There was no real continuity back then, which helped. But, yeah, not only Bruce would research the Graysons, but the authorities would look for a living relative before allowing Bruce to take him in.

I like to imagine it took a while to track her down since whichever parent she is related to ran away from home (circus). So Dick was already living with Bruce. So Bruce offered her room, board, a part time ‘job’ and retirement package - she lives with them and can supervise Dick, and they share custody. Frankly, I was disappointed the old lady in the Battison movie isn’t Harriet. Perfect opportunity.

Some trivia about the Batman '66 Alfred: Alan Napier was the first person cast in "Batman 66". He didn't know who Batman was, being from England. (Batman was not a globally popular character yet). When his agent said they wanted him to play Batman's butler, he said "Who's Batman?" Jack Nicholson's version of the Joker, Jack Napier, was named in honor of him. The name was also used in the 90s animated series. In Batman 66, Alfred used a bicycle called the "Alf-cycle".

The comment about how he could have made another ward to add a female to the cast is the part that interested me the most when thinking what that timeline would have been like. Just imagining Dick having a foster sister, what would her super hero name be, would she be Batgirl, I doubt Barbara would have been a thing if that was way he went. The DC universe could have been completely different if that was the opinion they used and now it's one of those ideas I'll always think about.

I don't care what people say. Batman'66 will always be BATMAN. The Dark Knight stories don't always need to be dark, disturbing and philosophical. After all, it's the story of a guy dressed as a bat who beats up a clown, a guy in green pajamas and a purple mask, a dwarf with a monocle, and a crazy cat lady in latex. It is evident that the campy and crazy tone fits perfectly with these stories.

There's a fine line with being campy and crazy like you said and what was presented in the tv show. They were just making fun of how 'stupid' the comics of the time was. That's my takeaway at least.

Batman and his supporting cast are very adaptable characters. You can fit them into super grimy, realistic settings with grim violence, but then also put them into vibrant, over-the-top, silly camp. And either one is going to work perfectly. That kind of versatility is tough to come by IMO.

Dang, this really has me wanting Alfred's return to nod to the Outsider. Heck, I'd love to see it done as hokey and outlandish as possible, to the point where Batman stops, turns to whomever is closest and says, "does all this seem a bit off to you?" I could see it in my head, Nightwing looks back and remarks, "A bit? This is wacky time travel shenanigans levels of weird. I'm wondering if we got hit by a faulty batch of Scarecrow gas and need to just sleep it off." Yes, I just want Nightwing to get a panel where he says shenanigans. I want weird things.

The fact that letters to the editor weren’t published including the addresses is what led to fandom. In the old days it was hard for fans to find each other but since addresses were published fans could send letters to each other and modern fandom was born.

I remember reading that comic a few years after it came out and was shocked that Alfred was dead only to read a few issues later that he was The Outsider. It took my child mind into a wild world. I admit that was not a real big fan of Alfred and was even less of a fan of Aunt Harriet, but falling rocks and being resurrected? I already thought of Batman comics as being in a world of magic, this solidified it. I never thought anything about the three guys living together when I was a kid, they had TV shows with the same scenario during that period.

Aunt Harriet was never entrusted with the Big Secret about Bruce and Dick. That would made her a bit of a nuisance if the Dynamic Duo had to split whenever the bat signal appeared. And had she found out their secret she probably would have nagged Dick into dropping his Robin persona fearing for his life. Nope, she had to go.

On the note of Batman's 'living situation' back then, in the Superman documentary from like the 2000s, Kevin Spacey made a comment about how in old commercials for Corn Flakes and the like, Lois wasn't allowed to partake in sharing breakfast with Clark despite the two being sweethearts (something something, it would be inappropriate to show Lois eating breakfast with someone she wasn't married to in his house) so Clark somehow had his breakfast at JIMMY'S house, which in turn would make you think what *THEIR* 'living conditions' were. Granted, at the time Spacey was the recent Lex but in hindsight....yeah. Edit: *YES. I WANT AN AUNT HARRIET VIDEO.*

I miss Alfred in the current comics. He still pops up in stories from time to time, depending on what era the series is set in, but the ongoing Batman and Detective books are poorer without him.

If you watch the early El Santos films Santos has a lot in common with Batman, masked crime fighter, secret base etc. But his butler looks alike like Alan Napier except it's 1961 and not 1966. FYI about Wertham, it was of his findings proved pivotal in the Brown v Board of Education case overturning school segregation.

The story of Alfred's first death reminds me of the BTAS episode ("Trial" is the ninth episode of the second season of Batman: The Animated Series) where the rouges gallery put Batman on trial at Arkham Asylum.

I really like these bits with Alfred doing work he can finish without Batman in advance, or criminals making sure there is no favoritism. I feel like1930s morals cared about gentlemanly stuff like this.

When I first read the story of Alfred's death I was sad-and slightly angry.(I was 9.)I still would pick up a Batman comic book the next couple years-and then the Caped Crusaders came on TV. I had mixed feelings toward Alfred being in the show...but in late summer of 1966,Alfred returned. I was glad he was brought back but I felt he was only returned because he was on TV. ("Be glad we didn't change his hair-color.")

Well, there you have it. That's how they can bring Alfred back in the current continuity since he's already a Frankenstein-type monster and there's no way a little neck snapping could keep him down forever.

This show gave us so much, and yet we were so disrespectful to it for so long. I mean, Riddler as a top tier villain, his suit and cane, the blueprint for Maxie Zeus in King Tut, Barbara Gordon, and the weirdest Jan and Dean album!
