VIDEO INTRODUCTION:
In 2013, the Chinese president Xijing made an announcement that took the entire world by surprise. This is when He made the announcement of something called the Belt and Road initiative and this initiative is by far the most crucial project that its going to cost China 1-8 trillion dollars, will take 27 years to be completed, involves 146 nations including major countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE and Russia and most importantly, it will make China the most powerful nation in the world!!! and as much as it scares me to say, but if the Belt and Road initiative goes well, India will be nowhere I repeat Nowhere close to China!!
So in perhaps the most important geopolitical episode of Think School, let’s try to understand,
What is exactly is the Belt and Road initiative?
How will this make China a global superpower?
and most importantly, what are the study materials that can help you understand China’s Masterplan better so that you can keep a check on what India is doing to counter it?

As a Singaporean, I would like to say we are not strictly speaking fully a 'US ally', there is no way that we would opt to block China's route through the Straits of Malacca, nor would we ever choose to do so. Official policy of Singapore government wishes to appease both US and China. Furthermore Singapore has a huge (>75%) ethnic Chinese population and polls conducted actually suggest many Singaporeans have good feelings towards China.

I think one critical factor that you missed about how powerful a country can be in the world is not just how it gets its natural resources but what it can do for the other nations around the world. Expanding on what you can do rather than limiting what the other country can do is what you should think as the most important priority. When you mentioned about TW's semi conductor industry, then it is true that majority of high end chips are coming from TW we are talking about nearly 90% but less than 5% of them are actually in use in devices like mobile devices and computing devices. If there is a war between Taiwan and China, Taiwan will be much worse off than Ukraine in its current war with China, the range of China's conventional arm is much more devastating than what Russian has. And you highlighted 800 US bases around the world but just how many wars has US won since the end of WW2? Zero, yes, Zero. At 7:46 mark you have told an absolute lie, when Sri Lanka first finance the loan it was 6.3% and then it was refinance through Export and Import bank of China at 2%. Also when you making claimed such as this, did you actually pay close attention to Sri Lanka's overall debt matrix? I doubted, because almost 50% of Sri Lanka's debt were to western lenders which with bonds and other form of credit charging an interest of 5-8% per year. At 8:28 mark you are making assumption without anything based on proven facts. The interest rate you quote again is incorrect. Did you have a chance to ask Sri Lanka about this port and who own the port? I can tell you it is Sri Lanka port authority that owns the port, the lease of port was to allow Sri Lanka having 1.4 billion dollars in 2017. What is also known is Sri Lanka spent about 5% of its loan repayments to service its Chinese debt while it is paying nearly 70% of its repayment to service 50% of its debt to Westen lenders. China does not hold majority stake in Djibouti it is a port shared with US military. You have so much inaccuracy in your research.

@AnonymousReader-er4eg
@AnonymousReader-er4eg 2 жыл бұрын
@@pcphunter6071 , yeah, "defensive", right... The first island chain was a US response to China's Communist Revolution. The US were the first to put their military bases (in their loyal client-states, also referred to as "dogs" or "boot-lickers" in China, due to their desperation for US aid and technology) near China, so China is simply defending her own national security. China isn't even communist today, socially yes, but the policies and economics aren't even communist anymore. China only calls itself "communist" for overemphasis on “historical continuity”. There wasn't a reason to keep the first island chain because China wasn't communist anymore by the 70s and 80s, but for some reason, the America kept it, because a) they were afraid of a new superpower rising and b) they wanted to piss off the Chinese. Why does the US care about China claiming the South China Sea? To this day, the US still has disputes in the Gulf of Mexico, due to the presence of oil in the region. Why does the US care about China claiming Xinjiang and Tibet? They claim "ethnic cleansing", but the population of minority ethnic groups in those regions have actually increased! Didn't the US illegally annex California and actually ethnically cleanse the dozens of tribes living there? Why does the US care about China claiming Taiwan? Didn't the US steal Texas from Mexico? Texas was never part of the US, but Taiwan was legally part of China for millennia. Taiwan to China is what the Falklands is to Argentina. Imagine if China built military bases in Cuba or Mexico or Hawaii. The US would defy it and say that "America is being defensive". But when China defies the US presence near their borders, hypocritical apologists of Western hegemony say that "China is being expansionist. The US is just afraid of the possibility that China will supplant them as a geopolitical superpower. Harder you try to stay at the top, the harder you'll come falling down. China and India have always been the superpowers. Europe and America don't want it to return to that, so they'll try every method, through their corrupt institutions, namely the WTO and IMF, to stunt growth in all other countries.

Well as much as i hate Chinese government, I do have to agree they are highly skilled strategists. India should organise mandatory classes on geopolitics for our government officials. Edit : hey don't get me wrong, I didn't said that India doesn't have good diplomats, we have some of the best like Mr Jayashankar and our PM etc etc. What I meant to say is to not learn from what China did wrong,no we don't have to steep so low, instead learn how to make things work even if our govt changes every 5 years, we have to have even more good and strategic diplomats cz there are JUST NOT ENOUGH, don't you think if we would have had so many good ones (like people saying in the comments) our country's soft power would be much more than it is today? Think about that. I'm not saying there aren't any, I'm just saying there are not enough and most of them don't have good strategies and that's a fact, it's better to accept the reality and work on it instead of ignoring it.

Awesome insights into various geopolitical nitty gritties. India also controls something called the 9-degree channel in the lakshadweep islands, which accounts for almost all trade to east asia including china, which could be leveraged in war time.

would highly appreciate your views on the regarding topics My views on the whole China thing 1. ) See guys in very small countries and in underdeveloped countries of Africa, all that the west has done in 100s of years is give them 'aid' instead of development. China on the other hand is undertaking massive projects developing their infra because of which they had to lease their assets for say 99 years. Which case do you thinks is better? If there's no investment these countries will anyways not develop in the 99 years, So isnt it better that they develop infra, lease their assets for a time period and then it is all theirs👀 2.) China seems to be the only country currently who can keep a balance with the US. And if opponents are equal, no country would try to get excess dominance in fear of the other 3.) And the most important thing I agree that china would massively benefit from the BRI but dont you think it would open easy trade opportunities for those 146 countries from which it passes through?🤔 After all even they can use those roads

The road is on Iran's territory afterall. Moreover it is not the case. Those trade routes can be used by everyone. There are proper legal agreements before countries allow china to build the infra projects... I mean isnt it logical? Why would 146 countries agreee to literally give up their land to china for free?👀

African nations are institutionally weak, corruption is rampant, tribal wars and genocide happen all the time. Hence providing them loans is not prudent as they'd never have the capacity to pay it back. That's why western nations or global institutions don't extend generous loans to them as it would actually pain the citizens in the long run; only aid is offered. China takes the advantage of this situation and provides loan easily but at exorbitant rates. They don't generally repay and China takes the strategic assets in their countries. In the end people suffer.

Do these countries lose the right of access to required capital just because they are located in Africa? True. Most of the current government's resources are being directed to fixing past mistakes. We'll catch up in maybe few years.... No probs.

PM Awas yojana 4. Sanitation projects 5. 5000+ crore on ads Wasting tax payers instead of using it in for infrastructure projects.

It is funny that this reporter is taking the view that the BRI is to counter India or US. In fact India was invited but refuse to join in the trade so was the RCEP. This was the extension of the ancient trade route. No one is force to join or leave. Everyone that joined, joined on their own accord. There wasn't any sanctions applied on any country that didn't join 😊.

Also Myanmar+Nepal+Bangladesh; special subsidies to Bangladesh and Millitary rule in Myanmar, plus full interference in Nepalese Politics 🚫 Bhutan started talks with China for the first time in its History because India failed to protect its territory from China

As much as I remember China stepped back in doklam and we protected Bhutan. Bhutan has started talking China because India wanted to settle border disputes between China and Bhutan through talks if possible. Again when Bhutan will need India's help India will be there to help.

China has one party rule and it is easy for a single government to tackle a situation while in India no one is working for the country but for their respective parties.
