As a Veteran I also went to Fort Jackson then Fort Lee in 2004. It was the worst time of war going on. When you're in an infantry unit most likely you're going to war. My duty station was Fort Carson, Colorado which had been deployed and miraculously my last training before meeting up blew my knee cap, and shattered bones, and cartilage. I'm a 100% Veteran but I think about the what if's a lot. I also Thank God because my two brothers made it back home safely also in 2005. We would've been like the "Saving Private Ryan" 3 brothers had I gotten deployed. I love hearing his story and it gives me some closure on the what if's I was having and just count it as my blessing.

I grew up going to church at times with Michael & his brother Matthew. I went to the same church as his maternal grandparents. Talented is an understatement for their entire family. Their whole family was full of ridiculously talented musicians. This always shocked me because my family had ZERO musical talent. lol Was proud to call him & his brother friends. Great kids! Good times. They always treated my mother, my brother & myself like family. When I tell you seeing him preform as a kid & teen was like going to a concert its an understatement. At 40 years old I still have yet to hear ANYBODY close to as good as Michael live. It was mind blowing. A little hole in the wall church in the southeast suburbs of Cleveland would routinely be left speechless by this man's incredible gift & talent. Glad my old friend is doing so well & wish him & his family ALL the success in the world.

Hey, this was my unit! 1st AD, 1/36IN out of Germany, we got involuntarily extended to 15 months on the first tour, then like he said, we turned around and did another 12 month deployment, which we were involuntarily extended again to 15 months. Our company left Jan 2006 ,got back March 2007. Unless another unit got screwed like this too, with back to back 15 month tours. I know this guy, just can't place him.
