Cascais is a more of a posh town so it can have higher priced places too but if you go with locals as you did, they will show you the best value bars, cafes and restaurants.

1:35- Interesting that in Iran the fruit called orange is called 'portugal'! BTW, the English term for 'orange' was derived from the Spanish word 'naranja' (nah-RAHN-hah) which comes from the older Arabic word 'naranj' which derived from the Persian word 'naranga-s' which meant 'orange tree'! Of course, Portuguese has to be different from Castillian Spanish orange so in Portugal it's called 'laranja' [lah-RAHN-ha] . Regardless, there's no language barrier for folks enjoying oranges and fresh-squeezed orange juice on the Iberian Peninsula, the Arabian Peninsula or Iran!

Funny how in my state its called naranga in malayalam
@wardarcade74526 сағат бұрын
@@thanveermohammed7105 That's interesting! I wonder how that came to be since Karala was occupied by the Portuguese [who call it 'laranja'} then the Dutch [who call it 'sinesappel'-Chinese apple] before the time of the British occupation so I'm wondering when oranges were first introduced there and why they got tagged something sounding so close to the Spanish form!

Hey drew, the name for orange in arabic is burtuqal. When the north african muslims controled the Iberian Peninsula (what is now Spain and Portugal), they named the region of Portugal burtuqal because of the ammount of orange trees in the area! So portugal is actually named after oranges, portugal did not bring the oranges into the middle east:)
@pedromiguellima4374 Жыл бұрын
Wrong. "Portugal" does not come from Burtuqal or any orange tree. Portus is the latin word for Port and Cale was a region in the north of Portugal. Together it gives you Portugal.

I love chourico, for those who don't know. It's a lot like linguisa and Mexican chorizo. Except it's cured and smoked so its precooked. It tends to be much spicier too and is made with red wine. It tastes very gamey compared to meat most Americans are use to. It's chewy and has some bounce. The Spanish and others tend to grind the meat more finely to combat this but it's something you really learn to appreciate. It's outstanding on a pizza or fried with eggs.

Also the Portuguese are very proud people lol. Any accent they hear in there language and they'll have a stroke. The azores are a group of small Portuguese islands. Each island has their own accent and they all think theyre Portuguese is the correct Portuguese.
