I know you're joking but in case you're curious. The real reason they launched in the air is because traditional land mines were significantly reduced in effectiveness by being in the ground. As shrapnel is the main lethal force laying on the ground before it goes off protected you a lot. Airburst like this is significantly more effective because the ground isn't in the way

We’ve came a long way since Biblical times. Capital Punishment for Minor Offenses: The Old Testament prescribes the death penalty for a variety of offenses that would be considered minor today. For instance, in Deuteronomy 21:18-21, a stubborn and rebellious son could be stoned to death. Similarly, in Leviticus 20:10, adultery was punishable by death. Modern legal systems typically reserve the death penalty for only the most severe crimes, and many countries have abolished it altogether. Treatment of Women: Women in biblical times were often treated as property and had very few rights. For example, Deuteronomy 22:28-29 describes how a man who rapes a virgin who is not betrothed must pay her father fifty shekels of silver and marry her. 😮 Collective Punishment: In some instances, entire families or groups were punished for the sins of one member. An example is the story of Achan in Joshua 7, where Achan’s entire family and possessions were destroyed because he took forbidden items. Modern justice systems are based on individual responsibility and would see collective punishment as highly unjust. Thankfully. Blood Feuds and Revenge: The concept of “an eye for an eye” (lex talionis) from Exodus 21:23-25 was a form of legal retribution. While it was meant to limit excessive punishment, it still promoted the idea of revenge. 👁️

A fuse doesn't cause an S-mine to explode mid air, a wire attached to a canister in the ground is pulled on when an explosion propels it into air. Then the wire pulls on a detonator, on the mine mid air causing it to explode out like a frag grenade.
@michaelbuckersАй бұрын
Is it though? Sounds like a lot of additional required work and complexity just to set it up, and an easy way for it to fail to explode. Wikipedia says it was a delay fuse, if it's to be trusted.
@VolsAndFTFEnjoyerАй бұрын
Oh okay!
@oskarcarrasco6298Ай бұрын
The main fuse was designed to delay the firing of the propelling charge for approximately four seconds after the mine was triggered. The explosion of the propelling charge sent the mine upwards into the air and activated three short-delay pellets between the propellant charge and the three detonators. These short-delay pellets delayed the mine's detonation long enough for it to reach an appropriate height before exploding. TLDR: There is a short delay fuse that lights up when the first charge explodes, and causes second explosion. Gemma is wrong.

There was also another variant of this mine. A nice long tripwire was attached to multiple Bouncing Betty's (nickname for the mine in the video) and once someone hit the wire, all mines would jump up at the same time. This was especially effective in forests and small mountain paths to slow down or neutralize large groups of enemies
