The 4:05 analysis is pure gold, please more of this! I never watched TdF because it was just too much to take in if wanted to understand what's really going on, without know everything about every rider and every team. Because of this I always preferred to watch small crit races from a single person perspective and tactical commentary, notably the NorCal Cycling channel. But your videos are great at bringing out the tactical nuances, and make want to watch more of TdF. Thanks, and keep up the great work!

Fun fact about the pacing and moderation of the attack by Bauke. He does not ride with a headunit, no heartrate, no powerdata, and no course data (climb length, percentages and corner warning in the descent). He solely relied on his own body knowledge during the ascend and descend, incredible if you ask me. Bauke has shown that the amount of experience can pay off.

H e also said he was not feeling the best and that it might be because he got the second vaccine injection before the Tour..
@ZnakeTech3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but today he said he was just going to be a helper for Lutsenko in a Danish interview - he says he suspects the second vaccine shot is messing with him, which he got just before the Tour, and whenever he tries to go full out, it's kind of like a car with a restrictor, where suddenly he just can't go any faster. He felt the same way after the first shot, and apparently he got a "lactate" test done, which said he is producing a lot more lactate than expected relative to his watts. So honestly, I done expect to see much more of him in this Tour, hopefully it will be out of his system before the Olympics, which is his big goal this season.

great content, as always, I would just add to it that Mollema, when on form and in stages like this, is really, really a strong rider. I don't believe that any of the riders in the group chasing would have the engine to pull him back on the type of terrain thei were facing in the last 30/35 km. Add to this all your considerations about tactics etc etc etc and you have it :-)

One of most amazing things is that Bauke Mollema rides without a cycling computer. His trainer (De Jong) asked him to put it in his back pocket, so they still know his watts/speed etc. Mollema said he doesn't like to ride with a computer since it's only distracting him.
@ZnakeTech3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the team will always want the data regardless - in some events, I don't remember, if it's junior racing, the Olympics or track, but there is something where they aren't allowed to use the computers - but then they will zip tie it under the seat usually, so they still have the data afterwards.

Why do so few stages this year seem to have mountain top finishes? Is it a money thing in that the organizers can get more cash if a stage finishes in a town? Personally, I don't like it. I hope that if Vingegaard can crack Pogacar on a climb tomorrow, it doesn't get nullified by a descent.
@jacobkilby3 жыл бұрын
Definitely feel like there's not enough this year. There was a spate about 5-6 years ago where they made a few more summit finishes descents into towns to stop Froome/Sky just riding everyone off their wheel, though this did nullify the GC race on more stages
@wiesorix3 жыл бұрын
Well, if you wonder why ASO takes any weird decision, money is always a safe bet. The other good guess is increasing the likelihood of a french rider getting a good GC result or even winning. Maybe the organisation wanted Alaphilippe to repeat his 2019 tour, and they know that he can take back time in the descent if he gets dropped by beter climbers. If that's the case, it didin't quite work out...
@nelly-gu2qq3 жыл бұрын
Lol he better be focused more on the others.. Carapaz, Uran.. Since they are a lot closer to him in time.. Than Pogacar. If he makes a mistake with them..it is bye bye podium for him.
@Fyr355553 жыл бұрын
The Ventoux stage descent neutralised gaps because it was wide and fast which benefits a group. The Beixalis descent is really technical so I think it won't be nearly as bad as stage 11. Certainly no 40 second loss unless Vingegaard is just a bad descender relative to the others.

@@carbonking53 btw vaccines aren’t about protecting the individual; it’s to reach “heard immunity”. Even though young people aren’t at as high a risk, from an epidemiological point of view, they still need to get it to reduce the overall spread in the population. The spread through young people passes onto vulnerable population putting them at risk. So, yeah, that’s the science behind it. You’re not alone in your misunderstanding though! It seems like the best strategy in the breakaway is just to make sure you're always in front, and count on the fact that riders in the group behind will not work together. They either look at each other, have a teammate in front, or have different interests than winning the stage. It worked for Mohoric last week, it worked for the group with Pollitt two days ago, it worked today, and it will likely happen again this Tour.
