I met Trip and Malcom at the 50th Anniversary convention at Birmingham in 2016. I had a great chat with them out on the floor. They both, especially Trip, expressed disappointment at the ending of Enterprise. I sincerely hope he makes it back into the Star Trek fold. He and Malcom. Been with them all since 66 ❤ 🖖

IMHO: Here's a simpler answer to Trip being alive... Holodeck programs are authored, and all author's tend to "Dramatize" and/or "Fictionalized" an event. Trip was injured the author turned the injury that Trip recovered from into Trip's death for dramatic effect. Short sweet - done... How to introduce into canon... Riker: "Hey Deanna, you know that holodeck program I ran years ago about the NX-01... it was wrong. Trip never died in real life." Troi: :"Interesting..." Riker: "Yeah, the guy who wrote the program added the death for dramatic effect." Troi: "Well that was dumb."

In Star Trek it's a tradition for a character in the previous show to pass the torch. We had bones appear in TNG talking to Data, then TNG handed off to DS9 with Picard and Sisko. Voyager left DS9 in it's pilot, then finally we had Zefram Cochrane from First Contact pass the torch to Archer and the NX-01 by breaking ground on the warp 5 program. Then, since 2009, they've been using characters to literally pass on to younger recasting's of themselves (Spock to Quinto's rehash of Spock), and in Discovery it again passed the torch on to a recasting of Pike, who was the second recasting of Pike, along with a recasting of all the TOS characters, and even Kahn. If you run the numbers and simulations, as well as taking into account the finer details, you can just about make out 2009 as the point in which nebulous brains entered the franchise with not an original thought between any of them.

Of course he didn't die. The series ended with "Terra Prime". The abomination that was "These are the voyages" was merely a holo simulation, nothing more. No, in my head canon he's happily retired on Vulcan, together with T'Pol in her ancestral home. Surrounded by lots and lots of (grand)kids.
@CrazyManwich
@CrazyManwich 3 ай бұрын
He joined section 31 and that holoprogram was just to maintain the illusion he died.
@damouze
@damouze 3 ай бұрын
@@CrazyManwich I'm afraid that doesn't work for me. It would be waaaay out of character for Trip to join section 31. I remember watching the episode when it first aired and thinking, "no he would never do this". And I stand by that today. I reject "These as the voyages" as being a true Enterprise episode, let alone canon. And I was not the only one who was very angry with the showrunners. Thousands of fans were, because not only was it basically a holodeck novel framed as a TNG episode, more importantly, it seemed to suggest that the ENTIRE SERIES was just a holonovel and with it invalidate the entire series.
@darongw
@darongw 3 ай бұрын
@@damouze In the books he doesn't really join section 31, but instead goes on missions to undermine the Romulans to help Earth win the war. He later works to try to end section 31 and it is strongly hinted that he does settle down with T'Pol and the two of them have kids. This part is told from the perspective of a journalist who visits T'Pol and sees a human working on her property but who later sits down for a meal with T'Pol and her kids. The journalist notices the kids kind of have human features and they seem like a family. It seems like he wasn't fully successful in ending section 31 but at least brought down a part of it and did get to retire with T'Pol but had to hide is identity. All in all not a bad way to end his story arch and it's the one I hold to in my head cannon :) This is similar to the story of Bashir in the section 31 novels who "joins" them to help the Federation but also works to end section 31.
@damouze
@damouze 3 ай бұрын
@@darongw To me it still sounds out of character for someone like Trip, especially with what all that he went through, which is why I can't accept it as canon. Moreover, as this is in the books, it would not be Alpha canon but Beta canon, since books and comics are not included in the list of media that are considered Alpha canon. Also, while Section 31 as a mysterious rogue organization sounds fascinating, it would probably be best for it to remain that way. In many ways it is similar to Bureau 13 in B5, which is where the writer of the DS9 episode "Inquisition" probably got his inspiration (and there is nothing wrong with that, mind you; a lot of DS9 was inspired by B5 and in many ways it helped both shows to be as popular as they were). So, in the end, nothing changes for me as far as Trip's death is concerned. It is not part of my head canon, nor is him joining Section 31. In my head canon he served with Archer - and the rest of his friends - through the Romulan War and ultimately retired to Vulcan with T'Pol, happily married and living in her ancestral home, surrounded by many, many (grand)kids. Because after all that they went through (and probably went through during the Romulan War), it is what they deserved. Not a senseless death, not a cheap deus ex machine cop-out such as being rescued by Section 31. In all my years of reading and watching sci-fi (not just Star Trek), never have I had such a severe reaction to character's demise in a really bad story as I had with "These are the Voyages...", with the possible exception of the death of Tasha Yar in the TNG episode "Skin of Evil". But that episode, however bad it was, at least served a purpose and had a place in the larger story. It did not invalidate everything that came before it. And while she was ultimately brought back for a single episode, at least that episode, "Yesterday's Enterprise" stood out as one of the best episodes of the entire series because it set events in motion for a future story.

@darongw
@darongw 3 ай бұрын
I actually like it a lot and I thought it really fit the show though I get that it wasn't a traditional Trek intro. But the meaning behind the words combined with Trek history was very impactful to me. Enterprise is set in the moment where humans are just going out into the broader galaxy soon after they had finally united which took a while after the Vulcans arrived. And before that human civilization was almost destroyed in WW3. The song seemed to speak to that history and the hopeful future that Star Trek is supposed to represent. And the later Strange New Worlds saying "to the stars through hardship" also played on that same theme. So yeah, I get the criticism of it not being a real trek intro but I also appreciate the connection the song has to the history in Star Trek and the moment Enterprise is set in.

I am thinking that right as he is put in the chamber he winks at Captain Archer as a stealth signal that everything is fine.. When the chamber closes he is beamed out and replaced with a clone that when transported into the chamber is deformed to match the pattern buffer scan.. The real Tripp Tucker gets the clones body scan instantly healing him as he materializes elsewhere on a cloaked ship belonging to section 31 or some other secrete group like the temporal agents.. Hasn't anyone ever wondered why with transporter tech and some races like the Vulcans having replicator tech that injuries could be instantly undone from a saved healthy scan of a persons body?? To see him show up in the 32nd century with Daniels or in some other timeline would be great but we can all see the foot dragging on the current spin offs so who knows..

I refuse to accept that TATVs is cannon. It's a forgotten TNG episode where Riker messed around on the holodeck and manipulated the story so the loyal friend could come out as the self sacrificing hero. ENT ended with Terra Prime which was a fantastic episode for all the cast and despite the tragic outcome for Elizabeth it ultimately ended with a message of hope.

A more interesting theory would be that The Guardian Sphere Builders with No Name and exist out of time failed to change the universe to enter. But what if, they figured out how to use humanoids as vessels. The Borg queen looks an awful lot like that head guardian. So they figured they needed to wipe out humanity so became the borg. Once humanoids are gone, they cane carry in their sphere building plan.

This episode could easily be explained away as a case of the Mandela Effect. A lot of people remember seeing Mandela's funeral on TV in the 80's and 90's, when he really died in 2013. It's likely something similar happened with the crew of the Enterprise D, and it wouldn't be hard for the writers of SNW to correct this without breaking from canon.

I agree that canonically, we can say the holoprogram was in error and Trip survived. But I think this notion of faking his death for complicated reasons and invoking the over-used Section 31 is unnecessary nonsense that doesn't help do Trip's character or story any justice. All that is required is a new continuing story for Trip to be written at some point (or not) and his death in a holoprogram to be summarily dismissed and just that, a fictionalized recreation inspired by "historical" events. I really do have a disdain for this convoluted Section 31 idea for Trip; best forgotten along with his supposed death in the first place.

If certain fact from books or comic would be mentioned by character in TV show or movie, then it will be considered canon.
