Most of my school teachers were Bhutanese refugees. They were very talented and knowledgeble. One of our teacher Indra sir used to recite his story that his house aagaan was big enough to play football with team of 8-9 player each. Our social studies teacher R.B Rai completed his bachelors degree in Bhutan before they ran away from Bhutan. Now. most of them resides in USA and i think are having very good life. They were really multitalented like good at sports, singing, art and craft, storytelling. They introduced Volleyball, Basketball, Leadership training, magazine writing and many thing which were completely new to us. I and all my school mates owe them so much as they have been huge part in making us who we are today. Their camp was at Beldangi, Damak which was 30 minutes walk from our school but had to cross river. They were well paid and could afford good lifestyle but were not allowed to have electricity, bank account, bike license, etc as that would make them look that they could afford quality life and donor like UN would not send donation as their basic needs like food, clethes, shelter, medicine, etc. Though many refugees were literally very poor and uneducated, they used to work in our field during paddy plantation and cutting. They were preffered one because of cheap labour and freindliness. My house was buit by all refugees thekedaar "maila badaa" and mistiriss. They are still in touch as most of them are abroad. The cinema hall next to my house used to get housefull most of the time(most audience were them) but after Bhutanese refugees has gone abroad, the film hall is shut down. They were very important to our towns market.I dont know what other think about them, but Some people like my teachers, those mistitis, workers uncle and aunty were so friendly. I know every of them by name. I miss them and feel good for them that after facing such humiliation all life, they are finally living a better life abroad.

As a Bhutanese refugee who was born and raised in eastern Nepal and now living in America, I have seen and lived the aftermath of this state sponsored ethnic cleansing of ethnic nepalis. My grandparents were from Panchthar Nepal who migrated to southern Bhutan in early 1900s. My parents were born in Bhutan. Having lived in a refugee camp for 14 yrs, I’ve seen some of the worst human sufferings but nowhere close to what my parents went through just for being ethnic Nepalis in Bhutan. Their traumatic experiences were passed down to us as a bedtime story. Stories I heard growing up were stories of their trauma. Stories of banning nepali language, burning of nepali books and library, murders of nepali teachers to burning villages, physical torture, killings, and rape. Their crime was, they were ethnic Nepalis. Bhutanese government must be held accountable for all these sufferings. What is needed is acknowledgment and accountability for these heinous crime of Bhutanese government. You can never pay back or undo what has already been done. Tremendous human sufferings, the massive psychological damage, undermining of our cultures and resulting refugee crisis that took away even more lives cannot be reversed. What can be done is acknowledgement of what has been done and public apology to all those who suffered at the hands of Bhutanese regime. I think this will bring tremendous peace within the hearts of those who suffered. Bhutanese government to this day denies any wrong doings and pride itself in being the most happy country in the world. You can’t kill, torture, rape and carry out a genocide that cleansed 1/6th of its population and call yourself the most happy country in the world. Bhutanese government has as much blood on its hand as that of hitler.

Did you want Bhutan to become another Sikkim for Nepalese origin people? That is basically what you guys are doing going around. Have some decency and let Bhutan survive its culture and religious traditions. When you go to another country, you respect and become part of that while retaining your own cultural and religious beliefs. You don't try to take over that country esp a small kingdom like Bhutan. Bhutan is not a country for immigrants like USA or some western countries that have colonized other countries. It is its own country that at times need outside population to work. That does not mean they have to be held in the same standard as powerful western countries. It is totally different.

@@bhoeshung You have the very wrong grasp of your own history buddy. Here is the history lesson for you. Ngalongs, who live mainly in the central and western regions of Bhutan, are of Tibetan descent; their ancestors arrived in Bhutan in the eighth and ninth centuries. The Ngalongs speak Dzongkha and follow the Drukpa Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism, which is Bhutan’s state religion. Bhutan’s king, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, is a Ngalong. The Sharchhops, who live in eastern Bhutan, are descendants of the earliest migrants to arrive in Bhutan; they are of Indo-Burmese origin, speak Tshangla (which is closely related to Dzongkha) and follow the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism. Together the Ngalongs and Sharchhops are known as Drukpas. The third major group, who differ greatly from the Drukpas in terms of culture, language, and religion, are ethnic Nepalis in southern Bhutan; they speak Nepali and are predominantly Hindu. So, get your facts straight.

If we could predict the future then King Birendra of Nepal would have surely appeased his son in some way so that he didn't feel his only option was to kill his parents, his siblings and himself. (If indeed Prince Dipendra did this - some people believe it was not him). But will we ever really know the whole truth behind the Nepali Royal family massacre? Yes, for sure we can be very thankful that today Bhutan is a peaceful and loving country. But maybe we also have to think of the misery, sorrow and pain that many people went through to get Bhutan into this peaceful and loving state today and put ourselves in the position of being Lhotshampa today. Remember they didn't choose to be born Lhotshampa. Actually, the truth can sometimes be hidden, but not forever and there are two sides to this story which need to be considered if we want to see it from a balanced point of view. One side is never usually absolutely right or absolutely wrong There are usually degrees of right and wrong and truths and non-truths on both sides.

In 19th century, all those Nepali people were INVITED by Bhutan government to populate the southern Bhutan for infrastructure development and agricultural development. Once everything was done as required and expected, you can't just throw them out like trash too. They were born there, their grand parents were born there too. That's their home after doing so much of farming and all that hardwork done to develop southern Bhutan.

Bhutan always had a fear of supression of growing Nepali Population in the south and another factor was illegal nepali migration and cross boarder marriage with Nepali of Assam and West Bengal. So the King was forced to chase them away with lot of reasons and this is the valid fact how much they try to hide the information. Today the country has once again restored its image as a peaceful nation and accepted this 25% of minority as their citizen. It's just like the partition of Pakistan and India but this one is bit serious as they had to stay in refugee camp of other nation unlike Muslims getting shelter in Pakistan and indian getting home in India. The third world accepted this refugees and now today they live in advanced part of the world like the US. Love you from bhutan great analysis brother

If what you said is true, then why does Bhutan currently have ministers, doctors, teachers of Nepali ethnicity? You my friend are misinformed, bhutan did not ban the Nepali language we still speak it along with the many other dialects like sharchop, bumpthap, kurtoep, and many more. We simply instated Dzongkha as the National language because it makes us distinct from any other nations. We also have a national dress which we have to wear for official work and educational institutions but that being said one is free to wear whatever at home in towns and villages. During this period there were certain intellectual people in the Nepali community with the thirst for power began to devise their plans for a separate state altogether. They wanted to abolish our kings, they confused and brainwashed ordinary Nepali people who then refused to identify with the national language and national dress, they used Nepali national dress and language to teach children protested and wanted democracy so they could put these leaders on top, burned down our flags, used violence. All our kings wanted was for all of us to stand together as “one nation, one people” so that we could secure sovereignty for ourselves and our children in the future and all times to come. Unfortunately those that refused to abide had to be kicked out because it was leading to instability(could have become civil war) through which larger nations could use as an opportunity to destabilize and take over the whole country.
@timekillerinfotainment8692 жыл бұрын
What he said is true. Many left the country. And the motive was to minimize the growing Nepali Population of south. And mind it only people from urbanized areas like Gelephu, Sarpang, Samtse, Phuentsholing etc were chased because they were at the access point. Another was to instill a fear in people of bhutan regarding these people. They were successful in both the situations. The population that was 40% of bhuatn's mainstream people got minimized to 25% and this 25% are kept happily with equal opportunity as they are minority now.

And for your information, today we have Lhotshampa's holding position like Ministers, Engineers, Doctors, Teachers, Actors, Singers and many more who are loved and respected by every Bhutanese. Well, commendable effort you have put in to research on this topic. After listening all , i realised our leaders have done everything in their means to keep the flag of Bhutan soaring high in the clouds to this day. A tiny country much smaller than Nepal in size and population standing as a sovereign with her own identity is something remarkable. Unfortunately , during those same years , The King of Sikkim could not hold his power and his sovereignty as us. Off course, Nepali immigrants are largely responsible for the loss of their independence. Anyway, today we have a entirely different environment and social ambience that we call ourself as a Bhutanese. Too much diversity for a small nation is threat to its sovereignty. It's like Chinese or and Indian in Singapore consider themselves as Singaporean alone, not to their country of origin.So we believe in the ideology. Furthermore, it's sad to know that Nepalis, in the same years could not protect their own King who has sacrificed so much their Kingdoms existence. A Nepal under their king would have been completely different from what she is today.

Before, administration/legislation office was controlled by one caste, now everyone can lead. It is better to have bad PM for 5 year than having one king for rest of our life. Nepal during kingdom, only some caste/community got better benefit than rest of Nepal, there were a lot of discrimination based on class/caste/religion. I don’t know much about Bhutan and their king. *THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STORY* Because this video just depicts one side of the tale, let me tell you the whole thing. The crisis of this so-called cleansing occurred only because of an uprising or revolt. All the country sought to do was establish a national identity. This was extremely important to the country since Bhutan was a landlocked country sandwiched between two enormous countries, India and China. Bhutan voted to make Dzongkha the official language and Gho/Kira the national dress. There was no violence of any kind. People chose to depart because they were dissatisfied with the goal of unifying the country. During that time, the authorities employed no violence and there is no record of any harm being done. People began to rebel against the government, creating organizations and plotting assassinations of Bhutan's leaders. People began destroying property because this specific group of people desired independence. I won't even call this particular group Nepalis since it would be generalizing about the Nepali ethnicity. Because of their revolt, these people were compelled to leave the nation or make a decision. Your grandfathers and forefathers would never tell you what they did or why they were ordered to leave. They will only share their side of the story, which includes the fact that they were forcibly ejected out. The country only did what was best for their people, or for the majority of the population. It was never intended to target persons of Nepali ethnicity. I am a Nepalese who is still in Bhutan. My grandparents were honored by the government and passed away in Bhutan. Many of my friends and relatives are still in Bhutan. Why did they stay if every Nepali ethnic group was being targeted? Simply put, they believed in the country's ideal of remaining united in the face of adversity. Today, the country is ruled by numerous individuals known as Lhotshampas who are of Nepali origin. They are in charge of corporations, agencies, and the government. Stop focusing on only one side of the story. At some point in time, ask Bhutanese individuals who stayed in Bhutan about this period. "establish a national identity" "goal of unifying the country". Bro what are you on about ?? It's called ethnic cleansing. It's what the Nazi Germans did with Jews. It's what China is doing with the Uyghurs people. Systematically segregating people who don't align with the native people's culture & tradition. It Doesn't matter if Bhutan used less violence than other regimes. You can't simply justify it. What's wrong is wrong. All these native bhutanese getting triggered over this subject just proves how far they are from facing the truth. All those years of government Propoganda has clearly dull your mind.

@@pocoloco1488 Bro, you can’t go on against a whole country. Yes, 1/6th left, but the remaining 5/6th remained. wtf are you talking about cleansing when all you are is biased towards what happened to you. You guys rebelled and revolted proving a threat to the security of the country. Even I’ll do that if something happened to my house as well. And i know for a fact, you will do the same. Secondly, I would like to know how is it cleansing? People from your background still do exist and contain almost 1/3rd of the country’s population. Why weren’t they chased away? Why did they stay if all the country wanted to do was what the Nazis did? Why are these people leading the country today? Why are they executives, ministers that make up the government? Don’t be aggressive towards an experience. ‘Unifying the country’ and ‘Identity of the country’ matters to us Bhutanese. That is why we are in the country and you’re not. You did not believe in it and revolted thus asked to leave. Anyways we don’t care what you think about Bhutan not being happy or stable. You guys are a minority, not even 1/10th of the people who admire Bhutan for its beauty. Of course you will write hate against the country, you were unsuccessful in your mission. I suggest you read once before writing bogus shit. I don’t know about the rest, but I am glad that at least you don’t live here cause with that mentality of yours, you definitely don’t deserve Bhutan. Cheers mate. You sound just as stupid as your name sounds.

Hello Jimmy. My goal is not to create controversy or gain cheap publicity and I would have loved to hear stories from people living in Bhutan specially those who are from Nepali Origin. Maybe the situations are better now and Lhotshampas are treated better now. But you do agree that those 1/6th, whom you call rebels or plotting against the country, were Bhutanese Citizen. But lets say you are right. Say, the video I made is one sided, and they deserved to be cast out of country. If that is the case, then acknowledge the fact. It is not ethnic cleansing, it is just getting rid of rebels who were against Bhutan. Why does Bhutan still deny it? Accept it. I do not have any personal agendas against Bhutan. It's not my country and if the present Bhutanese are happy with it, then thats what ultimately matters. But it can atleast accept that for whatever reasons, it did threw away its citizens and maybe a better solution could have been chosen.
@jimmyngedup38512 жыл бұрын
@@TheNepaliComment We never deny it. Ask any Bhutanese citizen and we will infact agree with the fact that yes, some people did leave the country in the earlier periods. However i should also mention that from the 1/6th of the population that left bhutan, almost 60% of them left on their own free will. They did so because their family was leaving. The rest 40% were rebels. Bhutan never tried to impose strict rules to the people for the benefit of its ruler. Whatever happened or imposed was for the benefit of the country. Talk to any present day Bhutanese anywhere and they will never tell a tale of something bad about Bhutan and its rulers. Out of the 8 Lakh population in Bhutan currently, I assume at least there should be 10 citizens who should have an opposing view right? Out of the 8 Lakh, if it was ethnic cleansing as suggested by an earlier comment? In good thought of mind, nothing personal, For your part 2, i would like you to take up this challenge and interview at least few different groups of people, your preference who are current citizens of Bhutan and who have gone through the phase of this cleansing, that you so say. If not, I would not mind to get you flown over here, with full sponsorship, to see and experience the reality on your own. What better way to make a part 2 right?

@@jimmyngedup3851. Brother, thanks for your comments. Of course we want to hear both sides of the story. I am neither Nepali nor Bhutanese, but I would like to learn more about this situation. You are asking not to be aggressive and yet your comments seem aggressive and highly charged to me. In my experience, anger and aggression raises ones emotions and can cloud ones judgement which rarely solves a problem. Surely we can have a civilised and balanced conversation on this subject without aggression and hateful comments. I would suggest this to both sides of the debate. Each has a right to his own opinion and maybe each side has knowledge that the other side does not have. Perhaps each side can learn some things from the other.

Padmasambhāva ("Born from a Lotus"),[note 1] also known as Guru Rinpoche (Precious Guru) and the Lotus from Oḍḍiyāna, was a tantric Buddhist Vajra master from India who taught Vajrayana in Tibet (circa 8th - 9th centuries).[1][2][3][4] According to some early Tibetan sources like the Testament of Ba, he came to Tibet in the 8th century and helped construct Samye Monastery, the first Buddhist monastery in Tibet.[3] However, little is known about the actual historical figure other than his ties to Vajrayana and Indian Buddhism.[5][1] .

Gorkha Kingdom at its greatest comprised mainland Nepal, Kumaon-Garhwal province in North India in the west to the Teesta River in the east, today in the Darjeeling hills. Ever since, the land has been receding. Owing to this, today our Gorkha community faces identity crisis in our respective countries as well as among ourselves. We have been in so much decline that today, to buy anything relating to our culture, we have to buy from non-Gorkhas. We are slowly enslaved by outsiders in our own land and definitely burn out from human History. Where is the Jai in 'Jai Gorkha'?

@@Hardik.Lohani For an even bigger picture, look at the Soviet Union and Russia. All the previous Soviet Republics had differing ethnicities, culture and ways. Just like Kumaon-Garhwal differing from Mainland Nepal then or East Nepal being significantly different from West Nepal or Darjeeling hills differing from Mainland Nepal. . Today those previous Soviet Republics are different countries but have the connecting link due to past events. You can whine about it, turn away but that was how it was. We are at a similar situation. It's not about hatred or who did what to whom. Read my previous comment carefully cause there I talk about how those Gorkhas and their legacy is of no use to the current Gorkha population because we have fallen from grace. I did not intend to offend you, it's me talking of our fall and not bitching about you. . If history would have played out any different, we'd be talking differently about these events, but it is what it is. . Relax I'm from India too. I love Uttrakhand. Spent 4 wonderful years there. Kumaon-Garhwal is no far from heaven. Peace

Those who says they’re pure Bhutanese and have mother tongue as Dzongkha they’re Tibetan refugee as They came down to Bhutan and came in power,make their language as National language before that Bhutan don’t have official language and as of now with Indian influence that day is not so far when Hindi became Bhutan official language and Bhutan just a state of India.

Bhutan is not an Hindu country like Nepal nor an economic power like Bangladesh. So, why would we make Bhutan as a state of India when it is already respecting India's sovereignty and supporting India's national interests. And by the way Nepal is the one who getting influenced by Hindi.

Great topic to be noted Those Nepalis who returned to nepali in late 90s are not being driven away or forced to live bhutan . They were the one who were turning back to becoming one people one nation, which means following same tradition wearing gho and kira as national attire but its mystery though. The then king was very farsighted and when he tries to put one nation one people into action they said not to adhere and leave I'm lnotshampa too residing in the southern bhutan.
