Mom of 10 month old who also favored her left! Our doctor recommended and referred us to a pediatric physical therapist. Our daughter ended up getting diagnosed with a mild/moderate case of Torticollis which is a weak muscle in the neck that causes the preferred turning and looking to the one side. It’s hard to explain the different stretches her PT had us do with her but it helped tremendously. We caught it by 2 months and even with that, she had favored her left side so much that she had started developing a slight flat spot on the side of her head and she was in a helmet to correct it for about 2-3 months. My biggest suggestions are to possibly talk to your pediatrician about a physical therapist and in the meantime at home, definitely make sure you’re switching up holding positions so she’s getting pressure on her neck from her less preferred side as it helps stretch and strengthen that opposite side. I hope this helps!! ❤

Health scientist, advanced first aider, ex-physical therapy assistant & ex-midwifery assistant here. SpanishPalace is probably thinking along the right lines. This could be torticollis. Like you say, baby is all cramped up inside you by the time she is born. This can give the baby tight muscles, which can cause a whole number of potential issues. A course of treatment with a chiropractor could do a lot of good. The issue may take a number of treatments to solve, as tight muscles can be stubborn things. But you're definitely thinking along the right lines. The only other thing I would say is to find a chripractor who is known for treating babies. Word of mouth can be a good way of making sure you find the right practitioner for your baby. I personally wouldn't automatically take my own baby to the same chiropractor as me, without hearing from other parents first. With babies being so fragile, you have to be more cautious.

I’ve been working in a chiropractic office for 15+ years. I remember a 2 week old infant that came in because she couldn’t turn her head one way. Mom told me that MD just told her to put her favourite toy on the floor to get her to turn that way, of course that didn’t work. Chiropractic manipulations helped the baby and the doctor was very gentle with the baby too. I would highly recommend seeing a chiropractor. Allie you mentioned that you started seeing a chiropractor recently, you could always ask them during one of your appointments to get their opinion. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

Hey Allie, definitely check out if Indie has torticollis. My oldest daughter had it and favored one side of her body. We didn’t go to a chiropractor because I was a little too scared, but we did physical therapy and it helped tremendously. Check to see if she starts to have flat spots on her head too as that’s a sign that the torticolis (twisted neck) is causing plagiocephaly.

my son was about a month old We ended up having to bring him into a chiropractor for an adjustment. He was having all the same issues as your precious little baby. And I'll tell you what, after the first adjustment, He was a completely different baby. We ended up having to bring him in a couple times after that just to continue care and make sure that everything stayed where it should be. But it gave him so much relief. It was insane. He had incredibly bad acid reflux along with favoring one side more than the other. Discomfort when trying to feed on the side that he did not favor. He was also born with his cord around his neck and born early because of health issues I was having. He is now 4 years old and thriving!!

Another thing I will say is it was incredibly uncomfortable to watch them do the process because he was fussing quite a bit during it. But the difference it made was incredible.

In a video from a little while back, you touched on the subject of taking her in to have her gallbladder checked. Did you get any results from that visit? I know that when gallbladder issues present, laying on the left side can bring relief. That could be a possibility. She's favoring her left because it helps her feel better. Just a thought. Sending love and light. ❤️🩹✨

My oldest who is 22 now had her first “adjustment” at 3 days old. The chiropractor essentially held her in different positions and that equated to an adjustment. Birth is a traumatic experience, even for a baby. So an adjustment ‘first thing’ is absolutely necessary! 💞

For everything colds, growth spurts, stuffiness, stiffness, sleep regressions, EVERYTHING! It’s also just more like applying light pressure, not even really manipulation.

Hi! Just watching your vlog - yes I couldn’t recommend a chiropractor more. My first baby had exactly the same symptoms and I was advised to go to a chiropractor, I was so nervous but I took the advice, after one visit to the chiropractor and all her discomfort was gone. It worked so well that I took all four of my babies to get checked with a chiropractor. Hope this helps, 100% recommend it!

Me too! A chiropractor helped so much. I do recommend one that has done babies for a while. It helped my babies so much. The fussiness went away they started breastfeeding better they started sleeping better and so much more. I took mine as much as the Dr thought they needed. I say go for it. My babies are adults now and still go. They have been going since day 6 of being born. All 3 of them love it! None have issues in their lives so far. I would recommend it for sure. A lot of regular doctors will tell you no and suggest PT. I say PT sucked and did nothing to help. PT does not do the whole body. IMO

I hope you guys see this!! Please have your pediatrician refer you to the infant toddler program!! She will get a physical therapy assessment and I 100% would go with physical therapy over chiropractor …😬 At least try that first. I’m really thinking it’s torticollis (like the health scientist mentioned in a comment. I used to work for infant toddler program AND my son had torticollis (27yrs ago… We did not know nearly as much as what is known now). Physical therapy is the way to go and the infant toddler program is a federally mandated program available to all children under the age of 3. Ask your pediatrician! Best of luck!

He’s walking and using both sides now at 11 months old So that’s possibly something you could take to indies pediatrician too if there is some like physical therapist that specializes in pediatrics locally or even just nearby that helped us so much!

Poor Allie 😂 thought for sure she was going to get sick! I would ask the baby's doctor about acid reflux. My yougest daughter had it. Babies can get it just like adults. They become fussy, not want to eat, get upset stomachs (ranging from a little spit up to projectile vomiting), less pee/poo in the diaper to nothing at all (because their not getting fluids), sunken eyes, and lethargy (lack of nourishment). Acid relux for babies can be mistaken for the common cold/flu as it presents (symptoms) like the same. The best way to rule this out is x-ray/CT SCAN, and the baby will get barium in place of a feeding, and as the baby drinking the barium, the doctors (gastrongist) will watch the bairum move through the baby and see if theirs any issues. If you feel in your gut that something is "off" please listen it to it. You & Charles know your babies best.

Dont go go a Chiropractor! Baby manipulation at a chiro is not evidence based. Cracky backy and manipulation is woo woo. Not evidence based at all. Alternative medicine and babies have been injured and even broken necks from this. The pediatrician will agree See a pediatric physio etc. People will argue against this and recommend, but from an evidence and safety point of view- it's just not there to support the use.

I’m not trying to tell you what to do, you are ultimately her parents. However I did speak to a paediatric orthopaedic surgeon and this is what he told me. “Early manipulation of a baby's spine could damage the delicate vertebral cartilage and cause the spinal growth plates to experience future problems”
@JulieLorraine13 күн бұрын
My medical advise is to take her to your paediatrician and tell them your concerns. They can refer you to a medical paediatric specialist. But, as I said you are her parents’ you do what you feel is best. It’s so difficult with our babies bc they can’t tell us what’s wrong and we feel so much guilt.
@JulieLorraine13 күн бұрын
Also this: Position your baby in the crib or changing table so that activities in the room encourage baby to look away from the preferred side. Hold toys or talk to your baby in a way that causes baby to look in the direction that neck mobility is limited. Limit the amount of time your baby spends in places where the head is likely to rest in the same spot, like a swing, bouncy seat, or car seat. Additionally, using a head support may help with aligning your baby’s head while in the car seat. Hold your baby at your shoulder or chest to encourage lifting and turning away from the preferred side. Tummy time! Tummy time will help develop your baby’s neck and upper body strength, along with developing adequate tone needed for rolling, reaching, sitting, and crawling.

Two of my kids who are now 1 years old and almost 3 years old, they both had in half something called torticollis which is basically like having a crick in the neck and they favor one side of their body over the other because they can't turn their head to the other side without being in pain. Anyway, they ended up needing to go to a massage specialist who massages babies and children and also physical therapy. My son who is almost three, he benefited so well from the massages and the physical therapy. My daughter however who is one, she has to have surgery on her neck because we can't get the torticollis to go away. She also has a genetic disorder that we just found out about that can cause a lot of issues but anyway, every one of the specialists helping out with my daughter's care and her pediatrician have stated that going to a chiropractor for a baby is dangerous. They told me to never ever go because I brought up maybe a chiropractor can help with my babies torticollis and they absolutely said no unless we want to make it worse for her. That is about 20 people that have said do not do it so I'm not going to do that for my daughter but, if you do, stay safe which I know you will.

They are very gentle from what videos I’ve seen, nothing super scary like the adult ones. But I know for myself I get into a lot of pain when I’m misaligned, so it would be good to just check out and good thing is you can always stop if you’re not comfortable with the doc doing things and be vocal about that before you start. Like have him explain what’s he’s about to do each thing.
