We just visited Porto & can attest that it is charming !! Have dinner at VINUM at the Grahams Port warehouse in Gaia, on the other side of the Douro river. The nighttime view on Porto is magnificent and will enhance an excellent meal. 👍

They let dogs poo all over the pavement without penalty and then because they allow bikes to ride on the pavement there are trails of poo everywhere. Not to mention the culture of spitting in public being acceptable. I expect u never lived there.

I grew up watching Jamie Oliver’s cooking shows with my grandma. It’s one of my most cherished memories. She didn’t live long enough to see him go to her hometown and drink wine with her son’s neighbour ( the port winemaker lives in our building and has been a good family friend for many years now ) ! Take the kids sometime, check otu the river beaches, there is really nothing like it, avoid August. My father was a fisherman and he used to say that eating sardines with a knife and a fork would ruin the flavour. Traditionally, sardines just like carapaus (mackerel?), is eaten with your fingers and with the fish over a slice of bread. In the end we eat the bread too. We kept this tradition from the middle ages.

Cheers and glad you liked my adopted city!!! ☺ ☺ Also, The Majestic Cafe is a treasure inside and out and is one of the oldest coffee shops in the country. I have only been once but fell in 😍 😍 Edited: I watched almost all the way through and thought you might be forgetting about the Francesinha but then ya got there =) I am not a big fan of this heartstopper but I KNOW most Portuense ADORE this dish!!!

We bought our home in Portugal in 2003, renovated it and moved back to the UK two years later to work and earn. We came back at every opportunity before moving permanently in 2013. Even if we won the Euro-Millions, there is no power on Earth could get me to leave our beautiful mountain home. Wonderful Portuguese neighbours and our loving Portuguese and Spanish friends are irreplaceable. There is no place like home.

I'm quite glad you're spreading the word about my hometown. It's a city from about 200 B.C.! It's so rich in culinary diversity, traditions, architecture. Its first name was "Portus Cale" (warm harbor), which gave our country the name Portugal. You went to some of my favorite places. To me, there's nothing like eating fish in Afurada. People are very friendly, genuine. It's such a shame Spain takes all the credit for our best products. It's about time we get our incredibly dishes and tourist sites out there. Had I known you were coming here, and I would have provided you with some family warm welcome and meals, full of TLC. Thank you, Jamie, you're such a nice star. PS - 1:27 That António is awesome!! This is just a drop in the ocean about Portugal food wine and spirits....Portugal is the most complete country in the world where you could find the best of everything. Prove me if I'm wrong.

Thank you Jamie for showing our cuisine. We as Portuguese know that we have one of the best cuisines in the world and it's chefs like you that help to show it to the world because the Portuguese are too humble to do it. Next time do it like a tripeiro ( the gentle name for Porto citizens ) and try a snack called bifana at "Conga Snack Bar" and the pork leg sandwich with mountain cheese in a place called "Casa Guedes". You are in for a treat... And also, thanks for not calling Porto, O-Porto.😉
