This must be Harley heaven. Wow, I’m stuck,over her on the left coast and wish I live close to Nicks Customs, what a honey hole, parts for days..I’m an older rider stuck in the 50s, owned just about all the Harley legends. My first Harley as a kid was a WLA 1945, still in the military crate. Rode that bike most of my high school days painted it up from the Army O.D. To a gloss black. Added some chrome stuff and a custom exhaust. Later in bought a 1963 pan, from a police auction. Rode that jewel till I got the letter from the draft board. Got home 3 years later, dusted my old pan off put new tires on it,gave it a good tune and I was off for a year seeing the world and emptying my head from the political war called Vietnam. The politicians got richer off the backs of the veterans who had to serve in that hell hole. My grand dad always told me there ain’t no Harley’s parked in front of a Physics office. I proved that to be true. My old pan helped me escape the heat of combat withdraws. Combat vets know what I’m talking about. Best Harley I’ve own. Never left me walking. But I’ve owned others, I’m addicted to my Harleys. Wouldn’t own any new one. Stay with the stuff I can ride and fix. Not the new computer on two wheels. See ya down the road,thanks for your video. You got a sharp looking pan head. Don’t sell it!

Last winter, when I was working second shift, if there wasn’t any snow or ice on the roads, I’d ride to work. In the afternoon it wasn’t bad, put on an insulated leather jacket and a decent set of gloves, the highway was no issue. But getting off at midnight, I’d take surface streets. Temps would be in the upper 20’s and even with the fairing my fingers would go numb. But I could honestly say I rode most all winter. This year, I’m on first shift and leaving the house at 5:45 am, that’s near the coldest part of the day and I just haven’t found the testicular fortitude to ride. I also found that the morning commute has way more idiots on the roads that the afternoon did. Maybe Santa will put a set of heated gloves in my stocking? Turning 62 and riding an 800+ lbs Electra Glide in near zero wind chill….its brought out the battle of wills in me. Part of me says fuck that, the other part says fuck the cold…ride. Gotta love Kansas winters. Little snow, but the winds are straight from the coldest corner of hell. Ride as long as you can, but keep your head about the traction or lack there of. Be safe.
@thejerseyj54799 күн бұрын
Kansas gets the wind straight down from the Arctic with nothing along the way to slow it down. Been through there many times when I was OTR. My last road trip I went to see Big Brutus in West Mineral. WOW that machine is incredible.

How did you learn to wrench? School or just doing it growing up?
@SlickHeadCustomCycles9 күн бұрын
Well the short answer is self taught. And your right it started when growing up as a kid, with the simplest form of wrenching, removing parts and adding parts to my bmx and freestyle bicycles!! Then along came cars, couldn’t always afford to have a mechanic fix stuff, had to fix things myself. Then came working for a living, as a teenager took apart carnival rides and reassembling them at the next carnival location, you were shown the ropes from the older guys!! Also starting at 18yrs since i didn’t go to college, landed a job at a industrial pump company, where eventually I ran the paint shop department where we would disassemble and reassemble the different size diesel engines and pumpends for painting. After i 10 years of that decided to go to a tech school at night to learn heating/air conditioning and refrigeration wich was needed to begin my 22yr career so far as of now as a commercial HVAC and refrigeration service technician, when the big buildings and businesses hvac equipment breaks down, im sent to fix it. I also had to go through a 5yr apprenticeship schooling to work in the union im apart of. With that being said all those years of schooling, they teach you theory, they don’t teach you how to “wrench” that happens out in the field as you go along and screw things up from time to time. NOW, I didn’t mention all that time, since 19yrs of age I’ve owned motorcycles, being broke as I’ve mentioned before, i had to teach myself to work on my own motorcycles, because mechanics are expensive, and a service manual walking you through it step by step is cheap!!! So I’ve been wrenching on my bikes 30+ years now, i know my way around a motorcycle pretty confidently, but i still don’t know everything and I’m still learning every day. That holds true with my day job as well. When I come across equipment, I’ve never seen before, I gotta figure it out and learn how to fix it. So the moral of the story is, if you have a basic understanding on how tools work and how mechanical things sorta work and you can read a book, “the service manual” you can fix anything. All the super guru expert pro mechanics out there- they were just like us at one point they had to read a book and apply themselves, It’s just that simple. Oh and on a side note i also put my self through welding classes at night for 2yrs just for my own knowledge so i could weld on my own projects!! I also bought a table top mill and bench top lathe and have been teaching myself to use those to make parts, did alot of reading and watching videos on machining, plus my younger brother is a machinist, and he’s given me lessons. I’m sorry this went so long and I rambled on and on, but I hope you got the answers out of that you were looking for!! Also for context I’m 50 years old now!! 👍🍺 SLICK

@SlickHeadCustomCycles cool dude. I was a commercial havac installer in my early twenties to thirties. Went to school for blue print reading and sheet metal prefab. For the last 10 years, I have been a mental health worker. I'm currently dismantling my 09 ultra to prep for paint. Grew up around bikes, but never owned one until this year. Wish me luck. The service manual was the first thing I bought. It's come in handy with my project.

I've got a question for anyone, that might remember. When, or what generation, would start their Kickstart , standing, on the right side of the bike, and kick, with left leg. I'm in my '70's.🤔
@SlickHeadCustomCycles8 күн бұрын
Well for one maybe if you understood and you’ve watched my channel, you would know that I broke my right ankle and ruptured my Achilles tendon kickstarting one of my other Antique Bikes, couldn’t walk on it for a whole year. I’m finally back to kicking again so I have to use my left leg. What does it matter to you how I start my bikes, I’ll do it with one hand, that would probably bother you too!!!

OK then 😂😂 I have to back up on my response to you cause I told you there was no 69 Panhead that it was probably a 69 shovelhead but never mind now!!! 😂😂

Is that Panhead an original bike? The chrome and other parts are awfully clean. Which of course there’s absolutely nothing wrong if this is a built bike to mirror that year Panhead. I’m only wondering if it’s a built bike or somewhat original.
@SlickHeadCustomCyclesКүн бұрын
It’s mainly all original-engine, frame tins,saddlebags,grips, pretty much all of it- even the doo dads and ginger bread too!! all the guide lights are original, and obviously it has been a completely restored and repainted to get her so pretty!! And to make this easier I have a video I did specifically on this 58 Panhead and I talk all about what’s original and what’s not, so go back a few videos ago like two months ago and you’ll find it. I think it’s called “talking Panheads” 👍🍺 SLICK

I hate those cross walks when I am on the bike , you are always looking at a lot of stuff , I always looking in my rear view mirrors , looking at side streets , but those dam crosswalks people shoot out like people are automatically gonna stop when I was growing up we waited to everything was cleared then crossed, but these people think they’re fucking yellow line and that little stop sign is gonna protect them

@SlickHeadCustomCycles7 күн бұрын
You know T-bone a little fun fact back in 2011 when I Bought My Road King classic and I ride it home- that was the only time the windshield was ever on that road king!! I took it off the moment I got home and it’s never been back on in 14 years. 👍🍺

@tld522 if my road king had stock handlebars on it hell yeah sure i’d put it on in the winter time but with my ape hangers my 20 inch apes- and I have them pushed slightly forward. The windshield won’t fit on there anymore.

How in the world would you get a bike out of there?
@SlickHeadCustomCycles7 күн бұрын
Even though it’s on the second floor, that museum, it has cargo doors like barn doors that swing open wide, and I think they have an electric lift elevator outside for it or they just use a forklift to lift things in and out of there!!!

I told my wife I was watching pan head porn and she said what so I had to show her and it got a laugh .I bought a little battery operated pump from HF and it works great.The windshield makes it look old school and a good look.i was there about thirty or thirty five years ago and he still looks the same and I wonder if he still has the bikes in the crates in the trailers in the back.
@SlickHeadCustomCycles9 күн бұрын
Well, now I can die happy Richard the fact that I made your wife laugh tonight while you were watching my video put a big smile on my face!!! So cool. Yeah, I know you could just get an electric pump from harbor freight, I have those, and put it in the gas can itself, but I still think I’m gonna get that gas caddy and then put an electric pump on it!! Thanks for watching Richard, im glad you enjoyed it. 👍🍺
