I feel like the Untitled album was the perfect example of how a band could successfully change and mature without completely ‘selling out’ or whatever. It kinda sucks how it seemed like Blink dematured on California. The immaturity was nostalgic and good for everything before the Untitled album, everything after that should’ve been following down the path that the Untitled album set

That's why Dogs Eating Dogs is so disheartening to listen to sometimes. It had a perfect balance of maturity as well as their trademark catchiness. It gave me optimism for the band's future but obviously we know how all that turned out. Sorry to Matt Skiba but blink-182 is no longer a band as far as I'm concerned. Only the synergy of Mark, Tom, and Travis can create the true magic of blink-182

This was also the album that broke them up. The experimental side of the album really pushed Tom to want to create AVA. To push the boundaries of his creative limits which Blink could never provide. However, to this day i havent heard many if not any songs by any pop punk bands since that come close to the untitled album. Most modern pop punk bands take their cues from TOYPAJ and Enema. This album changed my life. I was about 13 and I had always been a blink fan. But, my mom picked up this record for me and I listened to it pretty much daily until I turned 15. Everything about it is perfect to me. You can tell that Mark, Tom, and Travis all put everything they had into it. And the experimentation on it just blows me away every time. Everything from the vocals, to Toms guitar tone is perfect. And it couldn’t have been at a more perfect time. I had been listening to simple plan, good Charlotte, Green Day and blink all along but this was around the time I started getting into more emo driven stuff like The Used, MCR, Jimmy Eat World, and Taking Back Sunday. So this switch couldn’t have been more appropriate. I love how dark the whole album was. It’s definitely my favorite album of all time.

@@AsdAsd-rd6ce that's pretty cool, I'm not familiar with the albums and I only know about MGK due to his early controversy with Eminem, but that aside, if they can keep up the energy and have fun while doing it, they might be rolling in a new Era of pop punk. It was a Tuesday in the fall of 2003 when Untitled came out. I was 16 and Blink was my favorite band by a large margin. I even still have an original Buddha demo tape. I scheduled an orthodontist appointment for the morning of its release so I could get out of school and buy it as soon as Best Buy opened. I popped it in my CD player and listened to it as I drove around before going back to class. I was....so disappointed. I've listened to it fewer than 10 times since. It just never really grew on me. I can't even name any of the songs besides the radio hits. I haven't really listened to anything they've put out since. They needed to change. Mark was over 30 and they all had families. "what's my age again" and "well I guess this is growing up" don't work forever. I'm not mad that they went in a different direction, it just wasn't my style. Sometimes I still play their albums but always stop at TOYPAJ. They're eligible for the R&R HoF in 2020 and I think they deserve it.

The Untitled album is legit proof that bands can evolve and still sound like the same band. I mean Buddha to Untitled, that's a perfect evolution of a band, IMO. During this time, the progression of the sound, tone, lyrics, you name it, just got better and better. Obviously the hiatus after Untitled and the Neighborhoods album (which is a good album but nowhere near the expectations people had) affected the band's evolution, but I think they were on the right track with the Dogs Eating Dogs EP. Since then, I haven't been a big a fan of their newer stuff with Matt Skiba, but I don't completely hate it, either. Fingers crossed for Nine.

Hello from Poway! Great video, but I politely disagree on this being the album where Blink's influences shine through the best, if at all. Dude Ranch and Cheshire Cat do a much better job of showcasing that. In regards to musical style, Cheshire Cat in particular is almost indistinguishable from Screeching Weasel's Boogada and My Brain Hurts - identical song structures and textures, and the melodic leads that can be plugged straight into a Weasel song. Lyrically, everything up until Take Off is basically just an extension of what the Descendents had already done, just updated a bit for the 90s California high school culture that used the word 'gay' to mean 'uncool'. Unwritten Law might have been the biggest influence on Blink's self-titled album. Early Blink and UL sound nearly identical, and the bands were friends at the time. After a decade of being an emotionally charged skate punk band, they made the jump to being more than just the band that wrote 'Calin' with their release Elva, which gave them the jump to mainstream popularity. With pop punk's popularity dying out in the early 00's, Blink had to have seen the success of Elva alongside the rise of post-hardcore and made the jump themselves a year later. Blink's Self-Titled sounds a lot more like Elva than anything else, and it's no coincidence. TL;DR. early blink-182 = their influences, Blink's self titled = Unwritten Law's Elva.

@@NateTheMateForever Since American idiot is about to turn 15 and also Dookie just turned 25, I was thinking about you probably doing Green Day because of that.
@aleksandarmarkovic2215 жыл бұрын
Nate The Mate as long as it’s not on American Idiot. Do Dookie or Nimrod
@ang3lstardust5 жыл бұрын
@@aleksandarmarkovic221 I like those albums, but American idiot is my favorite, though. I'll be fine, ARTV is gonna be doing a rating of the album probably (which I suggested to him.)

I found bL!Nk 182 at 17 my fav album until last was Take off you’re pants and jacket. But has I’m getting older the more mature Blink 182 seems more appealing too me. Thin I still love Dude Ranch,Emma of the State and T.O.Y.P.A.J.

My all time favorite album from any band. Can’t wait for 2023 when Tom comes back for the 20 year anniversary!

To me, their best album was Enema. Sound and composition was beyond any band has done at the time.
@popfiasco4 жыл бұрын
Yes, for me too. Enema was like a refined advanced version of what they did on Chesire/dude ranch. The drums were also a shock at the time. When the record came out i didn't know they've changed the drummer, and i was like: what? man, just wow... this is amazing. Where did this guy came from?

Enema of the State is their pop punk masterpiece, not this album. That album was way more inspirational and groundbreaking

"Greatest album to date" is a subjective opinion. I still stick by Dude Ranch and Enema as their best albums.

I switch my favourite so often lmao. I got into them through TOYPAJ and then expanded from there. Enema, dude ranch and untitled are all awesome albums imo but untitled definitely was the most experimental
