Thank you for talking about this. Child support makes it more likely that parents fight over custody. If there was no chance of getting child support many bad parents would let the other parent take responsibility. Everybody wins, especially the child

After my parents divorced, my mom let me know much later that she let my dad miss his CS payments when he was jobless/unable to pay. I'm not sure how that works with the system, but it was good of her to do that. We did well enough since she worked and we lived frugally. I'm glad they had a good divorce!

The state government makes $0.66 for every dollar of child support from the federal government. Where is their incentive to help out and lower payments?

I know of a woman with 3 baby daddies on Welfare driving a NEW Mercedes Benz . She is making the car payments with Child Support. So the kids get nothing and she drives a Benz living on the tax payers dime in section 8 housing getting Food Stamps.

Absolutely disgusting, the mother. This just goes against the whole point of child support. How do they prevent such abuse from happening?

@@ChristmasCarolynWomen actually plan on it. My sister is a High School teacher and the girls are always picking who is going be their Baby Daddy based on what type of job their boyfriend has . this has been going on since the early 90's.

If a man is the sole breadwinner and tells his wife "we can't afford that" this is "financial abuse" but when a woman has her husband dragged off to prison by armed men for not giving her money this is the law.

It was your CHOICE to be fired? To a degree it might be true in some situations, but for a business that was downsizing or in states that are fire-at-will employers, that wasn't your choice at all. Add on the fact that you can get prison time for civil matters and are in all regards labelled a "criminal" without going through the criminal process with all the rights you'd normally have, that sounds like a mismanaged case. Oh, and your debt keeps growing while you serve your sentence. Meanwhile, the kid still isn't receiving the money the parent is supposed to be giving them.
