The comments show people did not listen to the video: - He did not say BMWs are more reliable than Lexus. Only that Lexus is now having issues because they are forced to use smaller, turbo charged engines. BMW went through this process and have better engines and engine support systems now. - Yes, there are still recalls on BMWs. Many of the recalls people are pointing to are from BMWs from the same years and engines that are described as being very unreliable in the video. Saying the a water pump recall on a N55 platform disproves this video when he literally points out how bad the plastic water pumps on BMWs were shows you were too busy writing comments to listen. - He in no way is telling you to buy a BMW over a Lexus. If you still want a Lexus, by all means get one. He is just pointing out that you should be cautious about the Lexus you are purchasing and do your homework. Just like you should be very cautious before buying a used BMW. Don't assume that just because Lexus has great reliability means these new turbo charged engines will be without any issues.
@cain14484 ай бұрын
He says that 'in 2024 Lexus reliability and BMW reliability are much closer' but the figures show you are more than 38% more likely to have a failure with a BMW than with a Lexus He says of BMW 'clearly they're much better than the average' quoting figures which indicate they are actually only 1% better. For reference Lexus are 28.5% better than average.

Lexus, no questions there. For many reasons, BMW failed a lot because of cost-saving measures and tried to use the same block or components for diesel and petrol engines. While Lexus did not waste energy and resources on diesels, they perfected hybrid systems, which prolong the life of petrol engines. Another factor is customer attitude. While Germans use customers as beta testers, Toyota tests its components for an extra few thousand hours before release.. Also, you should learn to read statistics, average 186 failts, per 100, car, bmw has 184 and you say they are clearly better than average? No, infact this is very average.

Can't go wrong with hybrid lexus. The made in Japan one. German cars are filled with overcomplicated electronics, its obvious that more parts to break = more problems. That's how it is. New bmw 2.0 engines tend to fall apart after 90k miles, do you imagine a big lexus v6/v8 doing that?

I've been through 8 BMWs with minimal or no problems. They have been more reliable than many other brands I have owned. I laugh at how Lexus owners push the notion that repairing a Lexus at the dealer cost a fraction of what BMW. Reliable cars are those that have old but proven technology. Here, a great example is Toyota/Lexus or Nissan, Mazda, Kia, Hyundai etc. You can't expect advanced cars like BMW or Audi to be just as reliable. You can't expect it from anyone anyway cars like Ferrari or Porsche etc. Some are aimed at people who pay attention to costs, and others at people who pay attention to above-average engine parameters and performance in corners. The target group of customers is different. Both groups are great but for different cleints. That's simple.

BMWs + 10k oil changes, never worked together never will. That’s why most issues exist with them. Valve stem seals, leaking oil, eating through piston rings, blue smoke is all due to oil. My BMW is at 200k now and doesn’t have any of the common issues in 20 years and had since the beginning.

I’ve heard from someone with the naturally aspirated BMW having about 280K miles on it, manual 3, I think V6, and a friend with a 5 series manual, I think a V6 (late 90s), had about the same mileage before he bought a Tesla and sold the car. A person in my golf league has a 2005-2008ish I think V8 5 series, auto, over 180K miles. The late 90s BMW my buddy took to a lower cost BMW specialist business for maintenance and also did some things himself, the golf league guy knows cars a bit, and the other guy with the 3 knows cars to some degree. My uncle has had a fleet of BMWs building up for decades, he changes the oil on the cars and does some self maintenance. Never heard about major problems. I hear others with these cars though and a lot of complaints. Generally a Toyota or Honda is a good route if you don’t want to fuss with cars. I had a Pilot with 300K miles on it, ran exceptionally well, mostly just computer recommended oil change intervals.

Most people who own these cars don’t own them 10 plus years.
