The #EU is committed to achieving climate neutrality by 2050. One of the means of achieving this target is the new EU Clean Industrial Deal, which will seek to enable the #decarbonisation of European energy-intensive industries without compromising international competitiveness.
For several industries, including cement, #CO2 capture and storage (CCS) is the only option for #decarbonisation. We will also need to remove CO2 from the atmosphere, in order to balance the CO2 emissions that we cannot reduce. This can be achieved through implementing #CCS in industries like pulp and paper and waste to energy.
However, CCS’ potential hinges on simultaneous and large-scale development across the entire value chain: from wide-scale deployment of CO2 capture projects, to coordination of transport infrastructure, and maturation of CO2 storage.
On 29 January 2025, the #EU-funded #ACCSESS project gathered industry representatives, CCS experts, and policymakers for an open event exploring how we can cooperate to meet the ambitions of the Clean Industrial Deal. In this second part, we examine how we can scale up from single CCS projects to commercially viable deployment, to achieve a decarbonised Europe
Click here for the second part, which explores the current CCS landscape in Europe, and how we can create a predictable environment for industry to invest in decarbonisation technologies: • How can CCS become com...
