The Triton is a fairly average ute but the Ukrainians prefer Right hand Drive vehicles as habitually a Russian will shoot out the passenger side first as that is where they expect the driver to be so surviveability is enhanced enough to get off the road to safety. The common or garden 4 WD has become a highly mobile thin skinned vehicle which can hit and run with comparative ease.

Having only discovered this podcast recently, I listen to 2 episodes a night before bed and there is always fresh bits and pieces in here I havent learned yet. Considering I spend around 3 hours a day researching Ukraine/Russia updates before finally winding down with this podcast, I'm always delightfully surprised to hear fresh news bits on this podcast that haven't yet made it to the underground media circuit yet. This China-Russia contract was a shocker to me, and Im hoping we do get to learn more in the coming months and hopefully we find that US and China have a much bigger line of communication open between them than they are letting on.

It will literally blow up decades worth of infrastructure. I wonder how much they could store.
@joblo341
@joblo341 Жыл бұрын
That is essentially what I heard. Pumping oil in frozen locations they have to keep the oil moving. If it slows down too much, the oil absorbs cold from the surrounding ground, making it thicker and slower. Crude oil also contains some water. Eventually that water freezes to the sides of the pipe, accumulating, slowly creating a plug in the pipe. The freezing water expands, cracking the pipe. This means the oil well has to be redrilled. But ... russia does not have the technology or expertise or equipment to do this. They used to depend on various western oil producers to do it for them. They have left the country. So now russia is in a corner. Either keep pumping and accept what ever price they can get, or stop pumping and be forced to redrill the well some indeterminate time in the future.

Light trucks were used in the Desert in the First World War. In between the First World war and the start of the Second World War. Both German, Italian and British individuals developed the equipping of Trucks and the driving techniques for use in the Great Sand seas of North Africa. Those efforts lead to units formed for both recon and attack missions. The British had the Long-Range Dessert Group Followed a bit later by the SAS. LRDG both engineered attacks with the Free French but also conducted deep recons and long periods of road watch where 2 troopers would watch counting trucks and other vehicles moving along the coast road for a 24-hour shift before being replaced. Patrols rotated the duty as needed around every three weeks. There are dozens of books about these units' histories.

The UK government has been exemplary in its strong support for Ukraine and deserves the highest respect for it. My country, the USA, is doing a good job of it, too, but we are not in a position to scrounge for used pick-ups which we can drive over to Ukraine. All I can do is continue to donate. The Brits have a long history of defying their opponents. In this age, the Americans are the definitive backup, but the UK's military might is definitive. Its leadership is vital. Together we are consolidating behind the idea of democracy and human self-determination. The fighting in Bakhmut is savage. Like nothing experienced for generations. But the beauty of democracy, human rights? Our beliefs are so strong that the common person - fully knowing the truth... nothing shakes our beliefs in what is right. Our minds won't change

Mitsubishi manufacturing in Britain? Farming Vehicles are usually tractors, harvesters. Artillery losses of Ukraine seems considerable huge, at almost 1 : 1, whereas common landbourne vehicle loss ratio is some 1 : 3, as it "should", considering the population ratio of both countries. But towed artillery has delays in rapid response, thus easier to attack.

@@merhaba8 Not on about the ability to stop bullets, but the 'bulletproof design and build quality' of Toyota vehicles in general and the legendary Hilux in particular. No vehicle without 10mm of armour is going to stop rifle bullets.... Hilux is by far the choice of Australian farmers and tradesmen who need total reliability and rugged 'go anywhere' capability, and to last for decades. Nothing about stopping bullets, but about reliability and strength, and a track record many decades in the making.

@@chrissmith2114 The bullet comment was tongue in cheek and I wasn’t doubting the reliability, etc, of the Hilux, I was just saying that any similar vehicle would have, or not have survived Top Gears stunt. German tanks got blown turrets off in Syria, deployed by Turkey, as the Soviet era ones currently in Ukraine. The whole Ukraine territory resembles the hedgerow county in Normandy in 1944, just the fields are XXL-size. I don't think, that Ukraine is an area to deploy battle tanks with much success. To run over trenches would likely need tanks of the 100+tons size with armour all around as thick as former battle ships. Possibly steered by remote controll.
