needs to sell now and you pick up a great vehicle somewhere close to trade in value. I'm not so particular about the year nor colors if I can get a good used car close to trade in value. You can only do this effectively if you really know cars and you can evaluate a vehicle on the spot... It also helps to know the psychology of negotiation and always be willing to walk away.
