UPUAN is "chair" in English (sometimes "silya"), which comes from the root word, "upo" which is "sit/to sit" in English. The song refers to those who are seated in power, politicians in general. The rap verses tell the different stories of the plight of the poor and ends it with calling out those seated in power to give attention to the people suffering from rising poverty, implying that they are focused on less important things or even engaged in corruption. That's why it is sung/rapped with passion, frustration and anger. For the ska/reggae song, I am not familiar but it is a message about staying away from drugs and doing better in life. Love you, guys!
@theJonathanSJ10 ай бұрын
5:50 - 8:35. UPUAN by Gloc-9. This song was released in 2009 and the words and meaning still ring true to the Political and Economical standing of the Philippines today. Corruption is so engrained in the system that even though there are some people who are trying to make it better, it is not enough or they couldn't make that big of a difference because the enemy is at every level. It's crazy hoe this song was made 15 years ago now and still very very relevant. At the end I think they tagged another song, sort of like a medley., Or maybe the reggae version actually has that syncopated ending. I'm not sure.

The song that starts at 6:40 is "Upuan" by our respected rapper called "Cloc9." It's actually politically motivated song. Its main aim is to shame and mock the corrupt and greedy government officials of the Philippines. It's a song describing how and why unscrupulous gov't officials are the main reasons why majority of Filipinos are poor and oppressed. It's actually a very good song with powerful message. Wishing for most Filipinos to finally be wiser in voting in the next elections though~ 🥰

I'm not into raps or rapper that much, but as a Filipino we have this Trinity of Filipino Rappers that everyone knows about regardless of their taste in music, and Gloc-9 is one of them. One of the legends! And this song in 5:40 is actually one of his hit songs Upuan. Among the trinity, trifecta or whatever you call these 3, is Andrew E. who sang "Humanap Ka Ng Pangit" and "Banyo Queen" which is an all-time favorite "inuman" (drinking session) songs, and Francis M. (Magalona) who sang "Tayo'y Mga Pinoy", "Mga Kababayan Ko" and one of the best hit songs "Bagsakan" with Gloc 9 along with one of the best Filipino band Parokya ni Edgar. They were the reason why Filipino hiphop scene is flourishing as they brought it on the mainstream when they released their rap albums back in their days.
