How BROKEN is the Battanian Fian Champion? Bannerlord Archer Units Guide

I found it gets crazier when you put them into 2 archer groups standing far on each flank as the AI tend to only face 1 group and gets shot full of arrows from the side or back

YEP. always split them up. if you got infantry place them in the middle, 50m away from the archers in a very tight shield wall and it's done

I split them in 4 groups that way they can shoot from all sides

Hmm, may have to try this, I admit I've been keeping them in one large group with my character in command for the skill perks... or when they say 'x to every troop in your formation' do they mean every troop in your employ?

I think they're especially insane on any desert map -- dividing ~50 fians into two groups on different levels of the cliffs that show up, they were basically what let me win a 140 v 500 fight against Aserai

Even recruitability isn't a problem, many villages are willing to give 5-8 highborn recruits/ warriors etc. without any relations.

Yes. it hasn't really been one since 1.5.10. i think. But battania is a very small part of the map. So if you fight far away from it, it can be difficult to go back and recruit a few. but it was just to give them something in the cons, it's not really a weakness since they kinda don't die anyway

That can easily be remedied with roguery 150 and Leadership 150. Converting Forest bandits into Fian Champions and having 150 roguery guarantees you forest bandits automatically join you. I did a video on it

I’ve had 2 fian champions since the beginning of my play though and somehow they are still alive…. I usually send them with my brother companion on a quest and they have neither failed or died.

I think someone else did a test of the fians vs. legionaries and the Fians only had a K/D ratio of around .5. But it was also a pure melee test.

from my series of tests they had 1.12 Vs Legionaries. very good, but the Legionaries also lost some performance with the blunt DMG tweaks and the increase protection from armor.

I’ve been using 100 fian champs on my run recently but I hit a wall in the form of 40 imperial cataphracts. My men can’t thin their numbers enough before the impact. I went from no loses in any battle to losing half my men

Keep your boys compact and together against cav charges. It generally works with most units that don't wield spears.

@@LyonExodus Yeah I tried making a long line and a smaller loose one for more arrows flying out but I noticed that if I kept them close the cav would get more hits in than if I spread out. I’ll make a tight rectangle then lower the difficulty and see how that goes

Exact opposite. Their archery sucks against shield infantry but their archery needs a buff and their OP infantry needs a nerf.

@@DestroyerOfOgis They actually got nerfed, or at least the Ai became smarter, because 80+ of fian champions use to be able to destroy an army of 200+, with of course infantry units forming a shield wall. In the current update, the enemy infantry is smarter, and use their shields, but still the Fian archers still kill most of the enemy units and because of that, they are very easy and quick to upgrade.
