This video covers the changes in weight when you ream an iron. We also discuss how they turned out from a consistency point of view and tons of other club making techniques.

If somebody doesn't have a drill press it is still possible to ream out the hosels to parallel (if they are forged). It just takes strong hands, wrists, and forearms. Put the 3/8 inch drill bit into the top of the hosel as far as it will go. Clamp vice grip pliers on the upper end of the drill bit at approximately 90 degrees (perpendicular to the upper end of the drill bit). Then hold the head in one hand and twist the vice grip in a circular motion while pushing the drill bit into the head. The path of least resistance is when the drill stays centered and removes the least amount of metal from inside the hosel. That forces the drill to stay straight. It takes a while to get to the bottom of the hosel, but it can be done. I can do only 2 or 3 heads at a time before more wrists and hands are too tired to do more without a rest. (But you don't need to buy a drill press. It will also make you hands stronger for golf.)

Great video Jim. Nice set of clubs! I think that he will like the Wilson Staff wedge that you built for him the more that he uses it. I am liking the Wilson Staff wedges that you put together for me.

This is a question for these shafts. When you frequency match a set of graphite shafts with the labels painted on, how do you line those labels up to match? Same thing if you spine the shafts.

Just getting subbed to your channel and this vid was what I was looking for. I have Mizuno jpx800 pro. I would love to put the Aldila NV's in but my stock shaft was the Dynamic Gold. How should I go about reaming the heads? Thanks!

Is there a standard depth the shafts should be inserted? I.E. 1.25” ? I make sure to bottom out my graphite shafts in the bore. I’m trying to do my own stuff.

If you don’t tip trim a parallel iron shaft what happens playability wise versus on that is properly tipped trimmed?

You mentioned that all the Accra shafts were within 1 gram of each other but one was 2 grams off. How do you rectify this? Do you remove weight from the hosel of the club that will be fitted for this head? Just curious.
@wallstreetoneil
@wallstreetoneil 2 жыл бұрын
Since they are Parallel Shafts and can go into any club, the best way to do it is to mate it with the lightest head - it fixes both problems.
@McGolf
@McGolf 2 жыл бұрын
So there is one gram involved in the total weight issue. Not much of a concern however what Paul mentioned is a perf3ct idea. Lightest to heaviest for top of set to the bottom

Why don't shft producers leave the lat inch at the tip without epoxy -finish so you don't have to sand the tip? Alsso what is the rubber block you use on your scale when measuring head weights?
@McGolf
@McGolf 2 жыл бұрын
some graphite folks to leave the tip alone however I imagine its a cost thing. Having to protect the from the coatings etc. The rubber piece a shaft clam made for a regular vice i works great for measuring shafts on the scale.

Hi, great video as usual. I've seen an old one where you were reshafting Ping i210 which have conical hosel in the bottom part, are they easy to ream to .370 or better to leave them as they are? Thanks for your opinion.
@McGolf
@McGolf 2 жыл бұрын
The ping iron is a tough steel but can be reamed

Great vid, love watching the builds....What is your thought of taking 370 parallel shafts from one set of heads, Steel Fibers, and tapering them to go win a .355 tapers.
@McGolf
@McGolf 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve talked about this on the live stream, certain shafts can be sanded for fit into the .355. However the best method is the ream the hosel
@sloswingspeed9535

Jim…Recoil is providing .370” shafts…….tipping then sanding in the .355” taper…for Mizuno 460 F3/2 shafts…and others. I do the same for SFs in 70, 80 and some 90g weights. Cleared it with Chris and CJ years ago. As an option to reaming

I’m surprised you went from 50 to 90 on shaft weight…got me thinking what would be a good weight to from 105 in my irons? I play SM8 x3 in S300 but I’ve though maybe I will change those shaft to something in the 115-120 range. Is that about right?
@McGolf
@McGolf 2 жыл бұрын
I went to 90 as it was lowest weight available in a wedge. If using 105 shafts I like the 115 weight such as modus wedge, or the tour issue stuff that comes in the callaway wedges

Why wouldn't you go all the way down to the graphite for the best bonding surface for the epoxy? Seems like otherwise, you are bonding to paint or primer, and that could break loose under load.
@McGolf
@McGolf 2 жыл бұрын
The way the paint is bonded to the Graphite it’s not much different, and when getting to the Graphite you run the risk of taking too much off. Take a look at the tips prior to the build I like the removal very close to the shaft
