Bahadur shah had decided to surrender before East India Company . One Commander BAKHAT KHAN - with a 20,000 men army -- tried to persuade Bahadur shah to lead the fight against English . He gave a long motivational lecture . But Bahadur shah did not listen . BKHAT KHAN left with his men .

@parjanyashukla176 May be you are right . Whatever I wrote was from memory of a book -- " DEHALI KI JANKANI " ( देहली की जांकनी ) by some Maulana and published in 1930's , BEFORE Independence . That book contained eye witness descriptions of 1857 . I never saw that book again . This Bakht Khan was from that book . The book was published by some press in Dehradoon . I wish if I could get even pdf copy .

1857 was not first war of independence. It was a maulvis engineered plan to reinstall mughal empire in India by evicting the British. Mughal empire would have been fatal for the Hindus that is why most of the sikh and hindu kings stayed away from it. Very few joined and perished. The very fact that bahadur shah was selected to lead the war proves the planning of the muslim maulvis of north India at that time.
