I think what the last trek leadout man did was way more dangerous than what sagan/jakobsen did and extremely negative racing. He just tried to slot in in front of sagan after finishing his job and while being very slow compared to the other sprinters and therefore nearly causing him to crash and also slowing him considerably.
@l.d.t.6327
@l.d.t.6327 Жыл бұрын
That's nonsense. The Trek rider held his line and 3/4th of the road to the left was wide open. If you would suggest him to go right, and someone is coming through, it would be a massive crash much like the one between Jakobsen and Groenewegen. The only reason the Trek lead out seems to be in the way, is the choice of Jakobsen / Sagan fighting for WvA's wheel (self-inflicted risk they take). In the end it's called positioning and leadout riders falling back are part of it. If you want lead-out men to magically disappear, lead out your own sprint or simply sprint where there is space, and space there was more than enough.

@@l.d.t.6327 He really did not held his line. Compare what he did to what Laporte did. Stuyven deliberately moves to the right, almost stops IN FRONT of Sagan. Absolutely ridiculous...

@@kdodkoeofofekfe3121 going left max. 50cm in a 60K/hr sprint and not closing in anyone, is not veering off. Just replay it around 7:11 at 0.25x speed. Stuyven is really not to blame. If anything, he made sure there was still a sizeable gap between him and the barriers so sprinters could move through on both sides.

May be biased - cause Belgian - but when it comes to positioning before the actual sprint, I believe Wout is one of the best of all time, there are probably 5-6 guys in the peloton who are better sprinters, but he just knows how to position himself every single time
@yakoudbz
@yakoudbz Жыл бұрын
His positioning before the sprint is very good indeed, but I feel like he often starts his sprint a bit too early, and does not really care about giving a shelter to a dozen sprinters stuck to his wheel until one of them overtake him on the line. I think he kinda learned the lesson though and he probably starts early on purpose because he just want to secure a good place for the green jersey...

I watched it several times at a slower speed, it is difficult to understand who is pushing who (they are both pushing each other, and it seems they are keeping their lines more or less). But what's impressive is that Sagan succeeded in passing his handlebar between the two bikes without falling or making somebody else fall! From the helicopter view, you see there is not enough space for a bike standing up, hence the reason why Sagan was leaning on Jakopsen, using the angle to avoid the crash...
