CM Punk won't hurt their deal, but firing him will. All he did was do an interview where he was proven to have told the truth. Whether you think he was unprofessional or overstepped or not, that's a verifiable fact. It's losing CM Punk as an on screen performer that absolutely will hurt AEW's deal because he was the biggest draw and the biggest name in the company, whether you see him as a babyface or heel. Whether you watched or hate-watched, he made AEW more compelling. I'm not saying they Tony shouldn't have done something when Phill Brooks stepped up to Jack Perry. But within the context of what happened, you don't fire Hulk Hogan in 1995 from WCW for something like that. You'd fire the guy who talked back to him, even if Hulk was in the wrong. Why? Because it's a business, not a playground. I was never a fan of Terry Bollea. His heel persona was mildly better, but I hated him as a babyface. But if WCW had fired him over things like that, I would have thought they'd lost their minds. The fact that Hulk was in WWF in the early 90s meant that I got to see Bret Hart, Curt Hennig and the other guys I enjoyed watching on a large scale. When he went to WCW and Nitro was launched, suddenly WCW was available on Canadian TV Monday nights, on tape delay right after Raw. The Wars don't happen if Hulk isn't involved. I understood that as a teenager, even if I hated the guy, on and off screen. If you fired Hulk Hogan in 1995, even when he was probably at his lowest point in popularity and getting booed by some WCW and old NWA fans, you would have been stupid. Same thing here. Obviously the business is no where near as popular, so comparing Hulk Hogan to CM Punk in terms of popularity is ridiculous. But their impact on wrestling, given the nature of the business today, is similar. CM Punk is the biggest active name in wrestling right now. More people outside of wrestling know who he is than anyone else.

I also think that airing the footage annoyed and put off many fans of AEW since it was seen as tacky and didn't add or reveal anything that would make the promotion or Tony Khan look good. I do hope that AEW can turn it around though.

They wanted to believe that Punk was this crazy liar, and while it's not great that he nabbed Jungle Boy, it was tacky and proved that everybody else lied. Tony saying he was afraid for his life at his own show because Pepsi Phil looked at him angrily and said "this is a joke and I fucking quit, you're a fucking clown" is so embarrassing
@bryan-still-a-poker-player
@bryan-still-a-poker-player 3 ай бұрын
It was so dumb to air that footage. In AEW people get left beaten and bloody in the back as normal parts of tv. Then they fire punk for something he did backstage that made Tony fear for his life. Must have been CRAZY whatever Punk did. Then they air it...and it's literally nothing. I would bet 95%+ of their audience had seen worse fights in HS or middle school. Hell I got beat up worse than that in 5th grade lol

@@zomb60 They can condense the KZbin stuff for the casual fans. Casual fans probably only need 30 seconds to a minute to get caught up. But it's always the hardcore fans that bring those fans along for the ride. BTW: How come wrestlers don't react to each other's promos? That's an easy way to stretch out content because you have the promo, and then the reaction. It's a 2 for 1 as far as budgeting.

that was the only thing that sucked about punks interview with Helwani. he exposed how poorly run that company is. i think aew is a great thing and i feel like they put on some decent shows 80% of the time. but when a guy like Punk says aew will only be around if Tony will spend money on it, a ton of people hear that and will run with the narrative that aew is going on a downward spiral, even if they never watch aew.

Storylines are very unsubstantial, and when they are substantial, they're about the most trivial of matters like Alpha Academy. Like Sami Zayn's the champion yet why does he care so much about Otis, Tozawa, and Maxxine? Liv giving Dominik a key to her hotel room and then later interfering in his match, as if the segment were out of order. Cole calling a wrestler by the wrong name for nearly a minute. The ref flatout seeing interference during the Iyo/Lyra match. Otis jiggling his thighs while the camera only filmed him from the waist up. Damage CTRL fleeing from two small women. Bianca & Jade Cargill getting backstage segments and a long entrance only for them to do nothing. All the Scottish wrestlers getting a match at the upcoming PLE while at the same time nothing happens to make them legitimate threats.
