If you are a PhD candidate… and completed your PhD you can easily apply for Permanent residency.. and yes with marraige you can also apply for permanent residency

You can get chinese PR (5 stars card) but you can't get nationality

You can't apply for a family visa until you are not married ..so your best bet is going there by study visa or business visa ... The only benefit of marriage visa in china is that you can stay in china as long as you want and maybe apply for PR in future ...while on marriage visa you can apply to any university and get a study visa or apply for a job to get a work visa
