Yeah I think it's because Teemo is designed for one specific archetype while the rest are more flexible and annoying. But people do like hating him so I get it lol

Runeterra Release: I play my burn swarm units and I drop my Crowd Favourite on turn 4... Im out of cards already, better draw that decimate to finish them off. Runeterra Now: My aggro gameplan failed so I transition to midrange gameplan... if it failed to let me just drop card that says: If game went on for long enough, you win the game

@@travisprescott9708 Pokey has never been fine. To me, it's like "deal 1 damage and lose nothing". It can break barrier, spell shield and still keeps card advantage? Even when your opponent kills his own unit - the subject that Pokey targeted, you still can draw a card. WTF is that?

The most problematic features of BC are that they refill both the hand and board without paying high prices. They have overall better cheaper units and spells than any other region. BC has VERY CHEAP and good champions that have deck building flexibility due to the dual region. The most unbalanced and stupid region in the game.

Yeah, it’s incredibly frustrating to get extremely good value trades and then just lose on card advantage anyway because Bandle doesn’t care. It almost feels like you’re punished for trying to play well.

Totally nailed it. And totally feel you on the deck builder part. So often I just scrapped my original deck idea, added in BC and ended up with a better deck. So frustrating.

I watched Grapplr's game where somehow a 2 cost drop manifested a damn Gorlith🙂 Shows you everything that is wrong with that region. Btw they should take away mega-gnar's quick attack. Having overwhelm is already enough and thematically I don't know why his mega form would have quick attack in the first place. I know for sure in LoL his attack speed lowers greatly as a trade off for more power and tankyness during his transformation as mega Gnar. They could do that with Gnar in LoR too.

I came over as a refugee from Magic, and specifically loved how runeterra avoided my biggest problems with MTG: overcentralized archetypes (UW-everything for years) and decks always boiling down to piles of goodstuff value cards. Bandle launched both of these problems into the game front and center, and it feels terrible having to watch this happen all over again.

Even in commander nowadays, the suposedly most versatile and abrangent format, I struggle to be interested in matches because every deck feels the same thing: good stuff staples, nobody seems to want to risk anything for flavor or build around.

The little thing I hate is that Pokey Stick still lets you draw a card even when the target is gone. Vile Feast doesn't let you do that! And it works with Golden Aegis too.

Card conditions. Pokey stick condition to draw a card it's just playing the card. Vile feast states that you need to complete the first action in order to activate the second action.

I kinda get that Bandle City supposed to be a jack of all trade in Runeterra but having a better aggro than noxus with GNAR every game and a hand that always full is not a fun game to play against when we had to play around 100 removal and buffs. Im sick of this region already 😭

Step 1: Nerf *every single* bandle city card that does something that other regions do. Ping, silence, buff, stun, barrier, spell shield, tough, etc. Step 2: Buff every single card that is unique (or mostly unique) to bandle city. Impact, Fae, Attach, Multiregion synergies, transforms. That's all, the design isn't doomed to fail at all. Pokey stick should be 3 mana, or have a condition for it to draw, that way it's not an auto include. Examples: Pokey stick is a 2 mana deal 1 damage to anything. If you've created a card this turn, draw 1. Loping Telescope, 3 mana 2/1. Manifest a celestial thats costs 3 or less, an epic card of a *region you've played this game*, or a multi region follower. Stone Stackers, 2 mana 2/3 with impact. Strike: grant me impact. Gnar... should LOSE QUICK ATTACK when leveled up in exchange for esentially getting overwhelm+challenger!!! These cards don't need balancing, they need *flavor* !!!!

Fae’s are awful, in the “Unfun to play against” way. They sure as fck don’t need a buff, I’d think of a nerf even because of the lack of risk with them

IF those Fae/Attach decks DIDN'T have pokey stick + friendship + major + conchologist + loping telescope + mimimorph, then I would personally argue they aren't *that* strong... at least,, nerfing Faes just because they always come along with minimorph + wallop safety, is kinda overkill Remember, bandle city needs an identity, so their signature cards (like fae, impact, etc) should be powerful (the rest should burn in hell *:)* )

@@airiquelmeleroy Their identity can be impact and transform, not attach. Unless they decide to kill the Fae if the attached unit actually dies. But as it is at the moment, faes turn anything into a win condition and return to your hand if the win condition dies. No risk and you win just by card advantage because it most likely took the enemy a lot more resources to kill your win condition than it took you to create it out of thin air

That is the reason why i doesn't make off/meta decks without bandle city because i cannot win never against any gnar deck or pantheon, but if the balance patch let me do funny decks again, i apreciate it

A little off topic, but you touch on something that's irked me about Runeterra for a long time now. It really feels like you're never safe. You're always one play or combo away from death (even at max hp, or when your own board far outweighs your opponent's). It's not just Runeterra that feels like this though, modern Yugioh and Shadowverse are the same in my experience, none of these card games are about trading blows and plays until finally gaining the upper hand, instead they're about surviving until you can 100 to 0 your opponent. And I hate that. Don't get me wrong, I love the games, I'm obsessed with card games and spend more hours on them than I do anything else in my life lol. But it really bums me out that my favourite card games have all become this. Whether it's power creep or some kind of intentional design, the games just aren't about trading blows anymore, it's all about that one knockout punch (or turn if you will). If I ever manage to get off my ass and finally make the card game ideas I love the most of mine, I think that's one of the key things I'd focus on for the player experience. I don't want the players to always feel like they're on the edge of death. There should be a sense of (temporary) safety a player can achieve if they've played well. Or heck, even if they're just at max life and the game has only just started (Shadowverse and Runeterra both being up to 10 mana games that commonly end with a 100 to 0 OTK between turns 5 and 7 class as "only just started" in my opinion lol). -- That's just a personal pet peeve of mine with these games that I felt like sharing. I appreciate it if lots of other people disagree and love the kind of "always on a knife's edge" game design this kind of thing brings. But I do wish at least SOME of my favourite card games would pull back a bit from that lol.

Exactly. While I personally enjoy the thrill of being on the edge, it gets really exhausting after a while. I want to have big, bombastic battles between champions and their armies, with spells striking units down as they tear each other apart. Instead, most card games just feel like you said. There's no safety, no actual battling. It's just whoever can build up that massive attack first.

Yo I used to love shadowverse because I could just make an absolute meme of a deck with stupid units that had just the right mix of uselessness, ugly and cute designs that scratch my inner weirdo but yeah if you're not running onr of the 3 best decks you auto lose every game

In my opinion, every card game biggest problem comes when they add RNG cards (except Yugioh but oh boy, Konami made his own big problems with how the TCG evolved until today). Cards that generate more cards are by default overpower because you don't lose any resource after playing such card. Most of card videogames agree on, having more cards in you hand means more possible plays to do when you have the chance.

While I mostly agree, I believe there is a place for combo decks that do threaten to otk, albeit 1) later and 2) with a more interactable combo than what we are seeing with, eg. Fizz Papercraft. Not putting pressure on an opponent setting up their combo should be punished accordingly, imo.

I used to love playing expedition because about a year ago the card pool was small enough to make reasonable assumptions as to what might be in your opponents hand, and play around those assumptions. Used to.

Hey sunny great video Did you know that prior to bandle city release, Riot France organised this sentinel based paper RPG (in French) where one of the players decided to exterminate the entirety of bandle city, swarming it under an army of zombies and creating a mass genocide? It feels so good today to watch this as a French LoR fan. It is called "game of roles - sentinelles".

I feel like mini morph should either last for 1 round or be a fast spell(that way the player can react to save their unit and the opponent has to use additional resources to kill off the unit). Attach units should be sent to the board during the round their partner is killed and then sent to the hand at the end of the round. Maybe they could also make the spell that you get from Cochologist fleeting or make the the spell you choose cost additional mana.

I used to play all the time before BC came out. From the crazy initial release, to the inevitable nerfs to the mixed feelings expansion, it felt like Bandle City added more frustration than fun as time went on. The huge spike in strong RNG elements coupled with the insane reach the new cards added reminded me too much of Hearthstone. Just feels like if you’re not playing Bandle, you’re missing out.

I think the two biggest problems with Bandle are its free value generating cards. Hand size is always a positive in card games and having a region that universally generates value through card draw and card generation makes it so much stronger than other regions. Bandle City is almost universally a good region to include because Pokey Stick, Hidden Pathways, Conchologist, and Loping Telescope are such universally good cards that can fit into literally any deck. And you know: Minimorph exists as a horrible biproduct of Runeterra's crappy OTK meta that cards like Lee Sin and Fizz created. (And then Bandle City furthered that problem with Attach which is hilarious because Attach is a crappy OTK keyword that counters Minimorph.)

I think a huge issue is the manifest mechanic. If manifest showed the card generated. It would help a ton and allow some outplay possibility. I feel this is the most competitive deck we have had at a time but they are definitely a few over tune cards

Honestly when I first heard of Bandle coming to Runeterra my reaction was "Oh that's cool, a region of hamsters that have learned different things from other regions even if they don't do it as well as those regions" But then, the rat nation attacked... and everything changed...

This is a fantastic summary of how i was feeling, kept drifting away from LOR, and its for these exact reasons, has just been PVE for me recently I keep wishing though i know impossible, bandle city was just removed or completely reworked as a region, its changed the game for the worse since it arrived for me. Oh Void why wasn't it you :(

I wish I could play the PVE in Runeterra. I absolutely loved Lab of Legends. But alas all we have now is that shitty Path of Champions, and I can’t play that game mode without constantly remembering how much better Labs was and wondering why Riot always has to take away whatever people like best to give them something they never asked for…

Path of Champions is a worse experience than Labs in almost every way I can think of, but it’s the only real PvE option we have so of course people will play it when they don’t want to play PvP. I just hate that they got rid of Labs and replaced it with Path of Champions, like why not have both and let people choose?

I think Bandle Tree should remake like Sun Disc: 1 mana, Bandle Tree (40~50 countdown) Game start: If all of your card is Bandle City, summon 1 of me from your deck Round start: create a random dual region unit If you summon a dual region unit, countdown me 1. When i finished countdown, win the game. Since BC doesn't have an unit that can help countdown a landmark (yet), i think this would give BC an identity for "dual region" region and make Tristana more playable because she will growing so big (Thick girl). Make her stats (0|2) would balance her if this would happen.

Summoning one from your deck while still keeping the card generation would make it even more broken, but in a different way. It'd run as a low curve aggro deck that effectively draws 2 cards per turn. It would probably need a full redesign that removes either the creation on the wincon portion to be possible to balance.

Bandle city in its current state reminds me of some of the modern yugioh decks and I am no Yugi Boomer, I like modern decks, I play them all the time, but when they limit deck building because something is so easy to put on a deck and make it better (DPE and things like it for the ones who know) its just revolting. When they announced Udyr, I really hoped to get to play what I always called The best F2P cardgame in existence, but Udyr being shit and his counterpart broken and just by himself, not counting his archetype was a sign for "okay, back to Yugioh, I guess"

I remember making a Poppy/Hecarim deck because I forgot that revive does not keep buffs and wanted to make massive shark chariots. It did not work like that... yet... I never lost a game with that deck...

I've legit quitted LoR all together after Bandle City was released. I had such high hopes for this game but Bandle City was such a massive failure and the sad thing is there is no way to fix it without completely removing the region or the multi-region mechanic.

The problem is not Bandle being the final region, it's the current design philosophy, if they swapped BC with the Void and kept creating cards like they're doing now, the game would still be suffering the same problems.

@@nopatiencejoe6376 we know, but the identity of bandle in lore is multiple regions kinda with the portals etc which does line up with the gameplay... sadly Void if brought in as a region could have had quite a different flavour if trying to match to lore as they have done prior Or.....it could also have been a semi colourless region also, but at least it would be cooler

The developers give BC everything because they dont have enought ideas, but I think that some good approaches in BC might be to create more win conditions with Impact kw (stacking more times); with this identity clear the developers doenst need to steal the identity to other regions like: - stunt: Ionia - swarm: PyZ - silence, spellshield, value: Targon - high stats: Demacia If versatility is going to be its identity, then BC will have to pay some extra cost than his similar card in other regions.

Bandle city solved right here with these nerfs, I guess: Gnar -> 3/3 Pokey Stick -> 3 cost Conchologist -> 1/1, manifest create a card with 2 or less cost from bandle city Looping telescope -> 1/1, manisfest create a celestial card or a bandle city card with 2 or less cost Bandle city mayor -> 1/2, manifest a bandle city 3 cost or less card, first multiregion per turn lesser 1 cost Wallop -> 4 cost Bandle Tree -> If you have played a 10 non-created cards from every region, summon 6 random yordles on Round Start Yordles in Arms -> If 4+ regions give +3/+1 if not +1/+1

Change bandle tree from "You win, lel" to Roundstart: i manifest a 8+ unit, it costs 0 this turn. This would give you a hard win when you completed the tree, but it would still give counterplay. Also all yordles should be heavily understattd. Atm they have to much power or health for their effects.

Poppy played in all decks under the Sun; This value generation ruining my fun These aggro players who all feel so witty It's part of the fun of my Yordle city. Seeing an army of buff Yordle that spawns; Having these travelers discard all my win cons; A 3 cost 10|10 because of a kitty; It's part of the fun of my Yordle city. Minimorph obliterating my superstar Seventy Shades of getting beat up by Gnar; I haven't even mentionned bandle tree; It's part of the fun of my Yordle city. When I reach deep, When the Sun Disc rises, When I'm feeling well, I simply remember my yordle City, And then I feel like it's hell.

I quited the game after Pantheon was released, and I couldn't find the problem but I was having less fun playing. And seeing all your points, all are very accurate to the sense of unfairness that the yordles make me feel. Glad to know that is not just me being salty. PS: I also hope that the void devours bandle city and all of their units.

the biggest issue i have is genuinely the identity. not just in gameplay but in visuals and design. sure, everything in whimsical might be cool, but it’s so much less of a unified idea or identity than 'colorful elemental magic of ixtal' or 'ever-gnawing, restless, destructive, dark, purple void'. especially with runeterra champions becoming a thing now, it doesn’t even seem like bandle with the dual region feature was necessary because they could've just used that to expand the yordle pseudo-region and even be able to better control what its champions can and can't offer you. this is genuinely the biggest pet peeve i have with it. their 'unique region' could have just been "Yordles and *their synergy*". Lulu could've been "Yordles and Fae" or "Yordles and cards that support". having them be that, even if it was dual region with their original pairing could have made them a lot more balanced because then gnar wouldn't just pull the entirety of poppy's support package out of his ass. i just know i won’t be able to use reksai, velkoz and khazix in one deck when they come out; even though they all look alike and are from the same place and have the same purpose. learn, adapt, destroy. because of these hamsters who are known for being insanely varied and existing and adapting to any region they happen to live in. *these guys* got their own unifying region, to be sure i could play the whimsical, happy-go-lucky lulu with the drug-addicted, clinically insane war veteran kled and the primal stone-age, frozen-in-ice survivor gnar while sprinkling in dark wizards and attach units BEFORE DECIDING A SECOND REGION; for no other reason than 'they're all furry midgets'. it just doesn’t feel right.

What's even worse is that Dual Region Cards allow players to play the same deck 3x in a Gauntlet, while just swapping that 1 champion you play Triple Bandle Tree lineups have extremely polarized matchups and it causes players to lose entire gauntlets just because you don't have 3 decks that counter bandle tree Edit: That obviously applies to YiA and similar Bandle only decks like Shellfolk as well

I wholeheartedly agree with this video. BC is the only reason why I play strictly PvE now. I feel as though the entire region needs a massive overhaul including its champions. Manifest can also be reworked into putting the manifested card on top of your deck rather than directly in hand.

There are 3 trash that shouldn't be on this game for me: 1.Aloof Travelers(My Decimate kept getting discarded) 2.Minimorph(felt like a burst speed killer spell, sure its kinda expansive, but it ruins all of my decks lol) 3.Pranks:Really, opening up your hand is already annoying, but, grant them more mana cost, reducing unit stats, and add vulnarable?Thats way too much value

It’d be real fun if the Star Spring took less health to activate but it gave your nexus “When an ally is healed, deal damage equal to that amount to all enemies and the enemy nexus.” And also it stacks if you manage to draw multiple, so it’s not completely awful as you’d want 2 or 3 star springs in your deck.

yeah, Shadowverse started sucking once OTK or on-hand win conditions became a thing, then the new cards no longer even depended on the Craft's mechanics to win. Like, Bloodcraft was known for Vengeance which means that cards gain additional effects when you only have 50% hp left, now the OP cards don't even need that condition.

Very good video, m8. Well produced and directed. I think the region needs some serious restrictions (remember discard aggro or aurelion sol ramp?) In my ideal world ALL yes ALL BC champs (except teemo and other already 1|1s) and followers would be nerfed by minus 1|1 because they already swarm and they are critters so thematically it would fit. They have yordles in arms anyways.But hey, one can only dream. So excited for Jhin he is one of my fav champs. Can't wait for him to murder this rat pest. Also can't wait for my OTP Vel'koz, I'd like to see him 'study' the rats as well ;)

I think that the main problem with BC is the fact that the region offers so much flexibility and value that, like you stated, it completely ruins the whole point of having region-specific archetypes. I deckbuild as well and while making meta decks doesn't always equal making a "fun" one, it genuinely sucks that 9/10 times you get to a point where it's just like "well, this IS a really cool deck concept and it runs fine, but missing out on _______ (insert 3 different core game mechanics your region Shouldn't have access to) does feel bad". A region shouldn't fix core deck flaws (ex: card draw) while offering more and more value to the board. That said, I've always thought that the whole region would be better off offering deck-specific options (ex: pinging x damage on an ally to get value like in noxus, sacrificing creatures and ephemeral interactions like in SI, etc) to give OPTIONS to expand on existing decks while retaining their "multi-regional" identity instead of straight up patching 90% of their flaws. Like a booster-pack region of sorts!

Bandle city was supposed to be the answer to MTG's multi-colored card providing flexibility and deck building variety. Instead it just provided easy value and easy aggro in a game already filled with those options.

8:17 Hearthstone is a meme fest but I think this is a bad example, because Zephrys the Great is *not* random and actually a really well designed card in my opinion. Zephrys looks at the board and then offers you a choice between 3 specific cards for you to pick from. a) It comes with a heavy deckbuilding restriction, that being a no-duplicates aka singleton deck. This isn't *as* bad in HS as it would be in LoR, but it's still significant. b) It can only pull from a relatively limited pool of cards, that being the original classic set. c) A skilled player knows exactly what Zephrys will offer you when you play him and it offers a lot of room for skill expression. You can play him on turn 2 so he will offer you a great turn 3 tempo card, or you might want to save him for a board clear, or for lethal, but unless you have a way to recycle him you only get one. He was absolutely a meta-defining card while he was in Standard, but he was not unhealthy for the game at all imo, since a skilled player also knows what the *enemy's* Zephrys will offer if he was to be played. Forcing your enemy to drop their Zephrys at a suboptimal timing was a very skill-testing strategy. d) In relation to the previous point, the algorithm that decided what Zephrys would offer you was pretty good, but it couldn't literally read your mind, only see the board and hand states. So creating a board that would guarantee that Zephrys gives you what you need was yet another form of skill expression. Hearthstone is full of RNG clown fiesta design disasters, but Zephrys is definitely not one of them.

It should have been Ixtal, man. You could have built the region to be "Landmark Shadow Isles" with a couple of archetypes that didn't care about that at all, like Dragons and a Rengar Lurk package, maybe?

Point of order regarding Ixtal: you say "eventually Qiyana" was added to the ranks of Rengar and Nidalee, but Ixtal as a region _did not exist_ until Qiyana's release, and by extension did not exist until a few months before LoR's public release. Just something that grinds my gears - people kept bringing up Ixtal as a "better" LoR region than Bandle City, but from a flavor and opportunity standpoint Ixtal was basically a non-entity. I agree that Void would have been cool though.

I think people are overcomplaining about bc. Riot just needs to nerf loping telescope, conchologist, yordles in arms and rework minimorph and bandle tree so they don't completely shut down the control playstyle. Other than that, bc is fine. Have in mind that every region was op when first released, except Targon that only became broken when Zoe and Aphelios came out.

Firstly, inspiring video! This inspired my following thoughts: I personally think that the discussion about a game should originate from how the fun is provided, and how less fun Bandle makes LoR. In my opinion LoR has mainly two fun: playing the game & deck-building. So I believe the first issue of Bandle city is it focuses on combo strategy too much: Pantheon, Yumi and paper-craft enables very fast combo, forcing a response of either Minimorph or Vengence. Damage based ones also might work but even Concerted struggles, not to mention those Mystic shots. This damages the fun of interacting with health, board and card resource, because combo only care about very specific counters, so no more 1 hp combacks or outgrinds or Asol. The second issue is too much card generation. This further pushes players towards playing combo, and damages the balance of old card generation tools. The third problem is too much randomness, not randomness is bad, but because it is almost impossible to play around telescope. It is still super fun and rewarding when you do successfully play around them but it is super hard, too hard for average players, so there is a lot less fun from strategy & decisions. The fourth problem is multi-region design with unbalanced regions makes region combination mostly Bandle + X. The good thing is that all these problems can be fixed by adjusting some stats. I also really like the idea of revealing randomly picked cards, so it invites more counter-plays & interactions without killing the fun of randomness & surprise. Anyways, I still believe in the future of LoR, and thank you so much for making this great video!

I have an idea for a general nerf to bandle city. Imagine that every duel region has their effect, and it gets bonuses for the deck only involving the 2 regions that get bonus effect. For example, loping telescope only can manifest a yordle, rare, or 1-3 celestial, but if you are playing a bandle/targon deck, you can get it's current manifest pool. This would tone down the overwhelming options that these cards have without completely killing the region. It also keeps cards that are generally good still a decent option in all decks, but even better in ones that they have that region for.

tbh if all cards from bandle city were overcost/understat they would feel way more balanced as you would actually have a tradeof when playing the all cards region just like in magic the colorrless cards are aways worse bcz they are colorless, on lor it is even less relevant having overcost cards since you can't miss the mana turn

I don't think "you win the game" cards are inherently bad. What makes bandle tree bad is that there's no way the opponent can interact with that new wincon that's on the board, apart from messy landmark removal. Starspring also gives an instant win, but it feels a lot more fair cuz the opponent can manage their damage dealt to delay the healing wincon and get a win.

I think Runeterra made 3 fatal mistakes: 1) Allowing players to obliterate units on a full board. This lowered IQ required to pilot decks and removed a lot of interesting interactions. You would have to think about the units you play that may become clutter in the future, consider cards that can interact with your own board, take more unfavorable trades just to clear space or deliberately refrain from attacking to punish a swarming opponent. 2) Landmarks, or at least landmarks with no countdown mechanic. Anything that goes "I want to sit on your board and generate value without interacting with anything for the entire game" should be a unit like Dawnspeakers or Monkey Idol. Having to create this awkward sub-section of cards that interact with landmarks cluttered the game and created more black and white interactions. Star Spring, Mt Targon, and Bandle Tree aren't good cards/decks, but if you aren't playing a good deck either the matchup may entirely revolve around whether or not you're running landmark removal as insurance. 3) Everything covered in this video.

I think it's worth mentioning expeditions too - other regions rely on synergy to make cards that aren't amazing on their own playable and have some straight up bad cards, but bandle city's overall card quality is so high and in general the cards are good in a vacuum. I'm always looking for bandle city targon because bandle city solves hand problems and creates an early game that most decks in expeditions can't break through (constructed decks could, but that's not where we are) and targon provides the insane late game to always close out. As snnuy said, the combination of value and tempo is the problem, but it's so much worse when you aren't competing with constructed decks. Easy example is yuumi pantheon - because you can go over 3 cards per type, having 4 or more loping telescopes and conchologists is totally doable, so you can get decks that have even more value than the constructed counterpart, all against decks that aren't perfect or have to make sacrifices because of the draft nature. This isn't the only example of this, gnar creates a similar problem, and it's just that BC just doesn't have bad cards, and has very few situational ones.

I basically stopped playing when Bandle was announced. I don't want to play as cute fuzzy critters, and I certainly don't want to be dominated by them. The #1 problem with Ionia was that it was the Yordle region before Bandle City!

I remember the one time I was really mad at the game. Lissandra control against Darkness, the enemy cast Veigar turn 4, since I didn't have strong removals the only way to eliminate it was with my area spells, I had organized them so that it would die 3 turns later, I can reach the late and win. About to kill Veigar, "he can't save him" I thought, he summoned his Conchologist, and gave him the Maokai spell healing all his units, it was really annoying.
