The first supersonic I unlocked. Hated it at the start, love it now! If you're spading this out I recommend trying out some of the ordinance. Aim-9's are ok and Nords can be great fun, but the SNEB rockets can be hilarious. They fire from an internal launcher like on the Crusader so no added drag, and you shoot I think 5 or 7 at a time. Forcing a head on with a Harrier or Yak, then shredding them with a cloud of rockets may not be the most effective use of your time, but its damn good fun.

So, quick note about the F-8E (FN) that differentiates it from the US F-8E: Larger horizontal stabilizers/stabilators, larger blown flaps and Boundary-Layer-Control-System for landing and taking off from French Carriers, and a better radar. Now, onto the downsides of the F-8E (FN): It gets no countermeasures, whereas both the F8U-2 and F-8E get flares/chaff in the coming update.

@9:52 The ATAR series of engines that the SMB.2 gets is essentially a development of a BMW turbine engine, the BMW 018. Whilst it is to an extent "stolen" (war reparation so it's legit), I'm not sure the Rolls Royce Avon had the same inception. After all, DEFAs and ADENs are inspired from the same german 30mm design so it might not be a surprise both engines had similar origins.

I remember spading this when it came out, was one of the most painful experiences of my war thunder career. I come back to it now and again, and spaded it is barely decent. I always had trouble with planes that suffer from poor energy retention and acceleration

Excellent video, Super Mystere by far is my favorite jet in all War Thunder. Its always nice to see an aircraft my father personally flew here in the Honduras Air Force from 1978-1993. By far the most demanding jet my father flew during his aviation career.

The SMB2 feels... not great not terrible. Many things outrun it, some things out turn it, and I feel like your ability to remember or assess which is pivotal in playing it well. Nords are great in headons, and the cannons and SNEBs are great for ground pounding. It's about what you expect from an all-rounder, having its painful times, and enjoyable moments.

Speaking of the looks of the french planes, that applies mainly to the Dassaults planes. Marcel Dassault (formerly known as Marcel Bloch, yes the one that made the Bloch series of fighters of WW2) said that « a plane that looks well flies well. That philosophy led to the Mirages and the Rafales being possibly the sexiest aircraft ever produced. (Fight me, spitfire chills)

The flight model of the SMB2 is super bugged for some reason giving it absolutely horrid energy retention. The SMB2 was an absolute BEAST at turning IRL but the energy bug in WT limits its play style. It could also carry R.550 Magic missiles but having those at 9.0 would be absolutely bonkers.

When I was grinding the Yak38 these and the F3H were the only things I regularly had to fear. It seems the folks flying them these days are REALLY good at making them work. B- engine, A++ guns, and A+ agility. Yup, it's a French plane all right.

The fact is to grind French tech tree, I massively used lend lease American aircrafts, which are great to play, but for me, a French baguette boi and huge fan of the aircrafts of my country, is really reeeeeally frustrating, because French native planes are for the most part huge garbage, due to bad performances, or bad guns (MB157 fucked up), or even worse, BAD BR ! Can you imagine this, knowing you’re sitting with an actual good French plane but you can’t do anything because Gaijin decided to matchmake you with BF109-G2, Ki44 or P51-C-10, this is just a pain in the ass… But it seems the french native tree begins to got a redemption from Gaijin, because some planes have been bringed back at lower BR, like the Vautour which was at 9.7 back in the days, and now I can more enjoy flying this thing because it’s back now at 9.0. I remember also the Mystere IIC which was a pure suffering at 9.0. The plane is actually good, but you were simply outclassed by most of your opponents, now it’s at 8.3 and it’s now quite enjoyable !
