Except you do get taxed on "Taxable events" like when your trade from one coin to another and managed to make a profit in the trade. She already explained that it's no different to if you trade stocks, bonds or other assets. The point is that anytime you choose to interact with the government, through their currencies, you will need to be taxed as such. I am really not sure where the no tax narrative came from.

Thanks for the update. The market seems to be bouncing back but a lot of people lost huge sums already. I’ve been in crypto since 2011. And this kind of behavior (sweet talk + deflection) has been everywhere. As said in the documentary, many are politically (almost religiously) very libertarians. Their political thinking starts and stops around themselves. Even the deflection is selfish (satoshi’s quote “you don’t understand, I don’t have time”). The truth is they don’t care about equality or equity or even society at large. They don’t want to spend time thinking about those topics. They pretend to be politically savvy. Pyramid schemes solely rely on more investors as the investors are required to pay entree fees and are then promised bonuses for recruitng new investors. There’s a simple was to interpret the crypto enthusiast’s message that make the absurdity of their arguments clear. They can’t talk about bitcoins without referring to its dollar value. It’s “value” is the number of dollars for which you can exchange it. From this observation, all of the claims about crypto instantly fall apart. I wanna start with the fact that a lot of the people in this video are lucky gamblers. Now I want to make my point for crypto. How liquid is a baseball card? Or an antique watch? I think you have it all wrong, crypto isn't about replacing fiat... it's about working alongside it. I'll start with the first thing... crypto is essentially a global market where software and ideas are exchanged at a very low transaction cost relative to the true market. Kevin O'leary gives great examples of how difficult it is to invest in foreign markets. Depending on how much capital you would like to move the fees can absolutely destroy you and generally speaking most brokerages expect you to pay relatively high fees to begin with(at least where I live) meaning no matter where you live in the world you have the ability to access crypto at an affordable cost. Second off the world is moving at such a fast pace technologically that the ability to mint ideas such as software development, machine learning, art, etc. and have proof without anyone else having full access until purchase can accelerate how fast we exchange ideas and in turn allow technology to grow at a faster rate while the brains behind it see the financial benefit. Crypto is probably the most capitalist thing you could imagine, it's literally the worlds first global market that literally anyone can access as long as you know how to simply download a VPN. I think maybe a vast majority of the lucky shareholders are just that ... lucky... but if you take a second to think about how locked down the real world is then maybe it would start to make sense. A lot of westerners sort of live in their own reality which is absolutely understandable, but i'd say a vast majority of people I know don't understand that a lot of the world lacks freedom and in turn ideas get locked up. Crypto isn't just one thing or another, it's an entire new generation of online technology. There's video games literally selling up to half a billion dollars worth of GIF's, imagine all these people contributing to their own version of the perfect online world. Religion has reigned over humans for as long as we can imagine and now that we start to think for ourselves we don't have the same methods to cope and create a sense of community. This is the beginning of a new generation in my personal opinion, I think crypto is in its infancy and we haven't even started to see some of the potential benefits it will create for us. I could honestly go on for hours but I think people need to stop looking at crypto as this attempt at currency, some of the biggest crypto enthusiasts say that crypto shouldn't even be referred to as cryptocurrency in the first place because it's counterproductive to the whole idea of what the market is becoming. I think most crypto on the market is BS and will inevitably get wiped out, Eth makes sense because it simplifies transactions for fungible tokens AKA ideas. Bitcoin is essentially digital gold in the sense that it's a speculative asset (gold is a speculative asset you can google it). Gold takes lots of time and money and fuel to move especially when there's so much of it globally, when we eventually start to harness more nuclear energy bitcoin would take significantly less resource and manpower in the long run.

Its essentially warlordism, but with the "winner" being the person who has the biggest bank account rather than the person with the biggest stick. Of course in crypto we don't have "warlords" and "sticks" and "serfs". We have "whales" and "media attention" and "dipshits who waste their life savings when a whale used their media attention to pump a cryptocurrency or NFT they were wanting to dump". But its the same general principle. There is no single person controlling the whales - they are decentralized. But at the same time the dipshits don't have any say in things - there is no democracy. Even just among the whales there is no democracy. They all do whatever they want. Often their interests align and they seem to operate in concert, but there is no actual coordination or "voting" going on. Conversely, you can have democracy with centralization. That's the model all democratic governments in the world follow (some follow it closer than others, but they all follow it). The two concepts are not mutual exclusive. Anyone who tells you they're the same is trying to rope you into a scam. "Don't worry, you'll have all this control over your assets!" No you won't. You'll watch them sink while the scammer makes off like a bandit. Just like any other scam.

It's not part of the problem and it's not in the hands of the governments who have a very huge control over how things work. Nice interview, but it's a shame you didn't address the energy consumption of mining cryptocurrencies. A single bitcoin transaction currently costs 1500+ kWh, enough to power a household for almost two months. The total electrical energy consumption of bitcoin is comparable to the entire power consumption of Ukraine at 144 TWh. Also I would've loved to hear more about pump and dump schemes. If a couple thousand bitcoin holders (or a few whales) work together, they can easily manipulate the price. I'm not opposed to bitcoin or cryptocurrencies, but with scale more issues come up that require solutions. Bitcoin shouldn't survive if it can't become sustainable.
