I think balls per boundary would put a rest on the debate of if 2,3s are important or the boundaries are. If a guy hits a boundary every 4 balls after 3 dot balls, he’s striking at about 150-180. If you score a boundary every 6 balls and take 2-3s with very low dot balls, you can be striking similarly. The point is the situation of the game. You don’t want to be bowled out 180 in 18 overs chasing 200. Nor score 180 in 20 overs chasing 200. It’s the balance. You need both of these players. You can’t have 11 russels or 11 kohlis in your team. Both of those teams are going to lose, one of going to fall short on wickets, the other on runs. In fact if you give Russell 10 chances to bat, the law of averages will force him to bat differently in the Powerplay, middle and the death. It’s about your role in the team and the ultimate goal is to win the match.

@tjkarna29986 ай бұрын
Power play is meant to score 4s. It's easy to score 4s with field restrictions. A six can be hit at any moment. The time of play doesn't affect six hitting abilities. And yes Kohli doesn't hit.many sixes. He is not your typical hard hitter. But he compensates that with his brilliant placements of 4s, 3s, and 2s. You may not like his game for his lack of 6 hitting ability. And I guess nowadays, particularly in T20s, 6 hitting is only considered as the only talent one must need. But many love his intelligent game play.

How is Dhoni less than 1 for every result? At least one of the results happens more often than the average unless there deliveries where nothing happens?
@saoirsedeltufo74366 ай бұрын
From what he was saying, I'm pretty sure the dot ball one was inverted (below 0 means more likely) - if that's not true then I've got zero clue!
@TropicalPenguin246 ай бұрын
This is probably due to the scoring function not averaging to 1. Imagine that 75% of balls in the powerplay were 1s and 25% were 6s, and in the rest of the match 75% were 6s and 25% were 1s. Now consider a batsman who plays two balls, one in the powerplay for 6 and one in the rest for 1. The six in the powerplay would be happening 4x more often than expected, whilst the lack of sixes in the rest would happen 0x more often than expected, averaging out to 2. Same with the 1, so this batsman gets 2-2, and somehow is described as hitting more 1s and 6s than the typical batsman overall. A batsman who instead hits a 1 in the powerplay and a 6 in the rest would get 1.33x and 0x, and end up with 0.66 - 0.66 as his scores, and so gets described as hitting less 1s and 6s than the typical batsman overall. Of course, I can't be sure how Jarrod's scoring function works, but this is one possibility.
@lincolndethomasis66026 ай бұрын
@@TropicalPenguin24 thanks, that makes more sense!
@nooneknows196 ай бұрын
So what the graph tells us is that Dhoni was a below average 1,2&3,4 and 6 hitter for the balls he faces. Which is at the death. We inverted the dot ball so a lower ratio means that Dhoni plays more dots than expected in that period.
