so if an individual 'misuses' acess to computer systems, you go to jail. But a researcher, that then sells to a commercial entity that exploits it. That's just a breach of trust...

I have the same thought, after watching this i feel facebook did nothing wrong. And yes i think it is that guys fault alone with all who did the questionnaire. I do believe whenever you want to login with Facebook there will be another page pop up and say by sign-in you agree to share the following data with this organization, and it will have all the contents that will be shared listed down, that is not Facebook's terms and conditions but a clearly displayed list, people accepted without thinking, I guess it's for the less the 5 dollar money. Now you have this data breach as I would call it, then ppl are blaming Facebook for it.

that is right when people are asked do you agree that CA has access to your profile and that they have the right to share it and you click ok, then it is not only the fault of the CA but people agreeing to the condition, so I am also wondering why is it they called Zuckerberg instead of people in CA who really exploited the profiles of their users?

I don't understand why people are flaming facebook for it, if it was the user's choice to make those tests and share their data with the website. People do this exact same thing everytime they click on "log in with facebook" on any website out there, and many times when they click on things like "I agree with the terms above" etc.

There are many reasons to doubt it. A lot of what's been said about CA is based on... CA's own past posturing. Of course they want to make it seem decisive. But the "data" it's based on, is likes of memes, cat videos, and repostings of ad campaigns... It's likely overblown and it had a negligible effect.

Well nowadays nobody reveals their true views online. So what's the issue. No matter how accurate the models maybe, the resulting profiles may not be correct.
@bobblebee493 жыл бұрын
It's actually extremely accurate -- they might know things about you you haven't realized yourself! There are cases of ads telling women they are pregnant and showing them baby products before the women know themselves. BTW, if such a company knows your email, they can link the data they rip from facebook to your twitter, reddit, amazon...anything associated with that email is now also associated with your ad profile they are making. Yes it's a model--it's never going to 100% represent the authentic "you"--but it works extremely well

Painful to watch clueless Congressmen and Senators poorly attempt to scapegoat Zuckerberg during the hearings. They only demonstrated that they were so technologically illiterate that they could only spend the session guessing at what they're supposed to be indignant about. Attempting to seem tough in front of their constituents, and no substance.

Remember the access to and monitoring was not a one off shot. Seeing the persons profile is incredibly useful. Every time that person posts a public statement or does something like passing on a news clip they like the researchers know more about that person and can design better and better things to target them and importantly to subtly influence them with misinformation.
