Dyspraxia... I just find out today this new word and its amazing how a single word can describe pretty much all my life and release me from feeling guilty that I m not good enough or as good as others are. Also ADD describes myself very good. I have a diagnosis for ADD and I would try to check up for Dyspraxia too.

It's great to hear that you have found a term that accurately describes your experiences. Getting a diagnosis can be helpful in understanding your strengths and challenges and accessing support and resources. If you are interested in getting a dyspraxia diagnosis, it's a good idea to speak with your healthcare provider or a specialist in neurodevelopmental disorders. They can provide guidance and referrals to appropriate assessments and resources.

Embarrassing but I suspect I've always had dyspraxia. Had difficulty learning to read, poor hand writing, took longer learning to tie my shoes, ride a bike and have bad hand eye coordination. Not sure if it's part of dyspraxia but I wet the bed until 13yo. That's the embarrassing part.

Is it possible to have dyspraxia but still get skilled in certain areas that require hand eye coordination? For example I couldn't tie my shoes until the 6th grade, I had trouble writing as a child, and I've always had trouble with utensils. However I became skilled at playing guitar, piano, dribbling a basketball and things like that. I never really struggled with sports either. I have ADHD so I know that increases my chances of having it, but I'm unsure if I actually do.
@ExceptionalIndividuals
@ExceptionalIndividuals Жыл бұрын
Absolutely, it's possible to have dyspraxia and still excel in areas requiring hand-eye coordination. Dyspraxia affects people differently, and some may find that focused practice helps them become skilled in specific tasks. Your experience with ADHD also adds another layer, as the two conditions can overlap. If you're curious, a professional evaluation could provide more clarity. Your story shows that challenges in one area don't define your abilities in others. 🎸🏀 Nat

We completely agree with you. Often the maps on your phone will tell you to go in the other direction for a while until it realises which can be annoying and time-consuming. It's common for people to feel like their experiences are not unique, especially when it comes to symptoms of mental health conditions. However, it's important to remember that everyone's experiences are valid, even if they may be similar to others. It can be helpful to seek support from a mental health professional who can provide a diagnosis and treatment recommendations based on your individual circumstances. You're not alone in your experiences, and reaching out for help is a strength, not a weakness.

I have suspected for a few years that I have dyspraxia....some standard issues as a child such as it took me a long time to learn to tie my shoe laces and learn to ride a bike etc. But I have heard that speach can be affected by dyspraxia and I am interested to find out more. For example, when I am alone (so no need to mask it) I will talk to myself. Basically whatever thoughts are going through my mind at the time seem to just flow out of my mouth at the same time..if that makes sense. Also, when tired I start to find talking difficult and this gets more difficult the tireder I become. So when I am exhausted I cannot speak a sentance coherently and will resort to responding to any person I'm with via text instead - I can happily type out whatever thoughts I have but they will just not easily come out of my mouth. Also starting to suspect ADHD. I have spoken to my GP recently so I am now waiting to find out if they will refer me for an ADHD assessment and I've been given a physio number to call to see if they can assess me for dyspraxia.

Is it possible to have dyspraxia and dyslexia at the same time?
@ExceptionalIndividuals
@ExceptionalIndividuals 7 ай бұрын
@itzovoyar Yes, it is possible to have both dyspraxia and dyslexia at the same time. These conditions can co-occur because they both affect learning and motor skills in different ways. Dyspraxia primarily impacts coordination and motor planning, while dyslexia affects reading and writing skills. Many people experience overlapping symptoms and may benefit from tailored support strategies that address both conditions. If you suspect you have both, seeking a comprehensive evaluation from a specialist can provide clarity and help you access the appropriate resources and support.

It sounds like you're experiencing a range of symptoms, which may or may not be related to your dyslexia and dysgraphia. If you're concerned about your symptoms, I would encourage you to speak with a doctor or mental health professional. @Blackbird47634 It sounds like you've faced many challenges associated with dyspraxia, but it's important to remember that these difficulties don't define your abilities or worth. Dyspraxia can impact various aspects of daily life, from fine motor skills like handwriting to activities requiring coordination like riding a bike. I completely get it and have some inspiration for others in the same boat. My son now 10yrs old, was diagnosed with dyspraxia & dyslexia a few years ago. He struggled in many ways, leading to comfort eating, weight gain, being socially introverted etc. He was overweight, struggling with school/ life and not happy. The way my son felt at a young age I could understand being dyspraxic myself, but I also felt guilt and was desperate to help him. We tried many things, but nothing seemed successful until he started martial arts a year ago. Since doing bjj, kickboxing and judo He has made dramatic improvements in every way!! It brings a tear to my eye, as his father I'm so proud and it's almost like a miracle! He is now happy, healthy, content and confident!!! A completely different boy and I believe will go on to achieve great things. He is proof that having dyspraxia or any type of 'disability' being different does not have to be detrimental to your quality of life or future. I hope this encourages others.
