Religious publishing is a billion-dollar industry, dominated by Christian Bible publishers. While most people think of the text of the Bible as unchanging, in reality, Publishers can and do introduce changes to the text to influence readers to interpret passages in certain ways. As well as this Publishers try to sell Bibles and study bibles for every niche - often including supplementary material that aims to influence the way you read the next. There's many examples from the American Patriots Bible to the brand new Trump Bible; Bibles for creationists, housewives, husbands, leaders - any niche you can think of. Sociologist Professor Samue Perry explains how these publishers and translation teams can influence readers in unexpected ways.

The fact that section divisions and headers are editorial additions is kind of a big deal, I think, and the average reader doesn't realize that.

Liberal secular ideas seem to go into translations like the NRSVue in ways that do not really make it more accurate but rather to allow the text to fit modern sensibilities. I honestly can’t find an English translation that does not swing one way or the other.

Well obviously the publishers are moved by tHe sPIriT to put the section headings where it suits their focus group’s predetermined doctrines.

One of many reasons why I say the Bible is a man made book. It’s not inerrant. Not only are the modern editorial changes full of bias… but for that exact reason why should we even buy into and believe that the original “inspired” writers of the Bible weren’t also biased and giving their own cultural or political spins at the time? If God isn’t necessarily protecting the integrity of the ideas weaved into the Bible today by humans, then why are we sure he was protecting the integrity of those writing and comprising it at the time of its inception and concoction? There’s no logical reason to believe that it’s anything other than filled with human bias whether you decide to believe in God or not.

What even is “THE Bible” to you then? Is it some idea? Which bible are you even referring to? It’s not rational to reject the original claim of something because there are later corruptions of it. You certainly don’t do that with the government regardless of governmental corruption. You simply vote for those who aren’t corrupt.

@@petros-estin-petra-by that logic you’ve never read the Scriptures. Every version you ever read was a translation, so you’re saying what you’ve read isn’t “God Breathed” whatever that means.
