Same reason why I stopped. It seems like he prides himself on being intelligent and bold enough to talk about things that most (nonblack) ppl wouldn't and having unique takes on situations. But it seems like he gets lost in his delusions of how significant his thoughts are to the point of sounding dumb or disagreeable just for the sake of being contrarian or edgy. He has his good/funny moments and does have some unique thoughts. But in general he is too eager to talk about shit he has no understanding of and never admits he's wrong. Plus the fact his audience probably has even less understanding of the topics he discusses and is less intelligent than him.. makes his platform/comments all feel a bit toxic. It’s clearly obvious that Charlemagne is threatened by the likes of Joe Budden and Nick Cannon (he had similar degrading comments about Nick and his podcast and social commentary platforms as well). Joe and Nick have just enough if not more pull then Charlemagne in the hip hop media industry. So if he sees that, he’s 100% not going to waste an opportunity to kick you when you’re down. He’s clearly bothered by another black man in his line of work that’s doing just as good as him if not better. Hence why he’s always bigging up black women because he knows they aren’t in his lane and if he has black women on his side, he wins in the public social commentary realm. When the whole Tommy Lauren incident happened and him disrespecting black women in the same breath, that’s when Charlemagne switched up his image and randomly preached about mental health 24/7 and strictly uplifting black women. If he never took the high road and apologized and changed his image, his career would’ve been DONE! He even stopped saying “black men don’t cheat” because even that comes off as insensitive towards the thousands of black women who were cheated on (check the last Monica interview). It took a while for people to look at Charlemagne in this new light, but hey, it’s working. Look at how successful he is today. Someone that doesn’t know his past, would’ve never known he was a sexiest, misogynistic, creep/womanizer that he “once was”.
