China’s mighty dragon J-20 stealth fighter jet aims to outmatch the American F-35 and F-22 fighters, it wants to dominate the skies over the South China Sea and ensure air superiority in the event of a war with the United States. but is it really all that great or is it just a cheap Aliexpress knock off version? To be fair, Xi Jinping's air force is getting a large part of the beefed up modernization budget and it appears to be paying off in some ways. Experts estimate China to have at least 200 J-20s in service today. So this isn’t one of those adversarial weapons that we hear will exist one day in the far distance like Russia’s T-14 armata tank, nope this thing is actually here already.
And these are exactly the kind of interceptor jets that are deployed in incidents like In August 2022, when their air forces responded to Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan by breaking records with 446 aircraft incursion into Taiwan airspace in a single month. But are any of the J-20’s capabilities unique or did China tactically acquire all of them? Tactically acquire is a lower enlisted way of saying steal it. Although this time its not just the United States claiming the jet was stolen Russia is also crying foul. We’ll also speculate on whether or not American radar systems detect this new Chinese stealth fighter, And how is the J-20 optimized for anti-access area denial - which is China’s main strategy and tactic for dominating in the South China Sea.

I appreciate your recognizing that the Chinese manufacturing process is home-grown. As a former industrial engineer I am disappointed with US failure to put as much effort into manufacturing as we do into R&D or trying to boost stock prices. Moreover, I've worked with Chinese researchers, engineers, and medical professionals much of my life. The Chinese people I know get ahead because they are smart and work hard. History has proven the Chinese lack the creativity and capacity for innovation and development, all of their modern technologies and advances are built off the back of pre-discovered tech. Even inventions attributed to them such as paper and blackpoweder aren't linked to the modern han-chinese (despite how much they claim it is) but were thanks to the ancient Chinese whom were mongol in origin, and even then when they apparently invented the compass it took decades for it to actually be used for navigation since the Chinese only used it for their "medicine"

Shut down by Russian missiles system created in early 60s combined with old type chinese radar. Seemed that F-117 was not invisible at all? "Sorry, we didnt know it was invisible" was Serbian reaction. After this war F-117 was put out of service, even this was first plain lost. stealth doesn't make an aircraft invisible, just very hard to get a lock on or keep lock. It'd likely look like something popping on and off your radar screen as the aspect changes and you get more or less radar return. Also as we know certain track radars can detect stealth aircraft, but lack the accuracy for a lock. They can detect it, so i highly doubt a J-20 flew over Taiwan without them noticing. It's probably more likely the pilot in question turned off his RWR, went super sonic, sped quickly over Taiwan(or likely one of their islands) and wasn't intercepted therefore says they didn't detect him because he doesn't really know. So technically he could say that. But ya, not true.
@oryxland3994
@oryxland3994 Жыл бұрын
The part of overflying Taiwan without being detected is utter garbage. How much signal return you get from a stealth aircraft depends on the aspect your radar is towards the jet. Since the J-20's would have at some point flown over directly over the island Taiwan's air defense radars would at some point be looking almost directly up at the underside of the aircraft fuselage. That's one of the worst aspects for a stealth aircraft and generates some of the largest signal returns as it's a way bigger surface areas than looking at an aircraft from the front or rear. The Chinese aircraft were detected no doubt.

@oryxland3994
@oryxland3994 Жыл бұрын
@@kongwee1978 Yaaa the problem with that is jamming radars using airborne electronic assets tends to alert an air defense system that someone is in the area. As well it's not some sort of "jam radar now" magic button which renders any radar useless, you might have reduced range and reduced ability to identify the target. It will also cause any radar on side doing the jamming issues as well affecting their own aircrafts ability to acquire targets. If jamming a radar was as such a sure thing taking out enemy air defense systems wouldn't be one of the hardest and most dangerous missions for a combat aircraft.

Also it's know to work best against the jehadis. On the eastern border IA has been issuing battle rifles in the form of Sigs and probably soon the Ishapore rifle. When firing from one mountain top to another 7.62x54 works wonder. They only stupid thing they did is rejecting the Trichy rifle in favour of the Ak203, nobody's hitting targets over 200m with an AK, especially when IA still doesn't get the concept of optics even today. For mounts and everything, SSS defence already has a AK modernisation kit which is dope. The SU-57 is a tad bit better than the F-22 and both are marginally better in theory to an F-35 in dog fighting. But all of this is irrelevant due to F-35s far out doing either plain in BVR combat, oh and there are 650+ F-35s vs the 16 SU-57s. The J-20 is utter trash compared to all of them especially considering it is not even capable of dog fighting. China's tech and manufacturing revolution is incredibly impressive. This is a nation that went from being a poor, third world country in civil war to being one of the leading nations in the world over the space of less than 80 years. The only comparable leap forward is the Japanese modernization program. What the US should be taking note of is that both nations have pushed rapid modernization for similar reasons: the avenging of perceived humiliations. Unlike the Japanese, the Chinese have massive reserves of natural resources, as well as an ally (Russia) that can meet their fuel needs). China also has a larger population and larger industrial base. This makes the Chinese an exponentially more dangerous threat than the Japanese in the 1930's/40's.

Instead, it has tended to maintain friendly relations with neighboring smaller countries through tribute systems. Please do not equate China with the United States. The U.S. holds its position through global military dominance, while China's rise is based on the hard work of its people and the production of affordable, high-quality industrial and consumer goods.

@@robertz4822 your view of China is through incredibly rose-tinted goggles. You're completely ignoring violent repressions of minority groups within their own borders, not to mention the large-scale Chinese military intervention in Korea, to say nothing of the occupation of Tibet and repression of Buddhist monks there. These actions show that China is more than willing to use military force to further its interests around the world, the same as the US or any other power. The reason that China has not done so is that they lack the force projection capabilities that would make these types of operations feasible and right now their economy is too shaky to support a prolonged military conflict. Your assessment of their economy is similarly tinted by rosy lens and little reality. China is far from some utopian worker's paradise. The reality is that China, like most developing industrial nations, exploits the hell out of the vast majority of its population in the name of economic growth. Similarly, China's economy is not at all as strong as a lot of people seem to think. It's very large, but it's also quite fragile right now with the collapse of its real estate market. Lastly, China is a US rival because its desired sphere of influence conflicts directly with US interests in East Asia. Mostly this concerns the status of Taiwan, which is economically and strategically important for the United States. Like all world powers, the US has substantial overseas interests and Taiwan is probably one of the most important of those. These interests directly impact the US economy and infrastructure in a way that we could not risk allowing them to fall into the hands of a hostile/rival power. Hence, since Chinese interests conflict with US interests and since China has a track record of using force to further its interests, China is considered a major military rival for the US.

Hey, let's take a step back and see the big picture about China: 1. **History Check**: China isn’t about conquering and expanding. They've had their issues, sure, but nothing like old-school colonial conquests. And that whole thing about Tibet? Remember, Tibet had its own set of problems before China stepped in.Before the People's Liberation Army came in, Tibetans were serfs. Hierarch even used skulls for wine and skins for drums in their rituals. Pretty wild, right? If you're curious, dig into it more yourself. 2. **Hard Work Pays**: China's booming because of its hard-working people, not because they're pushing others around. Their rise? It's more about gadgets and goods, less about guns and soldiers. 3. **Taiwan Talk**: Taiwan is super close to China's heart. Imagine someone from outside telling you how to deal with your family matters. That's how China feels about the U.S.'s involvement. 4. **Making Friends, Not Wars**: Look at China's recent moves - it's all about trade and deals, not battles and military shows. That big Belt and Road thing? That's them trying to make trade buddies. 5. **Internal vs. Global**: Just because a country has internal issues doesn't mean they're out to start world wars. China’s focus? Selling stuff, not military showdowns. 6. **Compared to the West**: Hey, the West has its own list of conquests and colonies. Compared to that, China's tribute system was more about business than bossing around. To wrap it up: China's story is more about growth and commerce than aggression. Maybe it's time we have a chat with them, instead of just pointing fingers.@@aesirgaming1014

The size of an aircraft has very little to do with how stealthy it might be. For illustration, the largest contributors to the frontal radar signatures of the F-22 and F-35 are their pitot tubes, which most people don't even notice.

As a matter of fact the bigger the stealth airplane the harder it is for targeting radar to get a lock. So in this case the bigger the better. This is due to RF resonance effects.
@rbrtck
@rbrtck 11 ай бұрын
@@bobsmith3983 I decided not to go there, but you are correct. Perhaps the easiest-to-understand way to illustrate this is that the shorter the wavelength of the electromagnetic radiation, the higher the resolution. Visible light consists of such tiny wavelengths that its resolution is super high, which is why stealth fighters are easily visible in light. We can see every little detail, even the texture of the coatings, so there is no hiding it from light with just shaping. But targeting radar wavelengths are much longer and their lower resolution is such that the special shaping of stealth renders them nearly invisible (not really, but much, much harder to detect, in any case). However, really long radar wavelengths intended for long-range detection and early warning have such low resolution that any plane that is small enough effectively appears as a point reflection, regardless of its shape. This kind of radar can't even "see" how it's shaped, it's just there. This negates stealth shaping, although the larger the stealth plane, the longer the wavelength of the radar has to be in order to easily detect it, and that's hard to do because long-wavelength radar requires enormous, easily targeted, and hard-to-replace antennas. And its resolution is so bad that targeting is totally out of the question. Now, this is a gross oversimplification of the physics involved, but hopefully this gives most people some kind of intuitive sense of why stealth is more effective the larger a plane is. This is true even for a given wavelength against which two planes are both stealthy. The larger plane always has more potential for stealth. Whether it actually is stealthier or not depends on many factors and is therefore a whole other question, but all else being equal (which they usually aren't, but if they were), the larger plane will be stealthier to some degree. That said, the difference is not huge because even the largest stealth planes are only so large.

The AIM-260 is just starting production, and it is expected to be fully operational by 2027. The reason why it took it so long to the U.S., is because they intended to design it to be dimentionally similar to the AIM-120, while the Chinese PL-15 and Russian R-37 are twice and thrice as wide, respectively; and nearly half a meter longer than the AIM-120. The U.S. gives importance to making compact missiles to avoid the need of retrofitting aircraft, and to allow aircraft to carry more missiles for less weight. Russia and China just went ahead to make their missiles bigger to reach their intended range. If China had the ability to make smaller missiles, the J-20 would be much smaller, or it'd be the same size while carrying more missiles

In fact, when people mock the quality issues of Chinese manufacturing, they do not realize how long the world market has been occupied by Chinese manufacturing. Many of our daily necessities and electronic products are made in China, and they may mock one or two extremely cheap products with poor quality, but more products are selectively ignored because most of the products produced by well-known manufacturers and companies are of completely qualified quality, But before these products have quality problems, people will never notice that they are even made in China. I mean’s. when the market is full of Chinese made products, the number of quality problems in Chinese products will naturally increase. However, compared to the large scale of Chinese made products, this proportion is very small, but Chinese made products can occupy the market, It indicates that under the operating laws of the free market, it can withstand tests. So, looking at everything in your own homes, how much is produced in the United States and Europe? I think many of the items in your home that have been in use for a while are made in China, as well as some come from Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries. Even if many products are not made in China, you will find many parts from China after opening them, and you will not complain about the quality of these junk items from China until you know that they come from China. Just like the US military recently complained that some parts of the F35 fighter jet came from China. But these are not the key points.
