You and your guest made some excellent points yet again. I appreciate when people try to stick to the data and avoid falling victim to the common arguments from either side. If I'm not mistaken, Professor Fryer found that Black men were more likely to have *force* used against them (20-25 percent more likely?), but not more likely to be shot when unarmed? I believe Coleman mentioned that in an article he shared. People seemed to think Mr. Fryer was saying there was NO bias in policing, but he never said they don't pull over Black people more, profile them, etc. and did say they had force used against them. He simply said they weren't more likely to be shot by police. I am far from an expert on the subject but have some thoughts. For starters, I really appreciated your point about some publications not reporting the race of the people involved in the Kyle Rittenhouse attack. While I saw some people report the race of the people who chased him, I got annoyed when other publications conveniently left that out. Given what was happening at that time and what people were protesting against, it wasn't surprising that many people's natural assumption was that those who Rittenhouse ended up shooting were Black. That was incredibly dishonest to not mention that they were not Black, and I suspect the majority of these publications knowingly left out that information to push a certain narrative. That is incredibly frustrating. Leaving out important information is messed up and breeds distrust with those publications in the future. I've seen similar things from some right-leaning publications as well when it fits their narrative. Withholding information that provides important background or claiming things about perpetrators of crimes or their victims that clearly weren't true (a shooter was a devout Muslim, a shooter was transgender, etc.) is exasperating. I appreciate people like you who try to avoid dogma and partisanship at a time when partisanship has made smart people act like fools. Another thing about race in America in general is that so many of these discussions only involve White and Black Americans. While those discussions make sense in some situations, the country has become a lot more diverse in recent decades. There are a higher number of Latinos, Asians, etc. and Native Americans were often and still often are ignored altogether. There are a lot of multiracial Americans too. Therefore, when people only focus on White and Black disparities when it comes to victims of violent crimes or other things in society but ignore people from other groups, it can sometimes lead us to the wrong conclusions.

just want to comment about the part of the video round the 7 minute mark. Coleman was talking about people assuming Kyle shot three black people when reading/seeing media reports. He stated that this was because the reports mentioned Kyles skin colour but not the people he shot, so left it ambigious. I think he missed the further possibility that the media article would have mentioned that it was at a black lives matter rally, probably in the same sentence that they mentioned white Kyle; so "white Kyle shot three people at black lives matter protest". Perhaps media viewers associated the word 'black' with the protesters on a subconscious level as white is already mentioned to describe Kyle, leaving a requirement to have a skin colour to describe the three protesters. So because viewers expected a skin colour described for protesters, they implicitly used the first colour word mentioned - 'black'.

Actually, the "knee on neck" was taught as an approved "non-lethal" restraint meant to protect the officers, the public and, this may be difficult to believe, but the suspect. Minneapolis PD Use Of Force report covering, I'm not exactly certain on the exact dates, 2012-2019 cited hundreds of times the restraint technique was used and approximately 50 suspects were rendered unconscious. In the case of a fatality there's usually some health/medical contributing factor. The police aren't being callous but rather expecting the best outcome for the suspect. The determination of whether to use the restraint is based on the suspects actions and perceived state of mind. This has sadly, but as expected, not been a perfect procedure for resistive suspects. The upper management, unions and training programs should be on trial, not the officers.

5:47 he's doing the exact same thing he claims the news media was doing. He wasn't poised to attack with a knife. They saw him slowly walk over reach into his car. They didn't know what he was doing and they shot him. Now you can say it was justified unjustified or whatever but he's adding all kinds of flavor to it. He's making it sound like the guy brandished a knife and struck a battle pose.

@15:00 I don't understand this logic first he says look at the percentage black representation in violent crimes? Which is actually very misleading because what crimes are consider violent? Rape, Home invasion, Assault, Assault with a deadly weapon, Domestic Violence (most dangerous offense for officer safety) none of those crimes are considered violent? Only murder (the rarest crime about .1% of America crime) and robbery. So shouldnt the police be more cautious or quick to use force on the criminals that the cause the most crimes? There are more white criminals than black ones due to sheer population. Out of the 8 million crimes committed yearly over 6 million are white.
@davagevorriose80462 жыл бұрын
What's a good source that shows the claim that blacks are not shot/killed by people disproportionally? Is it because Zac is claiming against "rates at which police officers are shot" instead of against population? I'm not going to sit here and defend anyone, of either side, but I'd like to see the actual data, you know?

In terms of interactions with police, black people have far more of them, so are in fact less likely the end up deceased.

If you look at violent crime data and police interaction numbers, black people are far less likely to be shot by the police.

Roland Fryer is one. Also the WAPO data base on deaths by police shootings. Last I checked there’s a slightly higher number proportionally, but after accounting for the amount of violent crime in an area, 9-15 unarmed African Americans out of 50 or so is not all that huge.
@purdysanchez2 жыл бұрын
@@TheRancor53, generally the classification of "unarmed" doesn't even take into account resisting arrest and assaulting the police. So in many studies it is misleading.

Take away the billions/trillions of the Government programs. The Evil Offshore Corporations don't care about Black LGBTQIA Women. We still live in a predominantly White Christian country. But if you look at the Movies & Commercials, you would never guess it. You remember when we had a bunch of Native Americans in the movies & commercials? Native Americans are still living the awful conditions. It seems nobody cares anymore. So what has happened?!

He wants to compare race of people who kill cops and race of people killed by police. But, I imagine if someone kills a cop, they aren't necessarily killed. They may get away or they may be jailed later. Likewise, if a copy kills someone, that cop isn't necessarily killed. It makes more sense to look at how often each racial group "interacts" with police. And, we know poor people and nonwhties are POLICED more than the rest of us.

It maybe true statistically. But more important is the human reality. The White is in power of the US government in general, police, court, law-making etc. Hence there is no need for a general society mobilization for a serious problem against White. The affecting person and his/her friends and family-members etc. can use the normal process, especially their votes, to handle it (like Police Brutality). On the other hand, the mistreatment of Minority is build-in Democracy and human nature, especially in the case of Black for historical reason. So extra effort is needed to correct that (so the idea of Affirmative Action). I am especially grateful, as a minority Chinese-American, to all the White People supporting BLM. This is a very honored effort to overcome nature-born self-interest. However, a Black person brave enough to criticize the BLM and a white Scientist standing up for the FACT are also part of the great strength of OUR Society. :)
