The amalgamation of madness and paranoia. These things gave me PTSD. I never knew what a bed bug was until about six years ago when my apartment became infested. Thousands spent on exterminators and treatments which did nothing. I once put some stuff into a storage container across town. I had a laptop bag inside an airtight tote which sat in that container for six months. I took it out one day to give that laptop to a friend, and there were still live bed bugs inside that bag. I was eventually able to conquer them using diatomaceous earth and isopropyl alchohol. But ever since then, every tingle I feel, every itch I feel, startles me awake and has me searching.

Agreed. I already suffer from the feeling of bugs crawling on my skin constantly. Bad Hayfever and allergies to cat and dog dander. While growing up with a cat older than my 7.5 year older brother. Plus also loving animals so it didn't stop me from shoving my face into them. Needless to say It was less common for me not to have hives. The one time I encountered bedbugs was by far the worst itch I have ever bloody had. I found them early by luck of I fell asleep for a nap in my hoodie and found them nesting between the zipper and cloth l little latter. I was away from home so I managed to be able to save my home. But dear God I didn't need to add to it. So you have my whole hearted agreement.

I haven't seen a single one or any signs of them for close to a year but I'm still traumatized by the little monsters and paranoid about it. People underestimate how easy it is to get them, and how difficult it is to get rid of them. It’s traumatic being scared of sleeping in your own bed or being constantly woken up by the bites and itch. The phantom itch also kinda lingers after they’re gone so you don’t even feel safe

I thought they were a myth until I stayed at a relative's house and was completely victimized by these little menaces. So much so that I was scared I had chickepox at 15 😅😅 I was covered in bites literally from head to toe and I never saw a single bug. Those bugs treated me like an all you can eat buffet, and they surely got their money's worth 😂

My mom brought them back from Jamaica and the following 6 months were the worst of my life. Didn't sleep more than 2-3 hours a night, waking up scratching myself bloody. One night I myself up scratching with 23 bites I didn't go to bed with, some on my eyelids. Mind you, they were like mosquito bites on steroids. Had to seal our mattresses and throw away all of our couches. 0/10 would not recommend.

I had these little fuggers for a while when I lived in the US. This was back before they become a major epidemic. Came in to our home on a bed frame we got from someone. Learned my lesson the hard way to never ever buy or accept used bed frames or bedding of any kind for any reason. Weird thing is one day they just up and vanished for no apparent reason.

A non-chemical way to get rid of bed bugs. Employ a few house centipedes. Bed bugs are their favorite. Among others like ear wigs, certain types of cockroach larva, mostly all arthropods. No damage to your home, and they don't bite. Yes, they look creepy. But they are a smart bug, very discrete.

Bed bugs are at least relatively harmless. They’re basically the oldest human parasite and because of this don’t transmit any diseases or parasites that are harmful to humans.

Food grade *Diatomaceous Earth* is a pet safe alternative way to stop a bed bug problem. Within a couple of days the active population will collapse and in 4 to 5 weeks all the remaining adults and eggs will no longer be a problem. Have fun and be safe Animalogic and friends

Its also very useful for getting rid of fleas! Sprinkle into carpet, wait awhile and then vacuum while playing loud music. Repeat every few days. Its also not recommended to directly apply diatomaceous earth to animals.

We had bed bugs last summer. It was awful. In addition to everything else we did, I had plastic encasements on our mattress. I read that bed bugs didn't like walking on plastic so I would sleep in the middle of my mattress with just a sheet over me. It really messed with my mental health.

Correction: bedbugs can live almost an entire year without a blood meal. There used to be a law in the US that all used mattresses, upholstered goods and bedding had to be sterilized before being resold. The lack of enforcement of this law has much to do with the current bedbug epidemic.

So modes of transportation (yes, even carpooling), movie theaters, used mattresses out for the trash that people will pick up and use, and hotels/motels are huge problems that contribute to their survival. I had bed bugs twice in my life. The first time was maddening, the second time was also maddening, but i did lots of experiments on the ones I caught. The longest one went without food was 90 days. They can go a few days completely oxygen deprived and dont seem to mind 1cm of water for the first day. They eventually drown, but that isnt for a couple days after the initial placement. These things are worthy of respect, BUT are not worthy to share a bed with me. My standards are a little too high for that. One thing I really admire about them, is their inability to spread blood borne pathogens. They're one of the few ectoparasites that actually have tact and manners... for the most part. I really love the diversity in the hemiptera order. Assassin bugs, shield bugs, giant water bugs and cockroaches all belong to the same order. Each wilder than the last. Also, can you pretty pretty please, do a video about horntails, specifically the pigeon tailed tremex, I absolutely adore those behemoth hymenopteran progenitors.

i’m very lucky to have never had a bed bug infestation, but i did have wasp, fly, flea, and ant infestations (at separate times. i lived in some janky places as a kid). it’s left me with permanent mental scars. it contributed to me developing psychosis and one of my delusions/hallucinations is that i have another infestation. luckily i’m doing better since i’m on meds and got to see a therapist. but it really messes with your mind

I had them guys. I managed to erradicate them with lots of vacuuming, cleaning and compressed air cans (use gloves, flip them and spray everything with the freezing liquid). Had to cover up every night when I went to bed, even my face. Stored clothes in plastic bags, even my laundry. Also spread diatomaceous earth on the floor. I’m glad they don’t transmit diseases.

Dealt with them multiple times while travelling between hostels. Remember even if you cover up everything they just end up giving you a hickey. When it comes to dwellings it's a bit like Alien - either you gotta kill the queen or burn the whole place to the ground. As for personal belongings like clothes, washing isn't enough, you have to put them into an industrial dryer at the highest setting, occasionally multiple times - and throw in a microfibre towel or two - whichever ones survive will cling onto the towels. Everything else you gotta be willing throw in the garbage.

I had bed bugs in my old house, I got rid of it by using diatomaceous earth powder and steaming my bed every night that gets to around 115-120 degree. Also wrap your bed with a bed protector, the one with a zipper. It took me about 4 months to get rid of it all by doing all of that and when you do those routine you might be able to sleep better.

I have the unfortunate situation of living in a super super cluttered house, with bed bugs, and a dad who is absolutely opposed to getting professional help of any kind under any circumstances unless it's something he is absolutely incapable of doing himself (like rebuilding a collapsed property wall or repairing a collapsed garage door). We empty a room of heat-affected items, blast the room with 140°F heat for 8 hours, and it keeps them in low numbers for a few months before they come back full force. A couple of our rooms, such as the family room, are so large and have so little insulation that we can't get them up to temperature even in the summer. I hate it.

I think most memory foam beds are resistant to bedbugs. I know Temper-pedic beds are. I've had some near misses with bedbugs. I also use food grade ditinatious earth around my home to keep ants and roaches out.

I have always had sensitive skin but after I got bit by two bed bugs it got so much worse. I can't use dryer sheets, fabric softener, most body wash (I use this fancy goat's milk soap that makes me sound like a snob when I talk about it), and some lotions/sunscreens will leave me with a sensitive rash for the rest of the day. I hate these things with a passion and am known for my "everything in the world has a purpose" mentality but would gladly Ctrl+Alt+Del them out of existence.

Bedbugs really don't seem to have any redeeming qualities at all! Unlike mosquitoes, I don't even think they are food for other animals, since they mostly live in human dwellings. So, they only rarely get eaten by spiders or centipedes, for example. I had itchy arms and legs for several months earlier this year because of these nasty things.

I had to deal with a infestation that took me 2 years and occasionally burning things they made into nest to destroy the monsters. In regards to bedbugs, I am very glad to live in Germany. I have never encountered any cases of bedbugs here, even in the hotels I have stayed in. Perhaps we arrange our homes differently, or the climatic conditions may not be suitable, I don't know. However, I have had fleas more often because I have cats that bring them home.

I don’t know where they came from, but my daughter and I had a wicked infestation about 6 years ago. Ruined everything. Books, a beautiful daybed, clothing, leather purses, EVERYTHING. I just wanted to set the whole damn house on fire. These things are from hell, no doubt about it. We took everything to the dump, baked the place with the heater on, for days, and did our level best to make life as hellish for them, as they’d made life for us. We got rid of them. But we also got rid of at least 50% of our belongings. Some stuff that wasn’t too badly infected, we put into plastic bags and stored for 6 months. That will usually starve them out. But that was only for certain items. We put them in storage, and took them out after the time expired. Seriously, watch out for these little bastards. I’m pretty sure we got them from a hotel in Sacramento. I saw a bug on the pillow, took it to the manager, and they just shook their head like “I dunno”.

I’ll never forget having bed bugs. It ruined my mental health and I couldn’t sleep. They take a huge toll in so many different aspects. Glad they’re gone but I never sleep anywhere without checking first anymore

I have had them twice, for 7 and 3 years, respectively. Both times, I got rid of them with a simple routine: 1) Change the linens once a week and heat treat the entire bed, down to the floor, and underneath, as well as the baseboards, with a heatgun. This looks like a hairdryer, but can peel paint, so be careful. 2) After the heat treatment, spray some "Ortho Home Defense Max Bedbug, Flea and Tick Killer" as directed, around the entire bed, including the sides of the bed itself. 3) Obtain an Ivermectin prescription from your doctor in the dosage of 1mg Ivermectin per 50lbs of bodyweight per every 5 days. So, a 150lb person would take one 3mg tab every five days. Everyone sleeping in that bed MUST be on this regimen for it to work. This medication is specifically to kill parasites, both internal and external. It is the first medication in one of the internal anti-flea and tick chewables for dogs. At the low dose shown here, there will be no side-effects, unless one happens to be allergic If EVERYONE in the bed follows these instructions, or sleeps elsewhere, and NOBODY goes near the bed after getting out of it and getting dressed, then this should rid you of bedbugs within two months, give or take a couple weeks. As I said, I have rid myself of them twice now, with a blessed interval of a couple years between infestations. One came from a hotel, the other from visiting a friend who didn't know another friend had brought them to her house.

@@SluttChops It took me that long the first time to figure out what worked, and then I had to convince my doc to prescribe, and get my husband to go along. When he died, I was finally able to get rid of them the first time. The second time, I had a very hard time getting the doc to prescribe enough for two people, long enough to work. When my current husband had knee surgery, and couldn't sleep in the bed for two months, I was able to be rid of them this time.

I know about living with someone who “can’t see them” or don’t think they are a problem. They can undo all your work! They don’t see any use in treating, and may bring things into your house that have been infested.

I hate bed bugs!!! I've encountered them once and it was so bad that I had to trash the living room furniture. I bought a steamer and have mattress covers for all the beds. They are hard to get rid of but not impossible.

I once had Bedbugs and exterminated them myself by first spraying my bed down in poison, vacuuming them a few hours later, spraying the bed again, washing everything on 60°C and then it was done. I also disassambled everything in my sleeping room and looked for any traces or eggs, vaccuumed them and sprayed the places excessively. The whole thing was a panic reaction and all the spray was most likely not exactly healthy for myself...

I recently (just a few weeks ago) dealt with a bedbug infestation in my apartment. Since I had never experienced bedbugs before, I didn't realize they were there until pest control noticed them while spraying for cockroaches. I was shocked since I never saw any, so I said, "No way!". Then the pest control guy pointed to one on my bed, saying, "What's that, then?" So, I picked up the tiny insect and squished it and there was blood all over my fingers! Later, I looked between my mattress and was horrified to find vast numbers of bedbugs! Well, that finally explained the mysterious itching I had been feeling on my arms and legs for the previous several months! Eventually, after several weeks, pest control fixed the bedbug problem! No more itching, yay!

I stayed in a hotel in Alabama. It smelled off, but it was an old hotel, so I didn't think anything of it. Woke up the next morning itching my ass off and there were red spots of blood all over the sheets. I knew nothing about them, so I still had no idea thats what happened.... Well it took a few months before I started getting bites at home. Some people don't even react to the bites so they dont even know they have them until they see one.... I reacted so strongly I got a couple skin infections and had to take antibiotics. It was so terrifying every night NEEDING to go to sleep but knowing they were waiting for me to go to sleep so they could feed. I got pretty bad insomnia from it. It took many months and a move but I eventually got rid of them 😮‍💨

Sometimes I regret eating lunch while watching Animalogic... but given the title, I realize I was asking for it. I have never found any evidence for bedbugs in my house. I never get secondhand furniture without checking it, and never soft furniture. But there was one, small, dead, unidentified bug I found under my pillow once. It haunts me. I continue to check regularly.

Very lucky to live in arctic Scandinavia. These little buggers are not that well-established her yet fortunately. My ex had them for like a year, despite 2 extermination attempts. It was far harder on her than me though, since I would not get noticeable bites/itching (she reacted severely to the bites, which led to alot of psychological damage).

My stupid ass nephew worked at some shitty motel chain and one day decided to take some covers/sheets for himself. Little did he know they had stowaways. Some of them migrated to my bed and HOLY FUCK I’ve never been so itchy in my life. Woke up nearly everyday with new bumps and felt like I was going crazy cause I would check my bed meticulously and never found any signs of them. Only proof was all the bumps and the fact that one of my hands swelled to about 2x its size -5/10 would not recommend

I never knew what they where beyond the rhyme, good night sleep tight don't let the bedbugs bite. Until I excepted a couch from my neighbor. It took 2 years of constant fighting them to finally get rid of them.

Been waiting forever for Animalogic's sketches to become available, and I'd love to see a wall calendar too! I used to work for a PR company that handled SC Johnson products like RAID and OFF. We were trained by their company's entomologists about blood meal insects, so creepy! (Pun intended, you're welcome!) Fleas are the hardest of them to completely get rid of. A video about fleas would be interesting. Fleas are attracted to blue light and the color white, like mosquitoes. I don't know why, but I guess maybe because they fed from bioluminescent animals(?) at night before humans were around. File this under stuff you don't expect to learn when in school for marketing.

You should do a piece on Beauveria bassiana next, an entomopathogenic fungus used for biocontrol of different arthropods, currently for outdoor crops to protect against things like thrips, whiteflies, etc (I ran into it looking up control methods for humpbacked phorid flies in my vermicompost system. ). It’s currently showing positive results in controlling bed bugs indoors.

I've had a minor bed bug infestation gotten from a friend's place that was undergoing major infestation several years ago. Good thing my itches were so bad that i managed to detect the problem early. Got myself isopropyl alcohol & bed bug insecticide & was lucky enough to have been able to deal with the problem myself, getting rid of the infestation within mere days without suffering any ill side effects. I'd even helped that friend deal with his infestation problem, but unfortunately, his was too damn serious to eradicate without professional intervention. All in all, i was lucky enough both to not having suffered psychologically after the ordeal, nor did such problems come back to bite me since. Yet, there's no doubt that i'd go into warring mode again, if i were to find these fuckers around in my place again.If there were to be any animal on the planet that i'd gladly have any higher powers that be drive to extinction, bed bugs would be at the very top of the list.
