@Silverwidows2 жыл бұрын
the fiat money system uses way more energy than crypto does, so an argument could be made that as technologies in green energy get better over time, the less stress on the environment could occur switching from fiat to crypto. You're never going to get green with mining gold, printing money and building sky scrapers used for stock markets and industries around them. Crypto on the other hand, the energy can be sourced from geo thermal, wind, solar and tidal, and as those technologies get better, cheaper, less destructive to the environment, the better for the planet, even if crypto is using allot of energy.
@lPOTCl2 жыл бұрын
based on your logic since there is a 50% profit atleast on that energy being spent to make a btc. every store that makes 7-12% profit using electricity for their buildings full of electronics using electricity all day without being used more than a few times, should be shut down. does the fed use green energy when printing money? do the banks use green energy when doing all their online transactions? by your logic we are living in some utopia world when actually there are many problems to be fixed not only financially but in own governments all over the world. we already spend so much and get little in return for the richest people in the world to make and control all the money at this point anything to change that will be better.

Crypto has solidified to me that we intentionally make life "as complicated and inefficient as possible" and that you can make anything be money if multiple people agree to it. I really don't see how crypto has resale value, or actual use, like what is stopping companies from just saying they won't accept crypto as a payment type and if you haven't cashed out then you essentially have a bunch of made up worthless asset's. But money itself is made up and worthless. I just wish we could focus on lifting up the poor working families, if we lift up the lowest income and standard of living people, it would benefit the entire society and economy. The cost of living compared to the average person's income is so unbalanced and essentially could create a cascade issue of people not being able to pay their month to month bills that they are already struggling greatly to keep up with the lowest level of living costs in modern society. (I'm talking mostly America here)
@benweya2 жыл бұрын
What would make us all agree something is money. If its a person or a group of people, that's too much power and too much temptation to be corrupt. It has to be something we can all be sure of, that's why it was gold before and its bitcoin for some people. All this complication is just so that one can be sure bitcoin will continue to work as money. You have to help yourself before you can help others, put on your mask before you can put it on others. Good money allows you to help yourself. Money with inflation helps the Govt help you. US Govt employees recently got a pay rise, did you get one as well?

It has no more value than our dollar in that sense. And as someone already commented, its only plus is it can be traded back and forth without any regulations. But having an inherent value? It doesn't have it any more than our dollar does, it's just an agreed upon value. And the people who are "advocates" for crypto like they mention in the video, and the miners of bitcoin don't give a damn about the communities they go into or about "decentralization" in reality if you look at their actions. The majority of them are just heavily invested into the asset, and will lobby hard to raise the price. And as soon as profitability isn't great where they're mining it, they'll pick up and leave those communities the same way they found them, if not worse. There's no evidence to the contrary to say they're doing good.
@marcogallo28112 жыл бұрын
The idea of crypto and decentralized currency in general sounds great. The other guy already said it (bank accounts, and credit cards, predators), etc... But the people mining and holding most of the power in the crypto industry are all at the top too. And they control the ups and downs of the market as they wish because they have the funds to do so. So it's not much of a difference, just different people in power.

Christmas lights in America alone uses 5x more energy. Which one is providing a service? Which one can we go without. Cell phone Chargers left in the wall in the U.S. alone could power the Bitcoin network for 3 years. No one is taking their charger out the wall anytime soon. No one cares about these things.

Bitcoin leans toward first and foremost to enrich the rich infrastructure builders & for the longest time china mining hardware manufacturers and offer centralized toll opportunities for the poverty to enter the network . high fees and slow speeds do not incentive the end user unless it goes thru a 3rd party counter risk ( lighting network)
@damchi252 жыл бұрын
There's no 3rd party counter risk with lightning if you use non-custodial wallets (e.g. Phoenix on Android/IOS or run your own node)

Why do you have a show dedicated to trying to reform or the apologist for Bitcoin mining. Cryptocurrency mining is a waste of electricity, is bad for the environment and bad for the commercial PC market. It's a net bad for society.
@each1teach12 жыл бұрын
It's nothing of a waste, compared to how much banks waste
@jeffsteyn71742 жыл бұрын
And you decide what waste is? If bitcoin is bad for the environment then so is everything else u use. If you upset about coal use then you should talk to your congressman. 60% of mining uses green energy. 1 terahash of bitcion computing power uses half the energy of the tv on your wall. It uses less than your light bulb. But yeah bitcoin is the problem. Gold mining uses double bitcoins energy and literally destroyed the environment. While only 8% actually gets used by industry. The rest sits in a vault or sits on someone's wrist. But yeah bitcio is the problem and a waste.🤡

@@each1teach1 The fact that you're even comparing the global financial system used by billions of people, doing trillions of transactions every day to the tiny niche that is crypto, says it all...
