How bad is the damage? IS300 Motor Blown

I was having lots of oil getting into the intake track, thinking it may have been the turbo I decided to replace the turbo and check compression, did it fix the problem?

Congrats! New turbo time! That oil coming out is normal you just need a catch can setup and you'll be ready to rock. Race cars are not to be expected to behave like daily drivers. Once you have boost that crank case pressure has to be effectively vented to a catch can with at least some 8AN sized lines. Piston rings will always have some amout of blow by with a boosted engine.

Problem will only be fixed for about the same amount of time get a catch can and block off the pcv fitting on the intake

Happy the compressions good hopefully you can get drifting again hopefully you can just slap pistons and rods in there and call it a day maybe even just some gte pistons and rods in there or nonvvti ge rods are good too.... btw do you remember what your caster setting where..i rewatched your old alignment vids and you never actually mentioned your specs

Prolly the ringlands. We know this is common on our GE VVTis. You could very well have good compression but cracked ringlands, thus blow by in that soda can.

I am in the process of re sealing my is300 just added a header and downpipe and full trans rebuild and shift kit. I would like to mount the oil drain off for the turbo in the pan while its out and add a turbo in a year or two. Just dont want to run i to any issues afterwards. I dont mind doing work in the car or pulling the engine again just would like to know what is baseline recommend for throwing a turbo on basically stock engine. Also what do i do for a tune? It will be a daily driver. A few rips from the stop light maybe

How did you run your turbo drain from. Turbo what fittings and how did you bolt down turbo there no room on manifold for the back bolts.thanks

Hey man I’ve been experiencing something similar on my IS300 on 7psi and a lot of NA-T guys have the same issue. Car runs and drives fine but lots of oil from the exhaust side breather. I spoke to driftmotion about it and they said it’s due to the poor baffling in the valve cover, unlike the GTE valve covers. Just a heads up that the engine may still be in good shape.

Dang man that sucks. I feel like I’m having the same issue except my car is a brand new built motor with race internals. What oil drain are you using? Do you have an angled fitting??

It wasn't the turbo you ran no catch can bet the passenger side fitting on the valve cover was to the front side of the turbo and you pcv valve in the stock location on the intake manifold....meaning you were for one adding boost to the crank case... Creating alot of pressure for the other hose to dump oil into the front of the turbo... Hints oil in the intercooler

Hey @C3, any particular reason you're choosing to engine swap versus rebuilding the is300 with new piston and rods? That was my game plan when mine dies...

So would you still recommend boosting the vvti and running it to 420ish if not running it hard; I.e drift events and stuff?
