Ok so basically my theory for these trees is that 300 million years ago when trees first had the ability to make wood,there was no fungus to rot the trees they were basically indestructible it took 43 million years for a fungus to form and these trees actually don’t rot like the ones 300 million years ago.also the ones back 300 million years ago were WAY different.but they could’ve evolved.we never know.

Out of Oakhurst, which is a wee south of Yosemite Park South entrance , is a Redwood Graveyard. Many of the old pics of men cutting these Giants down come from this once proud grove. *Sequoia not redwoods. They are cousins, but not the same. Redwoods are the tallest trees on Earth. Sequoia are the largest by volume. The Grove you’re referring to is Nelder Grove. Out of the nearly 9 million Giant Sequoia that used to naturally grow in California, there are around 20,000 left.

And redwoods when cut often have a pinkish maroon color heartwood that remains when dried. Sequoia have a very faint purple tinge that turns dark brown when dried. They are related in name only. Sequoia being Sequoiadendron giganteum, and redwoods being Sequoia semperviren (being given the Sequoia title because confused people called it that all the time anyways). Redwoods have a deep maroon colored bark under a brownish gray exterior, while Sequoia have a vibrant rust color. Because of the color bark, most people call them redwoods simply because they are unaware of the distinction. And attempts to legitimize the redwood name for Sequoia by some scholars have been refuted multiple times by the science and Arborist communities.
