How Beautiful it is You Exist ✨ (practicing self love & learning to embrace who I am)

Hello, beautiful you!
Something I have been trying to intentionally cultivate & grow in this season of life, is learning to fall in love with who I am & embracing my true, authentic self with open arms. My dad wrote me a poem for my 16th birthday over 11 years ago (in which I share at the end of this video), gently reminding me of my uniqueness & the gift of being me in this world. As is true of you, too. YOU are a gift to this world. May we recognize & embrace our uniqueness & the beauty that shines from within us & through our own cracks & scars. I love this quote from Brené Brown, she says, ‘True belonging never asks us to change who we are. It demands that we be who we are’. Let it be so. Let us lean into the gift of being our unique, intricately created selves & shine. ✨

I was just thinking about you yesterday and wondering when you would return. You are truly blessed to be so young and learn this huge life lesson You're ahead of the game. It took me 60 years to figure this out about self love and how unique we each are and to embrace that. To find the peace of mind and peace of heart of accepting ourselves just the way we are. It takes the burden off our shoulders, for we are not responsible for what others think or perceive. It can be a painful time, but when the realization sinks in, it's a freedom not to second guess yourself. It's to see yourself in a different light, to see that you are worthy just being you. It is so so hard, I so can relate to those feelings. Something I've done recently to help with that specifically was to tape up a picture of myself from childhood (I am probably 5-6 years old in the photo) onto my bathroom mirror. And now every time I look at myself & start to speak negatively, I look into her innocent, beautiful face and remember that I would never tell her that if she were standing right into front of me (and in reality she is!!!). I don't know if that would be helpful or not, but it has been for me so I thought I would share ♥

I have struggled all my life feeling worthless, and hating the way I look (I am 6ft tall, which is just one of the things I hate) and I hate the fact that I compare myself to others so much. It is like I have a mini devil in my head constantly beating myself up and saying negative things. I am not getting any younger and wish I could just let go and learn to love myself. I was out shopping for summer clothes today, which is something I dread doing as I hate having to expose more of my body in the summer, I actually felt like crying in the shop! I feel so silly as in the scheme of things looks really are not important and there are so many terrible things happening in the world right now that I feel guilty for worrying about such trivial things. Anyway long message sorry. Just I happened to click on your video when I got home from the shopping trip and it really hit the mark with how I was feeling, so thank you again and thanks for the suggestion re the old photo. I just watched your video and oh my goodness Randi this has to be my favorite you have done up to this point. I just find it so insightful with the heartfelt poem by your dad and of course the wonderful poetry of Mary Oliver. I had not heard "Love After Love" before and have made a copy of it. Wonderful poem about self reflection and acceptance of our unique selves. I also like the quote from Brene Brown about belonging and not changing who we are. I love this sooo much! Even at 53, I still care so much about what others think. Every day I drive in to work at 4am I say a prayer to God, please let me be my true authentic self, to allow myself grace if I screw up, and not care what others think of me.
