@@TheLiamster Not surprising when the Netherlands and certain portions of the EU in general actually focused on the safe but efficient passage of humans and human powered vehicles over the obnoxious infatuation of motor vehicles that the states has -- at our rate we're like 50 - 60 years behind the Netherlands in this aspect even with the push for bicycles as result of the pandemic.

I work at a bike shop for fun and also a main e-bike company. Everyone thinks this is great and that they are so lucky but in reality it's not at all. We sold 2200 bikes a month while before about 300 to 400. Problem is, bikes and parts are almost impossible to get now after the 3rd month of Covid. Now shops are going under because they have nothing else to sell nor can they work on bikes for service because due to lack of parts. Another thing is trails and roads are completely overcrowded now while these new riders are not learning the rules of the road. It's starting to become a major issue.

Local government does nothing to promote the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists. In St Petersburg, hardly any bicyclists have a legally require warning device, a bell, horn or buzzer. E-bikes use the sidewalks. Police are nowhere to be seen until they come to restore traffic flow after an accident.

Only the huge corporations, with gov hand in the pockets, (Doug Ford, Deco Labels). (Gettting rich off all covid floor and wall stickers) for one example. Bicycles are great ! Bicycles, ebikes and escooters are great options for last mile, short distance travel. Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles by providing safe, protected bike lanes and trails. Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly. Bicycles are healthy exercise and fossil fuels free transportation. Electric bicycles are bringing many older adults back to cycling. Ride to work, ride to school or ride for fun.

Very true. As a friend to 3 other friends that own bike shops in my surrounding area, all have been totally affected by inventory and excessive bike repairs. Parts are hard to come by as well as the waiting process takes longer than usually through their distributors. Most of the bikes shops in my area are pinned and back logged with previous bike owners needing repairs for their bikes. 4 weeks to a month is the average wait time to get your bike repaired; this included parts if they can find them. It's been tough on everyone...

there are still "vintage" bikes out there that can be easily re-upped: for quite a long time period, bikes featured 6-8 speeds on the back, rim brakes, and so forth. It isn't rocket-science to replace parts, and there are many good youtube vids (I highly recommend the "rj the bike guy" series). Might seem daunting if you're new to it, but your learn quickly.

In my city, St Petersburg, FL, USA, there is a bike store, which, by the way, has a recent youtube video that does not allow comments. I visited the store and bought a minor part, a master-link pair. I also visited another bike store in my city. My general impression is that they are not "stores" but may be more properly called "boutiques." For example, bicycle helmets are priced at about $100.00. I paid over $6.00 for a chain link that I could have purchased in a hardware store for about $4.00 in a package of two links. Other bicycle items were similarly, premium priced. Their customers, in the boutique during my visit, were well dressed and middle-aged. The clearly did not use a bicycle for transportation, but for pleasure or sport. I think that, in America, today, bicyclists are either hobbyists, students, or very poor people who use it to carry all their possessions on the rear carrier-rack and basket. They are not average, middle-class, adult Americans. As we, as the people of an imperial, militarized nation become poorer, more of us carry what we have left on our rusty bicycles.

21st century in arguably the most technologically developed nation, and we can’t get a domestically produced bicycle accomplished during a time when unemployment is surging? Incompetence? I doubt it. Sounds more like greed.

It would be way too expensive to build a completely American bicycle. Perhaps 10 times more than one made on China, including shipping.
@RLICGNT
@RLICGNT 3 жыл бұрын
Walter Dayrit By that logic, I wonder how we build cars in America? I agree that it would be more expensive on the production side of things, initially at least, but the overall advantages to our economy in terms of employment and lessening dependence on foreign nations would far outweigh the disadvantages. Let’s be real... moving production overseas is only advantageous to the wealthy. That money saved just makes the rich richer. The average citizen benefits little.

The used bike market is enjoying a surge too where it exists. Here in the Philippines we usually get used bikes from Japan, still in good working order, and there's never been a time where every shipment that arrives gets eaten up quickly.

As many others said, LBS haven't kept up with demand. I wanted to purchase a new Giant TCR & was quoted May or June of 2021 before they have stock. Wanted to buy a new MTB for my wife, also was quoted June or July before they'll have the model we want in stock.

I'm sure that the Covid environment has changed many elements of our lives forever but lets revisit this subject late in winter especially after a vaccine has been distributed. These businesses will be hurting because many adopters will be tired of being cold and wet during their commutes. FB market place and Ebay will be saturated with bikes.

Not only in USA. Even in India demand jumped four fold. Especially luxury bicycle. Which range from 500 $ to 2000 $ in India. People have to wait for 1-2 months to get the bike of their choice.

I rebuilt all of my bicycles and bought a hard to find signature model and it came magically in about a few weeks. But, Simi Valley isn't LA, it's in Ventura County. and so many bikes are made in China and Taiwan so how about a story about how not only their conflict will affect the supply chain but how trade with China is affecting our national security.

It's awesome that everybody is running at a bike. But as everybody is making this money let's not forget the little people that cannot afford $1000 bicycles. And I'm really firm I'm getting rid of derailers et cetera And go for the push with gate belt drive and pinion. Less waste in the long run. Hardly any maintenance. State bicycles are great company I don't have one yet but alotta my friends in Portland Oregon do and I've never heard a bad thing...Bravo

Do you know how this spike was for people who already are fanatic bike anything’s? I want to say I am a above average mountainbiker, I race and love to ride as difficult to ride as possible tracks with some big drops and jump all as fast as possible, that means I break stuff regularly, wheels, clothes, helmets, spokes, rims, tires, derealised hangers, brake pads, lots of cables, chains, and a lot of other stuff,not to forget sometimes myself. But with the increase of the market all online shops and normals shops alike are sold out, Now I sometimes search for hours online to find a normally not so hard to find item. But it is all worth it to see the community grow

$400 for a city bike? Here in the Philippines that equates to 20,000 pesos, that's a HUGE amount of money here, that's equivalent to a month of salary. Bikes like those, we call it Japanese bikes, only cost here around 3,000 pesos all the way 5,000 pesos or $60 to $100.

I am in Indonesia, experiencing same events. Bicycle demands so high, already put my name on waiting list for the last 3 months but still don't get the bikes. In here, Polygon is the favorite brand for entry level bikes. Unfortunately, if I am not patient enough I have to pay 20 - 40 percents more from retail price for same bike at secondary market.

It has sucked working during this time. Huge demand and people getting mad at me for bikes we just can’t get. Some popular bikes are now on back order till April. It’s pretty much impossible to find a 24” kids bike or any adult bike under $1000. So if you looking for a bike these days it’s slim pickings so your going to have to drop your expectations or your going to have to wait a long time
