I think Fifth Harmony in general deserved a lot better. The fact that Ally stated years later, that she didn’t enjoy her time in the group, just says a lot. And of course Lauren has been pretty outspoken about management, Dinah felt her identity was being taken from her, that whole situation with Normani and Camila’s fans, and Camila being pitted against the girls. If they do reunite, I hope they do it on their terms, with no one manipulating them.

that label pushed camila so much and the fact that there was no lead singer but somehow there’s multiple songs where a whole member doesn’t sing is insane. camila harmonizing with herself on so many songs. you have powerhouses like dinah and ally in the group but don’t showcase it. it was also really shady how camila was allowed to put out commercially pushed solo music while still in the group. when the girls weren’t allowed to do that except some covers and small collabs. while none of this is camila’s fault, i think she really fed into. she always separated herself from the group. if there was a fifth harmony event, a lot of times camila wouldn’t even be there

Is her music the best? No, But I’ve seen an improvement in her writing.

camila was also the most relatable member of the group by far, to their target audience. it isn’t all about the vocals. camila had that awkward, quirky and bubbly personality, and was also open about how much of a nerd she was and how she was obsessed with one direction and ed sheeran. the other members were much more mature and didn’t relate to the audience as much. labels like when you stand out, and camila just did. having star quality is much much more than just vocals and music, the label is essentially marketing a product when it comes to groups (as bad as it sounds but it’s true) and you have to fit the bill and it just so happened that camila checked off every mark for what a label wants in a star. that’s why they ultimately chose her and helped her succeed. it may be messed up but it’s just the reality of the industry

The fact that she knew the right people and had good pop sensibilities, at least during her debut album era and the beginning part of her messy sophomore album era, helped her distance herself from the group even more. This tale of the arguably not most vocally talented member making it big solo has happened several times now, and to their credit, it's mostly because of their guts and savvy to leave a constricting environment, work hella hard and defy public expectation. In regards to Twice, it is a yes for their earlier stuff but with the present one i think their music has been much less reliant on Nayeon's voice character. However, i don't think the same concept applies to 5H. In most songs, Camila overpushes her vocal ability so much it's easy to detect flaws of her singing. She can sing but 5H's music definitely does not suit Camila's voice. For me, their more R&B-oriented songs should've actually utilized the prowess of Dinah's vocals more + Lauren's smoky husky voice to add more layers to them. Normani as well with that butter-y tone for extra flavors. On their pop-oriented songs, Ally could've definitely done much better job as she's more flexible with her voice and singing styles. Camila is decent but 5H's music is not she could've shined brightly at her talent. Once she's out of the group and created her own music, i think that's when she's finally found where her voice suits better. Her debut and Familia albums are a good indicator of that.

Ngl, when Camila left I knew I was gonna miss her vocals because I liked her ad libs, but in the latest album that they put out without her, I finally heard the other girls' singing with better distribution. It also showed each girl with their own part and you can hear what they sound like without C's vocals on top of it. I mean everybody in these girl groups auditioned because of their singing talent and they made it because they had potential for that career. The thing that I didn't like is that the way that Camila's vocals were so present in all the songs, made it seem like the group was dependent on her vocals because the other members' singing were not reliable. Like yes Camila can sing but so can the other members too but you wouldn't know because you barely get their lines and if they do, their vocal abilities are not shown off because of the style of the song. I don't think it has anything to do about being more talented because they are all talented singers and they have mastery of their own voices/styles.

I don’t think that’s a fair comparison, considering both grew differently. And skin color played a significant part. Camila is a white Latina, so she automatically gets more privileges than Normani. I mean, these days, you don’t have to have the best vocals to be mainstream or be technically the best. Normani is more a performer than a singer when she performs on stage. Camila fits more the singer/songwriter style who can perform on the stage. The other three are more so vocalists than Camila and Normani. And vocalists don’t get appreciated much these days. Lauren creates music from the soul (her music may not be your taste, but there’s a whole lot of depth in them). Ally tries to go more so of that catchy radio hit, but her real strength is more so soul and ballad songs. Dinah delivers more vocally than any of the girls.

This is the real truth everyone is scared to say. It’s popular to hate on Camila and act like she was so awful in 5H. But if we are being honest, she was clearly the overall strongest member. Sure she wasn’t the best vocalist or best dancer, but she was decent in both singing and dancing. Whereas, the other girls would be strong in one thing but lacking strongly in another thing. For example, Ally may have the strongest vocals but her dancing and stage presence were subpar. Or Normani who was the best dancer, but her vocals were weak and forgettable. She saved their performances so much with her stage presence. She had the pop star energy down. Finally, her personality easily made her the most likeable by fans. The other girls are now starting to grow into their star quality. They needed each other to compensate for their lack. Been a harmonizer since day 1 and was proud to see representation through Normani as a proud black girl then , but Camila just had me from day 1. Everytime I met her during the M&G or even during her solo era and Familia era , she just gave the best hugs and feeling of a best friend. Y'all love to blame label when she was equally tortured by the management. I have seen that girl work really hard for everything. Camila was sincere hard working and just herself from day 1. She didn't care to act like the music industry wants you to and that is why she stood out. She got herself a vocal coach before the others , always worked on her songwriting on tour and just loved reading and and was curious about the process of song making, was against the over sexualization at that age so made it clear about the choice of outfits at that age and was there for her fans and made sure to fulfill her solo dream for which she and others auditioned. You all forget that the other four stuck around for another album and would have stuck around for more if it had performed well. They did not. Even today Camila makes Latin influenced music that even might not be the most trending at that time than making bubblegum pop. She sticks to who she wants to represent. Ally only tried Latin and tried to "act" Latina when it pleased her but once the audience didn't buy it she switched. Same with Lauren but atleast she went independent. Dinah also is now doing her "Island" beats and all that heritage because the other didn't went big. Who amongst the 5 stuck to it? Give Camila the credit. Not a fan of the group but Camila did have that IT factor that the others lacked. I don't like her voice and she is extra but, she does IT. Normani is talented but, she's doesn't have that star factor to her. Her aura seems bland and she doesn't stand out. Although she's a phenomal dancer! I like Lauren but again, she doesn't have that energy for pop music. The other two.... I never really cared about honestly.

I think the label gave everyone a chance at the lead, but the songs that Camila lead, were the most successful. The label knew that Camila was the reason people were listening, and ran with it.

This. People act like the label picked a member first then pushed them to stardom. It was the opposite, they saw the popularity and potential for success in Camila and that’s why they pushed her. She was clearly the fan favorite and thus their clear money maker. I remember even Simon said he saw her star potential and always knew she’d leave the group.

On the subject of Posh (Vic Beckham), it’s like you said, I don’t know if every member of a group SHOULD be given more prominent parts. She seemed to be having fun in the early days, but she also seemed to be the first to really get exhausted, like after Geri left, it seemed to be Vic always complaining and wanting to leave and see David and her family. Especially on their tour documentary they did… which is great, btw. Vic says several times “I’m so tired,” and “I just want to sleep for a year”. As for vocals, I really don’t know that Victoria was the best vocalist in the Spice Girls. There’s a reason we heard so much of Mel B, Mel C, and Emma… they had the most experience and natural skill… but apart from live shows, on their actual album and single recordings, I think Victoria was featured quite often, and she has considerably better vocals than, for example, Geri Halliwell. Songs like “2 become 1”, “Say You’ll Be There”, “Naked”, “Who Do You Think You Are”, “Saturday Night Divas”, “Viva Forever“, and literally most of their songs all feature Victoria with silky smooth vocals. Of course, no tea no shade, that’s after production and editing. Still, she can be heard live singing as well, better than Geri most of the time. I think she was featured a lot more than Geri (considered by some to be the “least” talented Spice Girl, with the biggest personality; she’s a Leo lol). Victotria has a theater background and actually did seem to enjoy singing. Geri was interested in fame, and acting crazy with fans, and making connections with people. She was like the comic “relief” of the group, the firecracker, the wild card. Her vocals were always borderline speaking-singing, or vaguely “Broadway”. Only without much foundation or power in her diaphragm. If you look up Victoria’s audition tape for the group, she sings “All That Jazz” and it’s actually pretty good.

Ah the Victoria vs Geri comparison. Geri was the savvier and more dedicated one to pursue a music career. Besides, she knew how to make the most out of her limited singing talent and was the group's best and most influential songwriter. Which is why her debut album sounds more like a Spice Girls record than Forever, where the remaining girls lost their trademark fun and cheeky sound as it didn't feature her. Victoria was clearly destined to be bigger in a different field.

To be honest I only liked 5H because of camila she was a fan too and she gets it how to interact and treat people, to me she was always the one who knew better how to deal with the fame but also not cross limits being arrogant with people around her. Also it didn't help the fact that the group praise so much about how better they were without her just too split 1 year later, to me all the 5 girls wanted to go solo but camila was the only one who had the guts to do it despite of the fear if it would work out or not (just look out about the releases of music). There's a great line from an interview that I think she gave that pretty much resumes her personality to me which is "feel the fear and do it anyway."

They were “better” because they went to group therapy, which if you shame people for going to therapy than I pray for your own mental health, and Camila wouldn’t engage with that. Camila was the one who didn’t communicate on a lot of things. I’m sure the girls didn’t communicate to her or one another at times as well. But Camila never let the girls know of the solo collabs she was doing behind their backs. And it’s not like the girls wouldn’t be supportive. They were supportive the first time it happened. And it was only the second where Camila didn’t let them know about the collaboration at all and the song was released that hell fire broke loose. Why did Camila feel the need to hide this from them? Only small minded people would think the other girls wouldn’t be supportive. When Camila left and the group went to therapy together, they resolved a lot of issues within the group and became stronger together, even if they didn’t stay together longer. Lauren, Ally, Normani, and Dinah prioritize the group first before anything else. They would COMMUNICATE and highlight that so much because they were lacking that prior.

i know that not all songs can be for each of the girls...there would be songs for one of the them and another for the other one, ecc. But what was not right for me is that they were forced to go on a POP way only becuase the label want camilla to lead, and also i think that having a leading part, that could be also tiny, is essential in every song. Each of the girls had the right to have a leading part in each song.

Camila doesn’t had the best voice and wasn’t the most pretty, but she was the one with the most memorable face in the group, I guess, because I wasn’t a fan of the group, but occasionally when I was watching their music videos, Camila was the only face that I could identify. I believe was her eyes and hair style, and also, sure, the agency pushing her to our throats.

I really enjoyed their last album, imo it was their best album honestly. The others had a lot of skips but the last one, I think only about one song I would say was a skip tbh. I still listen to Dinah, Ally and Lauren, but my main focus has always been Normani since day one. The first time I saw the group she stood out to me, not even because she's black and I'm black but because I could see especially in live performances she had that IT Factor, she's the reason I even followed the group the way I did. But you could also see how she was holding herself back, probably due to the racism she was receiving while being in the group and told she wasn't good enough, and tbh so the other girls could keep up with her on stage. I remember when it was announced that the group was going on a "Hiatus" and I was excited mainly because I knew we would finally see Normani come into her true self and well we did with Love Lies, Dancing with a stranger but really gaining the GP attention with Motivation and Wild Side. She might not be consistent, and that's due to both her parents having cancer and label issues, but the fact it's been 5 years and she still has ppl waiting for her album even ppl who claim to dislike her are still waiting, just goes to show how much star power she does have with only having a couple songs to her name. She's compared to ppl with multiple albums and every new black female artist that can sing and dance is compared to her. Normani has left a mark in the industry with a small discography, and while ppl can try to deny it it's not a secret the reason you see so many girls dancing down these days is because of Motivation. She brought that high energy dancing in music videos back to the mainstream audience that was missing for awhile. Even Sean Bankhead will say Motivation was the video that put him back on the map and why so many A list artists call him up now. Normani is definitely on a lot of artist moonboards, you can see it clear as day in their videos and performances. Ppl act as if you have to be this BIG worldwide international star to have impact and inspire artists that may be bigger than you but you don't. I've seen it for years, bigger artists take from smaller artists and get inspiration from artists that have never even charted. Look at Tinashe for example, she doesn't chart (and that's okay because she's still a dope artist) But Kpop takes a lot from her and is CLEARLY inspired by her. But to wrap this long ass novel up, Normani for me has always been it, doesn't matter who epic was clearly pushing to be the front leader, Normani has always had my attention. I can't wait until she returns and hopefully this time with a new team she'll be pushed the way she should be because she's talented asf and imo earned it.

Idk if they were never encouraged to, presented the opportunity or maybe the girls never wanted to, but I feel like the biggest issue with 5H is that they don't work on their harmonies like Little Mix. 5H always sounds like they're singing together, but not with each other. So in instances where one of the LM girls isn't there for a live show, they're still talented enough to carry on, but you can tell the sound isn't as full because they rely on each other for the melody.

people who blame camila till this day are either ot4 or are brainwashed by the media and weren’t there back then to know what was really happening. The management wasn’t pushing camila, they were pushing to make the most money possible. it was never about who was the most talented, it was about who connected with the public better and could raise the audience, in the beginning it was lauren but when they wanted to expand to a wider crowd lauren just wasn't having it, like it or not back then all the girls were really awkward and kept to themselves , camila on the other hand from day one she was open and friendly , on stage she interacted the most with the fans, hyping them up and keeping the crowd alive, while the other girls were just singing their parts and leaving, even on social media camila was keeping in touch and joking with the fans, in general she had this bubbly personality that people loved and her parts always had the most views. In the matters of work, camila was a dog when the other girls were parting, camila was in a studio or her bathroom writing and developing new melodies. As to why camila had more singing parts, a big truth that no one seems to acknowledge, or purposely ignore, is that dinah came forward and said that the management wanted a girlie band so they asked from all their girls to make their voices more high pitched or they wouldn't get solos, camila being a mezzo soprano she could transform her voice easier and was able to girlie it up quickly (something that people were making fun of her for, when it was the management that wanted it), if you compare her voice in the beginning of 5H or after she left the group, to their reflection and 7/27 era, it’s completely different. The other girls had deep voices and was harder to do so. There are songs with different style that complimented the other girls voices perfectly where camila had barely any lines, like “who are you”, they just never became too popular. And for last all the girls were making the exact same money no matter if they sang for 1 second, you for real hate camila for doing most of the work and still getting the same money as the others, if anything she would have wished to just be staying back and getting paid. Lauren didn’t even have 1 line in worth it(her grandma died and she missed the recordings) and she still got paid as much as the others.

They haven't been here long enough to know that Camila was putting in the work towards a career long before the other four even remembered that their dream was to be a solo artist. She was learning guitar , working on her songwriting , knowing how to go about song making , finding her voice, putting up covers to connect with audience , I can just go on and on. Even during M&Gs or even when you met her anywhere she would not just stop for a photo but talk to you like a friend. Till today she knows so many of us by our names and I know for a fact that she keeps up with some girls over phone. Even Sinu does and she remembers them all. That's more than any artist is required to do and you don't build that connection is a day. The management obviously saw that and banked on it because their ultimate goal was to make money. They just find reasons to hate Camila
