I did not expect a Squonk video. Very interesting yet unexpected little critter. Do be careful in the Appalachian mountain areas, a great many Cryptids roam around up there. One of the few most dangerous ones are the Snallyghaster. Large winged reptile like creature that some say is a surviving pterodactyl of some sort. Not to mention the many variations of Bigfoot, some of the clans practise a unique ritual where they roll in clay, sand and pebbles repeatedly until they build up a thick layer to the point where a arrow can be shot at them an the arrow will just fall to the ground unable to penatrate the armor

@@stephenkramer7157 and a good one, I'm just impressed with the lengths the Squonk goes to in order to give a predator every single middle-finger possible. Sure, they can kill it, but they can't really eat it - and if they do, they are going to have a _bad_ time doing so.

The loose skin could also help in fighting back in cases of it ever getting snagged, it might also give it some extra-strength, think of the honey-badger, that uses it's loose strong skin as a protection from leopards, and it uses the looseness of it's skin to still bite while grabbed or bitten.

Maybe you can cover another North American cryptid that many people overlook these days. It’s called the Hide Behind. This creature is known for its tall, lanky black humanoid form. It also is known for its unparalleled speed and stealth. It has even been known to hide behind even the skinniest of objects. I’d imagine this creature to be an evolutionary offshoot of the Gibbon from Asia that ended up in the American woodlands by rafts of wood and vegetation, and being carried by ocean currents. The trees here in North America not what the Gibbons were used to back in their natural habitat, so these Gibbons over time lost the ability to climb trees effectively. They also began to grow much bigger in size both to cover long distances over the woodlands and to intimidate larger predators. The most impressive adaptation they undertook however is there impressive stealth capability’s that allow them to almost disappear in the forest in which they live in. There much skinnier frame does make them quite weak even to human standerds, but it does allow them to hide among or behind even the thinnest of trees. These apes are also exclusively nocturnal, allowing their pitch black hair to camouflage themselves as they stalk there prey. Because they are relatively weak due to trading strength for speed and stealth, they prey on small forest life such as birds, Amphibians, small mammals, and reptiles. They will also eat fruit, vegetables, seeds, and nuts as they are active omnivores. The stalking of humans is not predatory, but rather curiosity. Much like there Asian relatives, the Hide Behind is a very intelligent creature. They have even been known to use simple tools and solve complex problems.

Thank you for taking on this much more light-hearted subject tonight. I've been a fan of the Squonk legend since reading "The Field Guide to North American Monsters" back in the 90s (a book that I should have held on to). I couldn't help but feel sorry for the poor creature, and it's nice to consider that, were it real, we might have gotten its "sadness" all wrong. I would, however, like to propose another explanation for the creature's baggy skin: simple bite defense, which doesn't give a predator's mouth enough flesh & bone to grab hold of. (Fighting-dog breeds like the Shar-Pei have baggy skin on their faces for exactly this reason, or so I've read.)
