And for black female characters the makeup rarely looks good. All the shades are catered to white skin. Even the hair colors are catered to white skin. The black hair and eyebrows usually looks grey on dark skinned characters. My biggest pet peeve with Cyberpunk 2077 is the white girl voice for my character who looks like Lauryn Hill mixed with Foxy Brown but has to talk like a white teenager that smokes cigarettes.

Actually, you'd be surprised with the smaller games. I voiced a complaint about not having enough options for my black character with a smaller gaming company once, and they actually responded on the same day, and came up with a patch within a few days on their Facebook page XD Did the patch help? Nah, but it was still a cool experience 😂😂😂. Now they're pretty big now, though, and they have better support for character customization for blacks. I feel like I did my part for the black community-at least when it comes to My Time at Portia/My Time at Sandrock 😂😂😂

And they you finally get into the game, and the lighting makes your character look like two floating eyeballs because the lighting is only designed for light-skinned characters. Mass Effect Legendary Edition added some darker skin tones but the opening scenes on the Normandy made it quite clear it was not programmed with that in mind.

Although I agree customization creates more gameplay, I don't understand why you need to play a game with a character that looks like you. That seems to reflect a very low level of self-esteem. If you feel so insecure about yourself that rely on video games characters, which are by nature a fun, immersive, fantasy, to look like you so that you can enjoy game play demonstrates a misplaced, tribalist, small-minded ideology. That person doesn't look like me so I cannot enjoy the gameplay? Many games don't even have humans as playable characters. So what do you do in those cases? You don't play? Of all the games that I have played in my life which allow either character selection or customizable characters I have NEVER selected a character that looks like me. I try to create the most outlandish, dissimilar look. Why? Because I am playing a game and I am having fun. It's a fantasy. I am not having an extensional crisis nor trying to derive self-worth from a video game character.

Honestly, never liked hairstyles in most games in general even for "white" hairstyles. It's actually just anime hairstyles. A lot just look like straight-up tacky wigs or dumb looking things that look like their mom cut it for the first time and bowl cuts. Then they add a lot of balding options or monk hairstyles and some weird over the top things. I can't think of too many games where I actually like the hairstyles with player-created characters that I didn't want to just slap a hat on. Same with faces. You go from 14 year old to 60 year old goblin. The in-between is mal-nutritioned.

I'm really glad to see this video as a skit, and at the same time, really glad that the overwhelming majority of games I have played that had options to create characters that happen to be black, did not at all have the issue portrayed in this game.
