Bhutan 🇧🇹 presents itself as peace loving, progressive and happy country and yet it does not acknowledge its dark history. Some three decades ago, BhutanBhutan 🇧🇹 presents itself as peace loving, progressive and happy country and yet it does not acknowledge its dark history. Some three decades ago, Bhutan
Created one of the biggest Refugees Crisis in the World when it exiled almost 1/6th of its population as illegal immigrant. Almost all of them were “The Lhotshampas”, the Southern Bhutanese, who were from Nepali Ethnicity. They had been living there for generations with peace and then they were all exiled almost overnight.
In this second part, we will look at what exactly happened inside camps, why negotiations between Nepal and Bhutan never prorgressed and what lead to the resettlement in third country.

I am a proud Lotshampa Bhutanese. Bhutan is my nation, the birthplace of my identity, provided me everything and made me who I am today. I am honored to be a Bhutanese. I represent Bhutan and I am always grateful for it. When I was young, I heard the stories of 1990 agitation from elders and it used to break my soul thinking about the living conditions of the Bhutanese refugees and their undying hope. Not that I wanted to develop hate for my country, but for the very fact that people deserved to know, understand the truth and acknowledge it. My own Bhutanese friends, relatives always had a misleading notion about the refugees because they believed in some manipulated history. However, brother, I salute and thank you very much for a thorough explanation that simply contained the facts. What happened cannot be changed, but we have control over what might occur in the future. I feel sorry for those who never received justice and are still holding out hope that they will return. But the truth shall prevail. I am really happy glad to know that the Bhutanese refugees are doing so well in abroad, giving their children the life they deserve after 20 years of struggle. Love and respect for them.

Sister, thanks for your kind words. Since I was a very little, I used to learn Dzongkha at school every day even after leaving Bhutan, we would sing National anthem of Bhutan at the assembly every morning. We would celebrate the national anthem of Bhutan as well by doing various kind of programs and we would sing and dance (( you know in what song?) the song would say, our mother nation is crying, but we will make you smile again, don’t cry. )). as a kid I always wanted to go back to Bhutan and live in our own home, and when the new king came, our hope was even more stronger and there was a rumour all across the camp that the new king would take us back to Bhutan, but it didn’t happen. And when our elders would tell us the story, the hope would fall apart because we could understand better than them about what happened and what the government did to us, and thought it’s impossible. Thousands of them died in Bhutan, some died under the plastic roof in Nepal while hoping that they would go back to Bhutan and die there. You know what? my own grandmother would see things that she did in Bhutan and would tell us to feed the cow which is in a back yard. and we would wonder what she’s talking about, coz there was no any cow. but my dad would say, her memories are coming back and imagining things and thought they are still real coz of her old age. Sister, whoever tells you the wrong story about this crisis, they are misinformed or simply they are wrong. We loved our mother land Bhutan, otherwise we would have never done anything I mentioned above! But now, I don’t care coz it’s been a while, 31 years. it seems like a story I once heard while back then when I was a kid. They did this to us because we were Nepali speaking Bhutanese ( on the basis of race religion and ethnicity)🇧🇹🫴🏻💔

I agree, Bhutan for Bhutanese, Nepal for Nepalese, India for Indians. When we follow this rule, no problem and conflict, but when we forget it than the problems begins due to conflicting culture, language and values, this is why there is Madhesi protest, Gorkhaland protest, and the Bhutan’s Nepali Ngolop problem. Let’s all stay within our borders please so that it doesn’t happen in future.

@@tenzinthinley9791 I agree about border issue, and everyone should remain within their border. But what I heard and researched on this case is different. In 19th century, all those Nepali people were INVITED by Bhutan government to populate the southern Bhutan for infrastructure development and agricultural development. Once everything was done as required and expected, you can’t just throw them out like trash too. They were born there, their grand parents were born there too. That’s their home after doing so much of farming and all that hardwork done to develop southern Bhutan.

Also When giving citizenship in 1958, it was clearly mention that anyone going against the king can have citizenship taken away, so nothing illegal have been done, all done within the Law which they agreed earlier. You are a thug and con artist that fooled the UNHCR to relocate you to western country, if what you claim is true which is hard to believe. There are some Nepalese people who had nothing to do with Bhutan and they are in America as "Bhutanese political refugee" 🤣. At the most you could be related to that Nepalese man on youtube in America who tells on video how he planted bomb under the bridge in southern Bhutan. He is relocated to America by UNHCR as refugee. I am sure you must seen it or it could you who uploaded that video. You protested against going to America? lol. People like you lie , cheat and cause harm against your own innocent naïve villagers to become refugee to relocated to western countries. You may fool the sympathetic westerners but we know what you are capable of. Hiding behind fake names to spread disharmony and hatred. Real Bhutanese people may want to or go to Australia or America but not under the guise as political refugees. They go legitimately and on their own merit not using fake causes. That's the difference between real Bhutanese and fake ones like you. If you are really in America then it is good news. Why? because you can't cause terror problems over there. The FBI, NSA and CIA will hunt you down and bomb your ass till the top of mount Everest, if you do. 🤣

That many many of the refugees also came to Darjeeling and our village as well but people here were also exhausted by the long civil unrest in the hill so they couldn't help much. And they told stories how the bhutanese army burned their houses killed their cattle and raped their woman. Those who could flee were the lucky ones only and those who couldn't no one knows what happened to them. @@tenzinthinley9791 They never used any violence against anyone. It was the Bhutanese regime who raped women and massacred the innocent Nepali farmers. The Royal Bhutan army even bulldozed and burnt the houses and schools and later blamed on the villagers. There is a detailed report issued by UNHCR. Micheal Hut writes in his book Unbecoming Citizens about all the atrocities committed by the regime. This was all systematic ethnic cleansing of Nepali Bhutanese or Lhosams as they like to call now. The most fertile lands where cash crops like cardamom, ginger and oranges grew only in southern Bhutan. All the land in the Southern part of Bhutan which belonged to the Lhostams were redistributed to the highlanders. The name of the places in Southern Bhutan were renamed in Dzongkha. This was all possible because of the with the help of Indian National Congress under Rajiv Gandhi. Look at how Rajiv Gandhi was blown into pieces by the LTTE. This type of atrocity is know as State sponsored Terrorism. Karma has its own way to get back, Bhutan is a pet dog groomed and raised by India. Bhutan has nothing to offer, no natural resources, no income. There is nothing unique and it is a beggar country. The leaders of Bhutan all go across the globe to beg for foreign aids and assistance. Btw, fact : Your so called God Buddha was a Nepalese Prince of the Shakya clan. If you want to argue state facts not pointless crap. Go back to a university and study geopolitics then come back for a debate.

As a Bhutanese, I applaud you for the amount of information you gathered for this two video series but many facts you stated are either wrong or not entirely true. The main reason this whole problem started was because of the growing population and power of Nepalis within the country which threatened the sovereignty of the newly founded country. With rising tensions with rebellions in the south and with them demanding their own independence, such actions had to be taken so as to protect the original citizens and sovereignty of Bhutan.

I was born in Bhutan and I love my country. Please talk about your own countries history. Just because we have similar languages doesn't mean we have to follow what the other countries follow.
