More than half of all motorists have unsuitable driving patterns for Diesels, half pay extra insurance because they park on the road. I'm afraid that's the way the world works. You've got till at least 2050 (assuming maintenance) to keep your petrol car, what is the problem?
@GT380man14 сағат бұрын
@@EbenBransomeagree with you on diesels, but there’s a low cost solution. Consider it part of the maintenance schedule to plan a journey of decent length and moderately high speed periodically. Most of us go somewhere beyond a local bimble periodically. I feel strongly negative about EVs and I have good reasons to hold these opinions.

Maybe the fast "EV days to sell figures" are based on the time from the latest price reduction, which for the cars that sell is when they finally become attractive to a purchaser. Those cars which don't sell after sitting for months or years could then still show a short sell time after their final price reduction. Just a thought.

Excellent vlog Barrie. Whats your thoughts on the pending EV sales short fall, currently 18%, against the UK Government's target of 22% of total 2024 sales to be EV's for vehicle manufacturers? At £15k fine per non EV sales, could equate to millions of £'s of some manufacturers? Will they pay the fines? What will the UK Government do if manufacturers dont pay? How can manufacturers afford to pay these fines? Will this cause manufacturers to pull out of the UK market? Is this issue worth a vlog??

I too am wondering. I saw Tony EV Carnage’s proper piece of journalism on this yesterday. He’s to be congratulated for reporting this at all, because as far as I can tell, nobody in the mainstream media or the trade is drawing attention to it. Extra brownie points to Tony for “showing his working”. The aggregate commercial fine looking a little over £1,000 million. That’s based on no worsening over the next two months. Colder weather is a stronger negative factor for EVs than for ICE, so in the usual course of events, the ratio of all sales that are EVs would be expected to worsen (fall) going into winter.

@@GrahamNewman-mq7gr You know what? I really don't care. We have an EV for the driving benefits, and I expect to keep it till I can't drive any more. I'm sufficiently well off that if it was totalled tomorrow I could just replace it for cash while the insurance got sorted, and not even think about it. A petrol car loses over half its purchase price in the first three years. After the 2008 crash, people leasing often found themselves in negative equity at end of lease. Selling a Diesel in London is like trying to get rid of herpes. If you can't afford to play the game, get out of the casino.

May I be nosy and ask if you own or have access to an ICE car? Personally I’ll decline to own an EV, but I could make a solid use case. It’d be very unusual that, in the usual course of events, that I would ever need to charge up away from home. There’s a psychological barrier which is stronger for some than for others. Apparently, according to several publications based on clinical observations, humans feel a loss about 5X more intensely than they perceive an equal sized gain.

Well prehaps the government should have looked at how much electricity the electricity supply industry can supply before they started pushing electric cars . If they are talking rolling black outs the more electric cars there are plugging in the demand will increase and if the reports in various newspapers are true the supply is already struggling to meet demand.

Got to disagree a bit Barrie. Price might be a factor but the reason I (and I reckon most people) won’t buy an EV is batteries. They have hopeless range - you stick have to stop on average at around 150 miles and spend the best part of of an hour spending a fortune on charging - that’s the main block for me and I cannot have a home charger where I live. Let’s hope that Trump dismantles net zero in the states and then the muppets here will follow suit so we can get away from this nonsense.
@mellarner825312 сағат бұрын
Secondhand EV’s will always be hard to shift, they tend to go to private buyers, who tend to be more savvy, again, many will not have charge at home options, range remains an issue and the risk on the battery without a cast iron and lengthy warranty just makes them far too risky and in a cost of living crisis, not many will take the financial risk. Am ICE is always a risk of course, but much less so.
