As an Amazon Flex driver, i've had occasions where the time stamp on a package (we get delivery by time on all packages) was ridiculous, where GPS said it would take me 20 minutes to get to the stop but the time stamp said I had to be there in 10 minutes or the package would be considered late. I would then get an email from amazon saying that, in effect, i need to do a better job at delivering packages on time. That creates a dangerous situation for drivers.

As a former Amazon driver, worked for a DSP, I kept getting more and more packages to the point where it would be physically impossible to deliver them if I took my “obligated” 30 minute break (it’s obligated but you’re also told to take it while driving or while delivering) like imagine being given 200 packages and without including the time it takes to: drive to address, find adequate parking, turn off the car, take off seatbelt, jump in back, search for package in a sea of 20 other packages in a big delivery bag, and then walk across yards (yes on grass, we all hate ppl that have signs to not step on grass, since it’s always the most direct route to your door) and walk back and get the car going again Let’s say ALL of that took 3 minutes, that’s 10 hours of the same thing without including a bathroom break or time to decompress or relax your joints (try jumping off a 2 step height 200 times, it’s killer on knees and ankles) or even eat in peace. People don’t realize that they don’t need more breaks, they need more workers, better pay to attract new workers and keep the ones they have, and strict limitations on how many deliveries they can do per day cause there’s no point of having an “obligated” hour long break (1 30 minute and 2 15 minutes) if the worker feels obligated to keep working through it in order to not fall behind and get written up 🤷🏻♂️

I used to work for Amazon and they constantly overworked employees. The promise of fast shipping came at the expense of our health as we had to sort several packages continuously throughout our standard 10 hour shift. A work union didn’t exist either at our facility and this made our working conditions harsh and dangerous. I’m in my 20s and for sure those medical benefits exist for a reason. On the daily older employees would wear braces, not for preventative measures but for recovery. It’s unfortunate that Amazon puts so much pressure on its employees as a direct result of attempting to increase its output for $$$.

I honestly wish they'd have some better "slow" options. I don't need tube socks same day. No rush shipping is fine, but often shows up late because you become low priority. I don't mind waiting, but I do want it the day they say. Three day delivery would be fine for most of my stuff.

I'm in a major metro area but I've found "Amazon Day" delivery to work probably 90% of the time (and usually there's some tangible incentive for choosing this option or a no-rush option). The 10% of the time when it doesn't work is as you said: late delivery.

You make a good point Amazon needs to set up a department whose job it is to contact complex owners of any type of gated community after a single delivery has been made to set up automatic protcalls to ensure vetted drivers and employees have access with no problem. There isn't a gate code at some apartment buildings, and people who live there just use their key cards to enter. The screen with a "code entry" at the front of the building you may see is just a way to dial someone who lives there so they can beep you in, but no way to enter a code to open the door. It seems like the regular FedEx, UPS, and USPS drivers may have access to the building, but since the Amazon drivers are just seemingly random without an everyday route, I guess the apartment giving them access cards is way more difficult

But it wasn't 2x anything. It was actually 1/250 x transportation. You are considering 2 separate vehicles being driven by 2 different people and making 2 different trips to your home. When the USPS mailman brings you a piece of mail they are not making a special trip for each individual envelope. Neither is Amazon.

Something they’ve gotta work on is their intake of items. I’ve had multiple times where the wrong item was delivered, because somebody put the wrong ASIN label on it. Once it was just the wrong variant of an item. Not a big deal that time. But this last time, I had ordered a $8 spray bottle of Rain-X. But got a $70 box of “The Right Stuff” gasket maker tubes. Not a huge problem really for me, as that can be useful. But a mechanics shop could’ve easily abused that fulfillment center to order a couple years’ supply of that stuff for a fraction of the cost.

Watching Amazon's warehouse efficiency is kind of like watching cutting edge military technology. Simultaneously horrifying and amazing at the same time

Reading about this in the comments, she doesn't seem to be aware of the harsh working conditions that many people go through. Just by reading some comments here about people working for Amazon, you can easily get a grasp of how it is to work there and how poorly they are handling this "fast, faster, fastest" situation.

shipping rates are too fast and people need to relax. you don’t need amazon prime. i don’t have prime and delivery is usually 3-4 days. still really really fast.

I agree. If we are too late to need something delivered same or next-day, we could have it ordered before. Say, when the bottle is 2/3 empty already.

I'm a Prime member and half the time I use same day delivery, it gets delayed 1 or 2 days. Why am I still subscribed if I in being lied to? 😑

Why does my product start in a warehouse in the state I live in, then travel across the country, and then come back to my state to be delivered to my home?

Last time I ordered a CPU from Amazon it was delayed SEVEN DAYS on the day it was supposed to be delivered. Explain how Amazon didn't know that would happen? I also ordered a LG 42" OLED and got a Samsung 43" LCD.

When they rolled out the ‘same day delivery’, I thought they were crazy. I imagined workers must have been pushed hard for it.

I just be happy if Amazon could actually deliver my package to my house and not somewhere else. I love when I get the photo of it being delivered and I don’t even recognize the house. And before anybody says anything yes, my house is clearly marked with the address.

"We don't know what the limit is!" as they smile. I'll tell you what the limit is lady - Telling your drivers to deliver a package in 15 minutes when a GPS says it will take 25+ minutes to get there at the speed limit...Hmmm...I wonder what that is going to cause? Amazon prioritizes the delivery time of packages VASTLY more than the safety of their drivers. This behavior exists in warehouses as well. They NEED TO BE CALLED OUT FOR IT!

A problem with this kind of immediacy is that people then tend to expect it to be the norm in everyday life situations. Life 'wants' aren't on demand.
